When I was a child around 8 years old in 1965 in Canada, I received a clockwork train for Christmas. This included a 4 wheeled locomotive painted in Royal Green with black details and yellow pinstriping. It was made completely of painted sheet steel. Very beautiful, as I recall. And it had a large clockwork key. Also a set of track about 1-1/2 inches wide, as I recall. And two coaches, painted green, yellow and black. My sister and I had so much fun with this trainset, giving Barbie and GI-Joe rides on the train. And creating imaginary worlds with plastic cows, pigs and horses at the side of the track :-)
I love the national railway museum. It is such a great place! I have been there quite a few times, I think around 12 times. It never gets old. Great video as always!
Hi! Sam, well thanks for a great video. It was really nice to see the different regional trains running. All the beautiful locos all played a great part in the railways history, and it's always great to see them remembered. The nephews are going to love this video, so once again Sam, a very big thank you.
Another wonderful running session Same, and thanks to your expert skills, every one of these different locos from different manufacturers running perfectly, and a joy to watch...Regards...Bob
Thanks so much Bob - yeah it's a lot of work keeping everything maintained, but I thoroughly enjoy it, and it's well worth it! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Oh just seeing mallard on the turntable inside the shed of the national railway museum gives me goosebumps. She looks so beautiful in that LNER Gresley blue
I would bite off my own big toe if it meant i could visit this museum!! I've never seen a steam locomotive in person, let alone such magnificent machines as these ❤
That photo is pretty cool, its from the A4 reunion, notice the 6 A4s, 2 (dominion of Canada and Dwight D. Eisenhower) are in north america and the other 3 run on the mainline (Bittern, Union of South Africa, and Sir Nigel Gresley), which is something that is never going to happen again. So nice to see them all together, but only Mallard really resides in the museum. Really wish they would run it!
Great video Sam! I just love to sit down and relax while watching your running sessions. My favorites in the running session would be the Q1, the Crab, and the Class 55. I know it’s a lot but I can’t choose a favorite! Haha. Keep up the great work Sam!
I took my wife there in 2022, she hates the idea of any sort of museum……but ‘low and behold’ she absolutely loved it there….especially the Mallard…..my favourite has got to be The Duchess of Hamilton……
I went to the national railway museum last year, and I got to see my favorite loco of all time, evening star it was absolutely awesome I also saw mallard and all the other a4s and the duchess of Hamilton and the q1
i went to the NRM when i was 7 and apparently blew their minds, giving them every little detail about Mallard and the speed record haha. would love to go again now 7 years on, i don't have many memories of the place
Great video Sam. I've been to the NRM three times I think, and it's definitely worth it! My favourite locomotive would have to be the Star Class, or the GWR railcar.
I went in October 2019 and I had my picture with the real Stephensons rocket :) I absolutely love trains and locomotives and have been to railways all around Britain. -Oliver-
Great idea, Sam. NRM is a great place to visit. I have been. I could not see everything they had, I could have been there for 2 days. It is also free to get in. Peter Waterman owes a 9F. Great video, Sam. Keep it going, great format.
Great video. It's on my bucket list to see the NRM and to tour York and the midlands. Might have to convince the wife to let me go alone, she is too scared of the plane!
I love the National Railway Museum, one of my favourite places in the country. Definitely saw a lot of locomotives, definitely a lot more than I have ever seen in my life. There is another LMS Crab in the LMS livery, no. 13065 at the East Lancashire Railway near Manchester and the City Of Birmingham is preserved at a Science Museum in Birmingham somewhere. However, my favourite locomotive is GWR City Class, 3440 City Of Truro. The Rocket Replica was built in 1970 or something.
You saying scrapped reminded me. My grandad and his best mate went over to Barry to save 80064 which today runs on the bluebell railway. It was the third engine to leave and be saved. Just thought i would share. Daniel
I’m going there for my Birthday, this summer! I have always wanted to go and my parents have finally agreed to take me! Thanks for the great taster, Sam! :)
I GOT BITTERN WITH 2 TENDERS, I LOVE IT SO MUCH, it runs super smooth as well, I also got a new dcc controller and some Pullman coaches for my tornado train, and some ocean wagons for the 9f, and some Bachmann tankers, and extra track, and the best is the Harry Potter hogwarts express train set from hornby, it’s awesome, Olten hall is my favorite gwr loco
The National Railway Museum really is impressive. I loved it the last time I went there, and I love the collection you had running in this video. I'd say the Star Class is probably my favourite of them all. However, I think Lode Star was actually the 4th of her class. No. 4000 North Star actually takes credit for being the first, or at least I think so. Anyway, fantastic video, Sam. Keep it up!
Fantastic video Sam i have been going to the NRM almost yearly since i was about 5 when i first got into trains. I like the Mallard best but the Duchess of Hamilton is the most beautiful in my opinion. Again great vid Sam well done
Great video been nrm twice however a lot of the Scotsman overhaul/rebuild was carried out by Riley’s at baron street works on the East Lancashire Railway
That’s a wonderful collection there mate, I love it there at the National Railway Museum in York, don’t worry about the wrong names and you haven’t got some of them who is at the NRM York if you know what I mean. Thanks for sharing buddy cheers ... Josh
At the nrm at shildon, they have the oldest running engine in the UK. It is a Furness railway loco of the bury type, it does passenger runs on the track there, I'm going to barrow soon on holiday, the birthplace of Edward, coppernob, and number 20 (the running one).
i am in York and have been to NRM it is great, if you come to York on Mondays there is a guy in the York markets that sells 00 trains and wagons old and almost new ones at great prices , also check out Goji in Goodramgate for a great meal
In Book 35 of The Railway Series, some of the NRM members are shown, Mallard, Duchess of Hamilton, Iron Duke, Green Arrow, a replica of The Rocket, and the honorary member NWR No.1 ex - LBSCR E2(x) "Thomas"
Always like the Mallard, but from your selection today, the one I like best is the railcar. I will be on a train pulled by a real Merchant Navy class on Sunday, 'Clan Line' for me.
Nice vid Sam By the way City of Birmingham has been preserved in the Museum of Science and Industry in Birmingham, but in her final condition without the streamlining. In BR blue if I recall.(Not been there for a few years mind) Fav for me was the Deltic, took me back to my trainspotting days on the ECL at Hadleigh Wood in North London in the late 70's when they were still in service. Idea - A Bluebell Railway session. A great excuse to run Terriers, Adams Radials, the Dukedog, etc!! Jon
Thanks Jon - ooh that's very interesting, I had no idea that one was preserved! Glad you enjoyed the Deltic, and great idea with the Bluebell, I will look into that! :D Cheers, Sam :)
What you may find as well is that a narrow gauge loco was the last steam loco ever built and was for Indonesian sugar plantations if I can remember right

Hi! Sam, well thanks for a great video. It was really nice to see the different regional trains running. That photo is pretty cool, its from the A4 reunion, notice the 6 A4s, 2 (dominion of Canada and Dwight D. So nice to see them all together, but only Mallard really resides in the museum. Really wish they would run it!
Used to visit the nrm so often - it's what got me into model railways

Thanks so much Lewis - mine too, absolutely awesome! Ooh good choice on Truro - she's gorgeous! :D

I've been to the NRM twice. I couldn't quite see Mallard, as I believe it was taking part in 'The Great Goodbye' during my time there.
Ahh sorry to hear that - still it's a great place, with or without Mallard! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
You saying scrapped reminded me. My grandad and his best mate went over to Barry to save 80064 which today runs on the bluebell railway. It was the third engine to leave and be saved. Just thought i would share.

I really like the 9f it’s a great peace of engineering
The Deltic is now in two tone green and has been for quite a few years
At the nrm at shildon, they have the oldest running engine in the UK. It is a Furness railway loco of the bury type, it does passenger runs on the track there, I'm going to barrow soon on holiday, the birthplace of Edward, coppernob, and number 20 (the running one).
Ooh really? I'd love to go and see that one - it sounds fantastic!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I personally feel very lucky as I have been to the NRM about 30 times and I live about 100 miles away

In Book 35 of The Railway Series, some of the NRM members are shown, Mallard, Duchess of Hamilton, Iron Duke, Green Arrow, a replica of The Rocket, and the honorary member NWR No.1 ex - LBSCR E2(x) "Thomas"

Nice vid Sam
By the way City of Birmingham has been preserved in the Museum of Science and Industry in Birmingham, but in her final condition without the streamlining. In BR blue if I recall.(Not been there for a few years mind)
Fav for me was the Deltic, took me back to my trainspotting days on the ECL at Hadleigh Wood in North London in the late 70's when they were still in service.
Cheers,
Sam :)
For my Birthday tomorrow I am getting the Flying Scotsman from Hattons. She is my favorite British steam loco.
Ooh awesome - that's fantastic, hope you enjoy her, and have a very happy birthday!

There's a class 40 at York numbered D200(40122) in br Green
What you may find as well is that a narrow gauge loco was the last steam loco ever built and was for Indonesian sugar plantations if I can remember right
Ahh of course, I bet there are many of those - but again, not built by British railways!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Oops sorry must of misheard you thanks for the reply
