  • I'm sharing with you how I design my labels using Canva. This is a very beginner type tutorial. This is for simple print and cut labels (not labels that you would then import into Online Labels or Avery to print on pre-cut circles).

    Loved the video! I have just started using Canva and there are so many possibilities. And so much to learn. I currently use cigar band labels that I created in Word, but it was tedious getting them all the same size. I find that sometimes the alignment is off when I'm wrapping soaps that have cured longer, so am continually adjusting my template. I'm excited to try them on Canva to see if they work better.

    Can I just take a moment and say “WOW!!??” This was the Easiest tutorial to follow ever!!! I’ve watched quite a few that made me want to give up but you nailed it. Thank you. I did have one question, on Canva pro in elements there’s something called Grid (looks like a landscape and some have lines) have you tried using that for duplicates? Or is it easier to just duplicate from each label on the page? Thank you in advance 😇

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před rokem

      oh my goodness Laketa! That is so kind of you. I really appreciate your comment. I'm by no means and expert or anything on Canva. but I also think some of them give a little too much info that I don't need or want.
      The frames and grids give me so much grief! The problem I have is that I can't adjust the scale of in image with a frame so rarely use them. sometimes for circles I will. I thought about doing a tutorial on them actually but need to study up so I know more how to get the most out of them. I have used the Grids for some of my social media banners though and that was somewhat helpful LOL

    Thank you so much for this video it has helped me so much. I created a label tonight in Canva following your steps. One thing I did first was to fold piece of printer paper around the soap and actually measure the sides front and back. In Canva there is an option to put on the grid lines and rulers under file and setting. That option helped me distance my images on the label as compared to my measurements. I still had to print and resize some.

    You can make the border thinner. Use the corner handle to make the square small. Then use the top/bottom/side handles to get it back to the size you want… with a now thinner border. Same for a thicker border- use corner to enlarge and reduce with side handles.

      oh I'm sorry you are having problems! I'm curious, are you changing the color of your box when you are adding it to your design? I always have to change mine to white and then lower the transparency. It always initially adds the box in a bright pink LOL

  • @backwoodsbushcraft2633

    Great video tutorial. I looked at canva briefing. Maybe I need to take a 2nd look. Are you able to save an entire sheet 8.5×11 of say lavender with the 5 bands for later to reprint? Or you making them every time you need lavender?
    I also use cardstock for my soap bands. I use a cutter from Amazon, Firbon makes it. Much easier than scissors.
    Thank you Tammy! !

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 2 lety

      Yes! I print this out on either an 8.5 x 11 sheet of card stock or printer paper and then cut them out by hand - I save them to my google drive so I can reprint them in the one sheet as needed. I'm going to try to tape my Online Labels tut tomorrow and can add this step to that. (thanks)
      also - I was just talking about getting a new cutter. Do you like the Firbon? I think I am going to have a dedicated one for cardstock as the sticker paper is always gunking up my cutter wheel...but then I would have to store two and that thought makes me cringe LOL

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 8 měsíci

      They have labels that work for both - when you are searching for labels, just make sure you buy the ones that match you printer. I will never go back to inkjet due to the quantity of labels I print. I get generic color from Amazon - name brand Xerox is way too expensive LOL Still the generic is $60 I think but it lasts me about 9-12 months

    I too do cigar band type labels for my soaps and they are a pain and get loose, which drive me crazy, sometimes I feel like I waste more paper just keeping them tight. I cut each and every one by hand. I’m trying to think of a better way. So is canva paid version better?

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 2 lety +1

      I agree with the cigar bands. I cut out my little rant about them for time sakes, but I tried to switch to bio film shrink wrap... my customers hated it. I too cut them by hand, it is such a pain lol. I started to try not wrapping until I think I am really close to selling.
      I think paid version is better if you are using it to transfer to Online Labels or something along those lines. Plus the folders are so helpful and you don't get that organization with the free version.

  • @backwoodsbushcraft2633

    Hi Tammy,
    I was messing around with canva after watching your video. In your video you picked the square element to get started with your label. Your square element has the Grey border how do you get a border or remove it? Mine doesn't appear. I also noticed shutting off the button above the print on the print screen that says let the app change settings stops it from defaulting back to landscape.
    Thanks for any advice

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh my gosh you just saved me sooo many clicks!! Thanks for that tip!
      As far as the border, I just use the boarder element, they have some with "shadows" that give them a different look. also, I feel the boarder is too thick sometimes, so I will put a white box inside it and size it so the border is the size I want, then I can group them into one element.
      I hope I am understanding your question, if not feel free to ask again!

    Tammy, try using mm instead of inches. I use mm and I don't remember seeing the imprecision you showed at minute 5.
    I love your channel, specially the business videos!

      Thanks for the tip Liana! This is wonderful! I resized one of my round labels and it is much easier to get the right size! I just have to have google open in another tab with the "how many mm in an inch" calculator 😂😂😂 Thank you for your sweet words as well💖

    how and what do i use to make my own logo?

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 7 dny

      you can make you logo on Canva, at least that is what I would do as I like canve. But I did hire a graphic designer to create my logo and business cards for me. I then was able to take it and create all of my other materials (labels, table skirts and so on)
      There may be sites to help you create it too, I just am not aware of them.
      Good Luck - I know it can be daunting!

    Ugh. My square doesn't have a border and I can't see where I go to create one

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před rokem +1

      I think they used to have a better way of adding a boarder - I just looked and your right, it isn't easily found. How I was able to add a boarder (and still manipulate it to the size I want) is add a shape. This gives you the ability to make it as long and wide as you want it. Once you have the you can duplicate it. Make the duplicate white. Then take the corner radius and make it a touch smaller. Click the position tab and center the two both middle and center. Adjust the white box until you have the boarder the thickness you want. I'm sure there must be an easier way to do this but this is a workaround that I have been able to come up with. - Good Luck!!

    How many labels will it print on one sheet?

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 2 lety

      If you are talking cigar bands, I get 6 per sheet. I used to get 5 but I wanted to not only have more labels per sheet but not take up so much space on my soap - so I made them shorter in height. Hope that helps!

      oh shoot, I'm sorry you are having problems - I am here to help if you need me. I can do specific videos on what exactly you are looking for
      or I can do a live video of how to use Canva so you can ask questions
      I'm looking for more live video ideas and this might be a good one - IF it is product label or social media related Canva use. Anything else is not my strong suit LOL

    I liked this. I'm still wrapping soaps with shrink wrap, the good kind, lol! I have thought of changing as pepple like all natural wrapping. I do use Online Labels. I was thinking of wrapping my soaps on paper and putting my label over it. You can't see through paper though and I still do summer markets. Of coarse I could go naked bars at market, but to much touching for my taste or leave one sample bar out. This is why I shrink wrap. My bars will not fit in any box I've seen! My bars are 4X2X11/2 inches and weigh 6-7 ounces. Yeah, their huge! My customers seem to love those honking big bars, lol! I charge 10$ for my fragranced bars. For my natural bars I make them in a standard Bramble Berry 5# mold and cut them at 1 inch. They fit in boxes! Yeah! I wish soap box companies would offer bigger boxes. I'd consider going down to 11/4 inch wide, but no smaller. I want my customers to know they are getting a great deal! I compete directly with Buff City Soaps. Their bars are small and they charge 8$, I think. Their bars weigh 4.5 to 5 ounces. I hate having to compete with them, all people who have used Buff bars say they are drying to the skin. Mine are not and that's where I win. I use oatmeal, clay, silk fibers, coconut milk/cream, shea and cocoa butter. They basically don't! That's why their bars are drying! Wow! I got off topic! I'm crazy because the ice/snow storm knocked out power for 8 hours today! Im in internet withdrawl, lol!
    Tammy, this was a great stab at doing labels and kicking out ideas. Your going to have to do product labels next, lol! Soaps are the easier ones. Why don't you use Online Labels, just curious?

      Hey there Jill! I tried to go the bio film shrink wrap rout and my customers hated it - vehemently LOL, that's what I meant when I said I was listening to my customers (I cut out a bit of my rant about it because 1) time sakes, and 2) totally off topic LOL. So I'm back with the cigar bands and hating them. I've only recently heard of Buff City, they aren't around here that I know of (yet). Your bars are BIG and they sound AMAZING! I have some silk that I keep forgetting to use, I used it a couple of times years ago and haven't since. I want to see the difference. You have inspired me to give it another go! 💖. I've also never used oatmeal in my soaps...I've seen it done (Ellen Ruth) but haven't tried it. I just did a series on inspired soaps a couple of weeks ago (probably up here in a few weeks) Can I add an inspired by you soap to my video series? I would love to do that! I could even send people to your website if you have one!!
      We got a lot of snow this week too (finally!) now I'm over it LOL, didn't loose power tho.
      I do you Online Labels! Well I print from Maestro but I really hate the program for creating labels. It's been awhile since I've tried but I remember not liking a thing about the capabilities.
      Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!💖
