  • In today's video, we will explore the watch brand of Vostok Europe. Vostok Europe produces bold watches with a style different than other brands. Instantly recognizable, the watches use a variety of complex case and dial constructions to make a product that is sure to be a welcome addition to any collection.
    Not to be mistaken with Vostok watches, Vostok Europe watches come from Vilnius, in the country of Lithuania. Born in 2004, Island Watch was actually the first vendor in the United States to carry the watches. We are proud to feature them again, and their collection of quartz and automatic watches that are unlike any other watch that is on the market.

    These are some of the coolest looking watches I've ever seen! Like something Nikola Tesla might have rocked on New Years Eve 1899! "It runs off the Earth's electromagnetic field"....."so you never have to wind."

    I bought an N1 Rocket quartz from them many years ago (i think it was 6, maybe 8 years). I banged that thing into doors, walls, you name it. Survived like a champ. Really good and beautiful watch. I have recently bought a Gaz quartz as well. Beautiful and refined. I personally think they make some of the best looking watches on the market, at amazing prices.

    Tritium illumination itself is pretty fascinating. I've had it on several watches over the years. It will be interesting to hear your explanation of how it works. It's basically an isotope of hydrogen known as hydrogen-3 and it has quite a few uses ranging from scientific research to nuclear weapons to little phosphor coated tube lamps in gun sights and watches.

    Didn't they use automatic Vostok based movements, with some design and functional changes ? I bought it from Island Watches back in '05, a VE Rocket N1 with dual time (GMT) function, and it uses a Vostok caliber. Nowadays I know they use quartz and NH35 auto Seiko sourced calibers.

    • @lukStSerb
      @lukStSerb Před 5 lety

      @Nuno MC ..and they still do use Vostok movements on some VE's.. it's just another branch [besides Chaykin, Buyalov, Amfibia, and Komandirskie-automatic] of the same Russian brand that's dedicated specifically for the Western market.
      Clock design is taking place in Lithuania and the development and modification of mechanisms in Chistopol city, Russia.

    • @user-wq6jm3pz7d
      @user-wq6jm3pz7d Před 3 lety

      Meranom is a selling company of Dmitry Buyalov - senior designer at Vostok watch company in Russia.
      Vostok Europe - is another company, created with some assistance from Vostok, but then goes their own way. Vostok Europe is located in Lithuania. Anyway, there is no blocking issue to sell VE via Meranom by Buyalov. Also, I would like to recommend to take a look at the Buyalov's own watches, called Buyalov Radioroom. In 2004, Vostok Watch Makers began supplying movements to the Koliz Company of Lithuania, makers of the Vostok Europe brand of timepieces.
    Also Lithuanian wiki says that Vostok Europe is a joint company of Russian Vostok and Kolz in Lithuani (although wiki may be worng, but still it has some business relations as opposed to "nothing to do")

    The way I see Vostok Europe is they had a good idea and some good design, the whole military inspired watches, the whole soviet tech... it's an idea. But along the road I believe they lost it, they made the watches bigger, more colorful, stopped using russian movements, which are shit let's be real, they made everything bigger, brighter and to me that makes them shit right now. And an expensive shit, about 1000$ for a basic seiko movement, a mineral glass and some tritium, it's way to much, also chinese made. At that price point you can buy swiss made automatic with sapphire and that beautiful timeless design. To me VE watches have the wow factor the first week (or month, or 10 minutes, depends) and then you realise they just look cheap, like a better made Invicta.

    That's a very questionable brand. They only exist because of the chaos in post-USSR brand space. Many brands have a number of companies in Russia claiming to be "the one, original, true successor" (almost all are actually not). Now branding a watch slightly different to the original USSR brand is not much better than Chinese "abibas" shoes and "Lefi's" jeans in my book. Imagine someone starting a watch company and calling it Longines South...

      EUR vs. USD Rate HistoryEUR/USD exchange rate history starts when the Euro was first issued in January 1999. It opened at 1.1795, although the rate then fell considerably in value. By the time the new currency began circulating within much of Europe in 2002, the pair was only 0.8907, after having fallen as low as 0.8225 in October of 2000.
