I shot a double banded Canadaâs goose with a $100 reward band! When it fell, it landed on top of a stalk of soybean stubble that was stiff enough to impale it through the chest muscles , I guess it was karma on that one

We had a guy in our blind with $160 duck calls....birds wouldnât really respond to him. I was able to work every weary mallard in with my Jase Robertson tiger wood, milked them all the way down. The teal hen call even landed us some teal in the early morning.
I donât kiss ass, but I truly believe those ducks worked so well because of my calls.

I got a band from a green head about 30 years ago. I was 10 and I was wondering why my uncle was so happy. Pretty sure we mailed it out, when we could've just sent a letter or made phone call to report it.

I brought a buddy out with me for his 1st duck hunt years back & the 1st duck he shot was a hybrid with a band.
I've shot a banded snow goose and a dove but still waiting on a duck :|
He probably has many more bands I live in the same area as them actually where Phil grew up at in Vivian Louisiana bands fly threw all the time I have 6 and been hunt 7 years 3 in which was opening week this year so if I got 6 he probably has double if not triple the bands I have

Read a book about Jack Miner who started banding ducks back in 1915 or so in Ontario, he would put a verse of scripture on his bands, was a intresting book to read

I've always wanted to duck hunt but never have. I'd really love to hog hunt and I know that's all year here in CA. But what's the limit for you guys out there.

I aint no duck hunter because they aint around here but I would say if there closer put it on there body like you would a pheasant and if they are further out I would say put it in the head
But make sure if there crossing/above make sure you lead them you will hit way behind if you put the beed where you want to hit unless its coming at you because the beeds won't get there in time if there crossing and it will hit behind
12 years of hunting ducks I only got 8 bands and that's in California lol
Wildlife biologists (and volunteers) band birds to track there migration patterns...for instance..an a American wigeon was banded in Utah..9 days later it was shot in Londan England ..another was a Pintail was shot in Utah and was banded 17 years prior in the northwest territory .BC ...mine where all mallards and one cinnamon teal all banded within my hunting area
I know in California they put transmitters on the backs of teal ..never seen one though

I shot a banned snow goose it had two but I think they were put on the same time one metal on plastic shot it southeastâ Saskatchewan and it was banned in Washington DC and I just mailed in the information on the bans and they send me a letter back thanking me for sending them in

I'm a new duck hunter. Been once with my friend on opening day in an NC swamp. Shot at one and hit em but he kept going lol. We both ain't duck hunted before but hint everything else. What advise do you have for new duck hunters?

i took my sister's boyfriend out on his first duck hunt, and he shot his first drake wood duck and it was banded. ive been duck hunting since 2010 and havent gotten one. i guess its just beginners luck
What does that mean when they are banded
@@stevenhorton83 ducks and geese get banded federal and state agencies. when you shoot a banded duck or goose you register it online and it tells you where it was banded and when it was banded. that gives you a rough age of the bird and it helps the dnr set the regulations on how many of a certain species of duck or goose you can harvest in a day. like woodducks in minnesota the number of woodducks you can shoot in a day is three. bluebills you can only shoot one a day, it used to be three.
How do yall get ducks to finish they way they do ? We have had a hard time getting ducks to come into the decoys. They come by look circle a few times and then just keep going.
They donât like your setup then. Make sure your decoys are spread out and look realistic, have movement on the water (jerk line, robo duck. Things of that nature). Setup where the ducks wanna be, if itâs not natural for them to be there, then they arenât gonna commit to coming into the decâs anyway.
If you wanna look like a hero calling ducks you have to be set up where the birds want to be, the X. Spend time scouting and it really helps to be where everybody else isn't. Its hard to pull birds passing when they have a destination elsewhere.

@@insta_gunner_taco Yes, I got that, but how many time have people been killed by "unloaded" guns. Still think that a different hand off method would have been safer and more in line with the 5 rules of gun safety. Also I made a point to just say I "cringed" at the incident, not called them out as wrong.

I get both of your points and gun safety comes hand in hand with the second ammendment. But "unloaded" gun accidents usually come from people who don't know how to make sure a gun is clear. These guys obviously know what they're doing. No matter how crazy silus is.

Iâm not a hunter so can someone tell me what the bands are for?
Basically they are to track the movements of waterfowl and other migratory birds. Each one has a unique serial number that can track where and when the bird was originally banded. Hunters essentially provide biologists with the data they need when they report where and when the banded bird was harvested.

The ducks have all left the 'blue' state of New York and are down south in your 'red' state. I had to start hunting geese and they're not too cooperative.

A LOT. If you read his and Si's books they talk about doing a lot of poaching in their young days before they found Jesus. I'm sure Phil has killed tens of thousands of ducks in his time, I'm sure he has enough bands for quite a few lanyards... he doesn't seem like the type to save them though.
