Important to note that Malcolm X, as a child, had great appreciation for black identity because of his mother, Louise Norton Little who was an immigrant from Grenada. Mrs Little was instrumental in her role as a member of Marcus Garvey's UNIA and raised her children on the importance of knowing their history and honouring their heritage as black people in societies determined to belittle and dehumanize their existence. My grandfather a white muslim from Bosnia than Yugoslavia, made pilgrimage to Mecca with Malcolm X. He spoke highly of him, even though they couldn't understand each other.
I understand Malcolm tried to tell his fellow pilgrims that he knew Mohammed Ali. Because he was not fluent in Arabic, they understood Malcolm to have said that he was Mohammed Ali. Speaking negatively about another race is literally the definition of racism. I won't deny that Malcolm was misunderstood and treated poorly by the government that should have been protecting him. But he was point blank racist. It is what it is.
@@annmariebusu9924 You're naive to think that he was just "lashing out". It was a negative mindset, it was a strong belief. he truly believed that white people were evil, he descriminated them. A person is not merely defined by their race. He thought negatively of ALL white people. Not everyone has those negative traits. I never said he was a bad person or even that his thoughts were wrong. However, I know for a fact that he was racist.
You cant be racist towards the opresor/colonizer... that’s not how it works... racism is more of a behavior and/or thought of a race backed by an structure in society that negatively impacts the minority upon the majority in power.... calling white people devils is odd and offensive because it is not true in al cases, while calling black people the n-word is backed by hundreds of years of slavery, suffering, and shared pain by the whole African diaspora

He wasn't misunderstood. They knew and understood him perfectly but were playing dumb. Also after leaving the Nation of Islam (and convert to true Islam) Malcolm disowned his racist beliefs *whilst* becoming even more driven for the black cause. More African- American people need to learn about this man and his mission. It's evil how his legacy has been twisted and a shame because he was a true, powerful leader for the community.
As someone who's done extensive research, there were a couple things I wish you would have added. His pilgrimage to Mecca, that was when he started to see things differently as he saw many different races getting along. He started changing his outlook and began advocating for all humans to live together peacefully, where as before he completely wanted to separate himself from other races. Also, Malcolm and Martin never got along. After seeing your Martin video, I wonder if those severed ties were similar to Elijah's severed ties. Malcolm and Mohammed Ali were friends up until Malcolm severed ties with NOI.
You must have gotten your information from the Spike Lee movie! Malcolm had been to Mecca and throughout the Middle East in 1959. Why did it take. him so long to have this 'epiphany'? In addition, the knowledge that there are White Muslims is given to the Believers upon acceptance of Islam and upon entering orientation class into the Mosque. Nothing new there!
@@cactusqltr He didn't have this epiphany before because Elijah Muhammad taught black supremacy, not really the Islamic value of no race is greater than the other. Hit those books hard girl, so you can do well in life, but also make sure you are being a critical thinker and seeking the viewpoints of others within each time period you learn about. So many influential and insightful people are purposefully left out of the history books.
in my entire education, he was mentioned ONCE in my apush class and was brushed over to seem like a flawed character even tho I didn't see anything wrong??
I learned about him a little bit in school, but it wasn't on his own. He was always put in comparison to MLK, and he was basically just portrayed as the "anti MLK", really characterized as being the "violent, racist bad guy". He got a tiny footnote, and nothing he really wanted or spoke about was really taught. We were only taught that he was violent.
im 26 years old and finding out about these details now too, im upset as well. he was only mentioned briefly in passing throughout my entire time in public school, community college, and university.
Watching interviews with Malcolm X and hearing his own words changed my mind from what we learned in school. He was bold and honest. I 100% believe the government took him out. They couldn't let a strong leader like him live. I'm not known for being a "Government truster" though.
How sad he knew he was going to die and getting all this threats and nobody did anything about it, Malcom was a human being whos life should have been respected, heartbreaking

He wasn’t afraid to speak on how he really felt and how many blacks felt. MLK tried not to be too aggressive or appear reasonable. The things that Malcolm said could get a black person killed. They both got killed though😐

Speaking of establishing Black equity and infrastructure, I highly recommend looking into Black Wall Street in Tulsa. It's an infuriating, but inspiring story.
A couple of years ago, I came across a comment from someone here on CZcams that had mentioned something about the Wall Street in Tulsa, and the things this person was saying were so heinously vial that I was convinced he had to have been over exaggerating, it was so bad. In the hopes of learning more about what he was talking about, I ended up going down a two day rabbit hole - in complete shock and horror over this part of American history that is by and large very unknown. Mobs of white residents were deputized and given weapons by city officials - and were sent on a mission to destroy wealthy black Americans who had created wealth and fortune for themselves. They attacked, maimed and murdered hoards of wealthy black residents, and it has been called "the single worst incident of racial violence in American history." I don't know why or how, but I find it absolutely unacceptable how many people know very little about this horrific time in our history. The victims of the Tulsa race massacre should never be forgotten. I encourage everyone reading this to learn about what had happened in Tulsa Oklahoma of 1921 (specifically the Greenwood District).
@@KelleyBroussardMackaig yes and then they turn around and say: "see black people are unable to move up in the world". It's not an incident, it's a feature.

This was so interesting and, damn, Malcolm was done dirty as hell! Also, how disturbing that so many within the NOI didn't care that the leader was a flat out child abuser.
That isn't true. The reason Malcolm and the NOI split had nothing to do with Elijah Muhammad's marital life. He had wives. They were not teenagers, and Malcolm knew that. Malcolm also tried his hardest to get back in the NOI before he died. Here's the truth. The government is still using Malcolm as a way to prevent Black organizations from gaining traction and support. While he was alive, they slandered him, calling him a hater and an extremist and violent to try to prevent people from listening to him. Now that he's dead, they turn him into an American hero and now say the exact same things about the NOI that they said about him, and portray him as a great guy who heroically turned away from this big bad organization and their terrible leader. But that's not true, and everything he taught *was* the teachings of the NOI. The stances he took and the things he said all came from Elijah Muhammad, just as the NOI today does. If you're interested, I can point you to the receipts, I'm not just talking out of my ear.

Reading these comments about how schools taught certain things about Malcolm is shocking, because I when I was in school we learned, pretty much, all this about him and our teachers left it up to us to figure out which one (him or MLK) spoke more to you personally. We legit went in depth learning about their activist styles...and I was in school in the early 90s.
I grew up in Pennsylvania, I was told Malcolm was a racist. I ate it up and it makes me sick to this day. I don't believe in racism (at least in the broader definition) against white people in the US, since racism is a system. I believe in bigotry and prejudice that does exist and is prevalent. With that being said the framing was extremely disingenuous. They knew there was power in his words. He had seen his community be harmed by white people and treated them as they treated him. MLK tried to play nice but was treated as garbage. It shows you that respectability only goes so far. Malcolm was anti-facist and just wanted better for the black community and that's rad.
Wrong! Like those who think Malcolm read the dictionary and came out brilliant is so far wrong! The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught Malcolm everything he knew! That is why when Malcolm left the Nation, within the year, he was trying to come back!

But yes, he changed his views after Mecca because he was astonished as to how all of these races got so along and didn't despise each other like in America.

He was also a respected man and friends with senator Cory Booker.
I watched that it was really good
It was so good but so frustrating because there will never be justice.
Dominique God will deliver His justice. We have to have faith that the gunman will pay and that Malcolm is soaking up all the peace and happiness in the Hereafter.
I did watch a movie some years ago and in the movie he was killed and it was just like you said. There was something about him that broke my heart, I didn’t think he looked angry I felt like he was sad, depressed. I am so sorry his life was so difficult. I cried at the end of the movie and for a long time I would think about him, life can be so unfair. On a lighter note you have beautiful eyes!!
Alex Haley's Malcolm X biography is really good.
@@melaniekeeling7462 It is the AUTOBIOGRAPHY, not the biography. BIG DIFFERENCE.
@@Imissyoulou Sorry, should have googled. I did doubt.
I can relate to Malcom. Always preferred him he was much radical but everything he said was true.
Love the green, you are spot on with you debreifing. I am actually a relative of Malcolm Little. His father and my Grandfather were cousins, I believe that's the relation any ways I am his third cousin and the comparisons are uncanny i actually have a few comparisons photos its creepy seeing him any where really cause all I see is my father and at times my self. Our speech pattern is even similar. He was a great charismatic man but if you read some of his speeches you will notice he can go off on tangents, which apparently is genetic. I was told about our heritage when I was young but as a kid I didn't care much, as I got older I started to dig and find more . My father and I dont get along but its very sobering to see a piece of me and my family depicted through him. From mannerisms to personality. So thank you for doing this video Cydnee
Malcolm X's wife Betty Shabazz taught at my school! Medgar Evers College!
Wow 😳 so cool
This video solidified my love for Malcolm X. He was truly an inspiration
I think it should be noted that Malcolm was basically illiterate when he went to prison but came out a great orator and well educated
Yep 👍❤️
Never exoect your colonizers to educate you
Wrong! Like those who think Malcolm read the dictionary and came out brilliant is so far wrong! The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught Malcolm everything he knew! That is why when Malcolm left the Nation, within the year, he was trying to come back!
"it's always hoover's bitchass" lmaoooo
i am in looooove with this series!! the way you explain things and make it fun is so entertaining to me. keep it up!!
