    Hi Capt... Nice quick explanation! Yes, agree on how important these anodes are. (sometimes us oldies call them 'zincs', because they used to me made primarily with zinc; now I think they are an aluminum/zinc hybrid/alloy?). I also just ordered the engines 'internal' anodes; in the 300 Yamaha there are eight (yes EIGHT!) of the 'internal' engine anodes, and I've just found out that there are 3 more other than those eight. I think Yamaha is making sure their engines don't corrode and self-destruct like some of the older Yamaha's did! ☺

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes Andrew Dost internal anodes in my engine I will change him after 200 hours because they don't wear as much as the exterior ones and yes this about eight of them and that will be a job to do it's just time consuming but that one is just as important but I believe it doesn't wear up as much as the exterior one and thanks for your comment Captain have a awesome Sunday

I use mercury marines 2 4 c grease it’s water proof grease won’t wash out like regular grease my neighbor showed it to me 40 yrs ago but don’t use it on your zinks you want to keep the connection clean between the zinks and motor mounting holes you can buy a grease gun that uses the 8 oz squeeze tube works great on grease fittings aka zerk fittings tilt tube fittings and cowlings fittings and pivot tube fittings thanks JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🌴🐟🎣🛥🌴⛱😊😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

The rectangle one near the engine mount - corrodes from the static electricity created by the two different "metals" of the engine and the mount on the boat via vibration and water flow. Swimming pool motors usually require a "Sacrificial Anode" as well ( in the form of a Zinc ball that is placed in the leaf basket in front of the impeller.
