- In this video I present some of my Sam Records releases (Chet Baker, Donald Byrd, Nathan Davis etc.). I also visit Sam Records' shop in Paris to have an interview with the founder and owner, Fred Thomas (May 2022).

Sam Records are some of my most prized LPs. I have most of them and I have yet to be disappointed by any of them. Actually, I find them to be amazing. If you are unfamiliar with them, do yourself a favor and pick one up. If you are a jazz vinyl fan, these are must haves for your collection. Great video. 👍

I only have one SAM Records, the Nathan Davis - Live in Paris, but it’s an impeccable copy, I love their alternative content of stuff you just don’t find anywhere else and the quality of the pressings is extremely high. Nothing but respect for them.

The store has a lot of great 2.nd hand jazz records as well (besides the Sams, Acoustic Sounds etc.). I retrospective, I wish I had bought some more while I was there.

For the time being (Aug '22), Fred is away and the shop is closed (due to his father passed away 😢).
Check the website to be sure if the shop is open.
This video popped up in my feed this morning and I am so happy it did as I don't seek out new channels as much as I should. I loved this video and thank you for putting it together. I have several Sam Records in my collection and I really like what they put out. I am trying to catch up on some of the other videos on your channel and have subbed.

Agree with you about the releases from Sam Records: It's really good music in a great quality - and for a very fair price.

Fred is fantastic with a keen eye for quality control and (IMO) great jazz. I have all but one of his efforts; the Artisan series release. 👍 One of my FAV labels!

I have the Miles Davis record. It's beautiful.
Yes - it’s great. And interesting that Miles - as a year later on Kind of Blue - only gave the musicians very few notes/instructions before they recorded.

Very very cool video Cap! I don’t own any Sam releases yet as I kind of became aware of Fred’s label a little later on, and a bit pricey to get in the States. But I’m hoping to get some in the future because I’ve heard such wonderful things! Cheers and thanks for bringing us this awesome interview!
Thanks Trent. In US you can order them from TheInGroove and Acoustic Sounds (around $ 40 each for many of them) so you won't have to struggle with customs, import VAT etc. As said: I think they are all worth having 😀
