My sister’s and I visited that memorial years ago. It is beautiful maintained and well thought out. Each section tells the story of the soldiers from their town and how they died. Well worth your time.
I did this last fall. I'm disabled. My friend brought me and was going to try to wheel me. As we pulled into the parking area a group of Christian motorcycle group veterans pulled in near us. They offered to wheel me around so my friend did not have to. God sent them just as we needed them. I so appreciated their willingness to push me around. I'm not lightweight. But this Christian veterans group saw a need and took over. Most of them were from Vietnam. This group that wasn't welcomed home. So it was nice for me again to say thank you for your service. I know you didn't get a thank you when you came home but I thank you. Just a nice a group of people I had not met before. But I hardily recommend touring the D-Day memorial. And read the plaques. The volunteers that take the groups were Just awesome and a blessing.
While I understand why the Generals have specific statues, I don't agree with it. The generals weren't fighting on the front lines. They never had to put their neck out. The thousands of average men did. I really don't think we should idolize specific generals when thousands of people died because of their direction.
My friend Rudolf Ellis was the only one of 5 or 6 brothers to return home from WW2 . They all served with the 29th . Love you Rudi !
