You should do a video testing your drawer slides strength.
I believe you talked about it in scrap bin, but didn’t you say if weight is a concern, just make slides bigger? Love this box, man.
@@todd_halfacre silly place to hide bars of gold anyway lol!
I love that drawer design. So smart!
Hey John, Bought the plans and can't wait to make it once my local lumber yard opens up. One request, would you be able to add a cut list for 5'x5' sheets? For some reason my lumber yard sells 5'x5' birch plywood 30% cheaper per sq. foot than 4'x8'.
I'm surprised John's drill and impact driver are not made out of wood. This guy is unbelievably talented.
LOL! Why not John?
Forgot to use duct tape.
don't forget the table saw :)
@@davidjames7323 I believe his table saw is made of plywood.
I was thinking the same thing. They must call him Mr. Plywood or something. Kind of like that TV commercial where the lady gets carried away wrapping her gifts and ends up wrapping everything in the house, including the dog. Everything in his shop is custom made out of plywood. Obviously very talented.
I’ve watched this before as well as several other toolbox builds and this is by far completely unparalleled! And he makes it with his collection of quality power shop tools which he’s also made! This guy is amazing!
They'll say you make it look easy. I think you make it look like years of experience, [ polished patience & accuracy ] make it look easy. I'm still woefully practising! Beautiful project!
Wow John! Simple in appearance and design is truly the King in diy. This is one of my favorite projects you've built so far, and I have been following along for several years now. I really love this design. My grandfather often said start with the complicated and work towards the simple. And this is clearly well thought out and streamlined. Thanks for sharing and doing what you do.
does anyone else find this mans videos very satisfying to watch? because i sure do! love this channel!!
I do, but damn some times his hands are way to close from the blade.
Nope, you’re an anomaly there.
@@morpheus130586 Experience and being aware take away perceived dangers.
I wish I was just a tenth of a woodcrafter as he is. I'm watching this in awe
@@morpheus130586 Sometimes that has to do with the camera and angle of the shot. Makes it look closer than it actually is.
I make fitted bedrooms for a living (i think you call them closets in the U.S ) with many drawer units, I have to say it's a real pleasure watching you make those drawer units .... a real craftsman at work , well done.
I love the no nonsense just get it done approach....it's why I subscribed several years ago....nice build John
I love watching you practice your craft, John. Thanks for sharing.
He's helping people improve their lives by showing them they can fill a need at a fraction of the cost.
Awesome stuff as always, John. I love that streaky inclusion in the plywood veneer that runs around the outside of the box. Very cool.
Been pencil-ticking metal straight-edge rulers & trying to erase them clean for years. Heard the term _story stick_ many times from finish carpenters but _never_ thought to ask what it was. Didn't realize I was actually making them in a very crude fashion until you commented about using wood with a good edge as one. Had to Pause the video so the headbanging could commence! Talk about a V8 moment! Thank you! That tidbit alone was worth all the time spent with you and Neil! LOL
Wow! Homemade drawer slides! Amazing,
I have been following you for a couple of years now, and I have to tell you that your amazing!!! Keep the great projects coming!!!
Thanks John! Another well made video I appreciate the time you've put in.
Since the onset of the pandemic my free time for YT content has evaporated. I realized after seeing this how much I missed / enjoyed your content. This is a great build.
I don't know that I'm ever going to get the bandwidth to make one, but I'm getting the plans anyway. The build article is awesome as well, and I appreciate the subtlety of your video edits - you continue to get better at this part of your craft as well.
Keep up the great work!
Wow. Impressive design, execution and features. Beautiful work, John.
Thanks John!! Great design and excellent build strategy! You make it look simple but there’s a lot of thought in this design. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful! Congratulations, Sir John!
May God continue to bless you and empower you more and more every day.
Many people here in Brazil are your fans.
It is obvious you have talent and enjoy your work. Your comments and little tid bits told me you can walk the walk! I enjoyed your sharing of this toolbox
Anyone else like the shots of the iron. I found that surprisingly enjoyable.
I built this for my garage rather than buying a 44" steel cabinet from HD/HF. Very happy with the outcome. I did go with traditional slides. It works great. Thanks for the content and plans!
Fantastic build John! Thanks for sharing with us!!
Gorgeous work! Quite inspiring! During quarantine, I redesigned my never-been-touched-since-1961 kitchen on paper. You know the original setup.. clothes washer next to stove, clothes dryer next to fridge in the dining room, no dishwasher, galley kitchen with blank, empty wall at the end. Including the dining room, its 9' by 24'. Oh, and no pantry!
The original few cabinets were stick built in place and rock solid, but not configured well. I can see this as a cab next to the sink or along blank wall. Something to do next lockdown... rubs hands together happily!!!
Edit to add.. also happily a new subscriber!
Beautiful
Thank you, Brad!
I have a pretty decent mechanical aptitude....but after watching this I am now questioning everything.
You make it look so easy. A true mark of a genius and a craftsman. Well done, sir.
WELL DONE! Nice design, good construction methods, and a wonderful video production. Also, thanks for showing us the minor adjustments needed when building any project.
what an amazing workshop youve created
You're a master of making complicated things look simple. Well done!
Thanks John. Very nicely planned and executed!
You are the master of wood ! Another amazing piece of craftsmanship. Well done John
The work ethics, softness of voice, tidy look of workshop, wooden instruments, his appearance - every single thing is decent, impeccable and in a highly professional style. The videography is excellent as well. Simple and easy to do project. 10/10 Johnny.
Very nicely done. Love the simple design for the drawer slides.
Excellent build, John. Your drawer slides are ingenious. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece.
Felix
Phenomenal build John. Another very well done and thought out project.
Thank you John, I always watch your videos with great pleasure. This one is very good with a great project.
this is my 2nd watching of this build. You do a great job on getting all the details perfect. I like this wood slide idea. it looks like it works very well with the drawer movement. Thank you
This looks like our next project. We need a nice toolbox and even if we use quality plywood and hardwoods, it's still less expensive than anything built by Mac Tools or Snap-On. It's more rewarding to build your own anyway. Thank you for the inspiration.
Beautiful and practical piece John. Great job.
Awesome! The drawer slide idea is very smart.
Superbe réalisation ! des procédés remarquables de précision ! j'adore Merci et encore Bravo
There are so many things I like about this video. I'm definitely going to have to get these plans. I enjoy making shop projects and I'm finding myself needing more drawer storage. I'm always putting it off because I don't want to spend the money on drawer slides and hardware. This solves that. I need to make these drawer slides. And those handles look great.
Incredible. Excellent build. Thanks for posting.
Thats was a nice build. Impresive, thank You for showing it.
Awesome. Nice build. Great idea with the handles. I am going to do that to my own workshop cabinet I built that has been waiting for draw fronts for over a year.
What an awesome and affordable storage cart!! Love the drawer slides, because they are so affordable compared to buying the roller ball bearing style.
Great project John! A ton of work made to look easy.
Great job on the toolbox John! Thank you for sharing it with us!💖👍👌😎JP
very nice!!! Great plan and execution John!
Excellent John
I love the old school hand made clamps and tools you have made.
I really like the look of that cabinet, especially the full length drawer pulls.
Great work and proper table saw technique (not always seen on the CZcamss). Love the homemade tools!
Absolutely beautiful work!!
It looks gorgeous! Nice work!
Great video. Cool ideas. Thanks for the tip on installing the drawer fronts.
It is a pleasure and an education to watch you work.
love this. and the casual use of everything else that john built himself
At last we see where the wooden drawer slides went. Also, at 14:33 we get to see a single cameo appearance of your wooden vice grips, excellent on both.
Good one .. Looking forward to the plans.
So amazing to watch a master at his craft.
Nice project, thanks for posting it.
Incredible build. Just awesome!
Very nice and convenient!
A few decades of tips, tricks, and craftsmanship packed into this video 👊
Excelente! Una gran técnica y gran experiencia.gracias por compartir.!
Great stuff, once again, John. Been wanting to make something like this myself.
incredible work, not sure what I am more impressed with the bench or the DIY tooling you have made. Subscribed!
This is a great idea. I was looking a perfect and cool Toolbox and you did it. Thank you.👍
Superb, awesome, wonderfully finely crafted. Or words to that effect... Top work as usual John 👌👏
Bonjour, Superbe réalisation toute en bois, J'AIME BEAUCOUP. Un grand salut de la France.👍👍👍👌
I was going to replace the cheap drawer slides on my workbench with full extension slides and not be happy with the cost... Until I saw this. Thanks for sharing your ingenious ideas. The hot melt glue was a nice touch too.
Awesome build. Really like the drawer mechanics.
I thought the thumbnail had some vertical slat genius, JH invention included. Nah, just plywood pattern. I'm glad I saw that small pic, and wondered what the great idea was.
I finally visited the plans page after 3 years. Thanks, John for all those gifts. a nice collection of fine ideas. Seeing the steps it occurs to me I need that. Thanks for all your effort at YTU. You are one of my favorite Professors.
AMAZING project! I wish I had the skills & tools necessary to build an amazing piece like this!
Awesome project, John. Thanks for sharing! Cheers from BC
Okay I’m ordering the plans to build one. I’ve been thinking of doing this for awhile. Thanks for the fast forward 👍🏼
Really like your home made, plywood, full extension slides! Never seen that done before!
Neither had I, a really good idea. I wish I had known how to do that ten years ago when I was fitting out my workshop.
Just brilliant, John, as usual.
absolutely beautiful work. love your drawer glides.
That is a beautiful piece of workmanship
You make it look easy, a true sign of skill.
That looks amazing!
Always taking things to another level.
Great job! My favorite build of yours
Excellent project and video. Thank you!
I do not work with carbohydrates, with the exception of lock installations. Seriously, awesome video. I most like the various jigs and the router table etc... made from lumber rather than store bought... even the runners for tool cabinet... if one EVER broke, no worries about the manufacturer going out of business or discontinuing that model! NICE job explaining the processes.
I think your wooden drawer slides are the most lovely idea in this project - but there are many others
Your table saw is another lovely build, especially the fence.
I'm so glad I found this channel!
Another fantastic build
One thing you do every time is control the work piece when being cut! Nice work!
You sir are a true craftsman!
Absolutely beautiful John. Almost to good for a workshop.
Very fresh to watch. You're a real pioneer here on CZcams.
Wonderful creation John!
I watch all your videos good stuff man I’m a jiujitsu guy but I been doing wood flooring your 20 years and I just started like 5 years ago making furniture like you and some other guys
Realized while watching this that I don’t think I’ve ever seen you use anything but polyurethane construction adhesive. Must still be warm up there. This project looks great as always. I hope I get the time to try out your wooden slides sometime; I really like how you designed them.
Love the runners. Wish I'd seen this a couple of years back and could have saved myself a lot of money.
Hey, I just bought the plans and am going to build this tomorrow. Thank you for making the plans, the article and the build video available. I'm excited about the drawer slides too, just like everybody else. I always bought the full extension ones before. I'll be glad to learn how to create these ones. If all goes well I'll use this plan to make a whole bank of cabinets of different sizes along one wall of my shop. I think they look great.
How did it go? Any impressions of how they hold weight?
Nice work John, as always.
Thank you for a great video. ❤️
