    i love the Okuma 8.6ft and 8.0ft Celilo rods for crappie and bream fishing. Okuma and Ugly Stik are the only rods i use.

    Definitely my favorite budget UL rod right now. went out to get another one and it was totally sold out. Guess I still have to take the phenix as a backup 😏

    Thanks was looking for a rod for my grandchild to pair up with a Zebco Delta. We live in Pocatello, Idaho, but used to live in Boise until it got so expensive.

    I hope these hood up for me. Berkeley makes the lightning rods which are similar in price. For the cork handle try using some cork sealant or leave the plastic cover on. Imho time will tell

    I’ve got a couple of these for me the wife and the kids. For the money best bang for buck for sure. Great beater trout rod or to help get someone into fishing. I think the black butt is just a cost savings measure to cap off the cork.

    Great content my man, thanks for making reviews like this despite the low view count. I personally love the color, it matches the color of blank fiberglass poles which is an old school rod color, and the plastic butt on the end of the handle is most likely to help keep the cork from chipping/wearing when being used or set down, I personally like that addition. One question, would you ever recommend this pole for ice fishing?

    • @humbugvideos
      @humbugvideos  Před 2 lety +1

      If they made a version for ice then yah, but if u need a low budget ice rod id recommend some 13 fishing stuff. For mid-high end I’d go anything frostbite. There rods are exceptional

    I have about a dozen rods of various weight classes and uses, but there’s only two rods that I can bring anywhere and are my favorite: 6’6” Ugly Stick Elite medium spinning rod, 10’ Okuma Celilo heavy casting rod.
    The Okuma has a line rating of 20-60lbs. Solid backbone, but the tip is sensitive enough to where I could use this to sabiki sardines if I wanted to.
    The Ugly Stik Elite is impressively sensitive, and has the strength Ugly Stik is known for. This rod will still hold up if you by chance hook on a monster. Doesn’t feel that way if you look at and handle the rod, but it has proven itself time and time again.

    I own a handful of these Okuma Celilo(s) UL and Light Action Spinning Rods, they're perfect for panfishing fun onna budget! My recommendation for those on a tighter budget are the Shakespeare Micro Series Spinning Rods, and they come in a variety of lengths (from a 4'6 up to a 7'6) for about $20 a rod. Best bang for your buck, in my opinion. #FishingFun101

    I was going to get this but I want something to match the Kast King Centron 500. It has that really nice Black/light blue and I have yet to find something to match. Can anyone recommend something? Preferably ultra-light 4'6 - 5'0. Great review anyway!

  • @dherdy9205
    @dherdy9205 Před rokem

    It's a butt stop , so you can rest the rod on the ground while you bait up , and because of that fine grade of cork the balance has to be matched for the weight of the reels intended ,
    I usually use my feet as a rest ,

  • @l4x3rj

    I have the 6’ 2 piece UL celilo and 1 piece at croix premier UL 6’ and I vastly prefer the Okuma. It’s more sensitive and responsive and the fore grip is actually full diameter instead of the thin ones often found on UL rods. I have a nearly 10” handspan so a larger grip is way more comfortable on long days for me.
    I like the black plastic butt cap too. I’m often putting my rod down on the butt to tie on and it keeps the cork from getting ruined. I treat it like the $30 rod it is and it hasn’t let me down once. I also wouldn’t feel bad if I accidentally snapped it hiking through the brush, but I would be pissed if I broke my $160 st croix

    • @l4x3rj
      @l4x3rj Před 2 lety +1

      Update: broke the celilo 6’ ul tip by getting caught on a tree. My fault. Luckily, the same exact rod was on sale on Amazon for $25! I got that and a 7’6” light for under $75 combined with tax.

    Hey Bug, so I have two of these on your recommendation. Both are light action and 6'7". I would hace 2 or 3 more but they were out of stock. When compared to my light pan fish elite rod (also recommend by you) these seem to have alot more bend. Im sure that bend will be usable in smaller streams were a flick is better than a cast. Also im guessing that black cap is to remove the cork and replace it either with foam or new cork? Thanks for posting. Catch a big one.

    • @humbugvideos
      @humbugvideos  Před 2 lety +1

      They are both awesome rods, glad u have both. Sometimes I prefer a rod with a more moderate action, especially with lighter line. It’s just a game of figuring out which rods work for how your targeting them. Thanks for the reply, hope u get on em too!

  • @itanamullik
    @itanamullik Před rokem

    The plastic on the end is just to protect the cork from water and stones so it won't crack and peel up. more expensive rods have rubber mixed with cork at the ends like you shown, it's just a cheap butt protecter

    I think the statement of “most rods in the low budget range are garbage” is kinda harsh, depending on what your intended fishing applications are, in my experience I’ve had cheap 20-30$ rods (okuma ceymar, Daiwa crossfire, shimano soujurn) and they all performed really good, for just an all around fishing application. Were they they the most sensitive? No. Did they all cast extremely well? In my opinion only the okuma rod did. Did they feel high quality? Of course not. But they served their purpose as a fishing rod quite well and each of them I had for over 3 years(currently I have the okuma ceymar) but it seems fishermen including myself are just obsessed with getting the best bang for our bucks lol
