I was at his final game on August 12th with some friends. The stadium was fucking ecstatic when he hit that double. It was like a World Series game. That week in my life and for many Yankees fans was a very emotional one. I still can't believe he had to leave like that when he was so close to 700. I'm gonna remember that moment forever, and especially that news conference. I was crying I just was so sad to see a legend announce his retirement ;(

it sucked that they didn't make the playoffs that year. I appreciate that he stepped down to let the younger players have more opportunity but it would have been fun as hell to let him try for 4 more home runs since they didn't end up doing anything that year anyway.

You can also pretend that Big Papi wasn't a Steroid using, phone smashing, temper tantrum throwing FRAUD, but everybody except the brainwashed "Redsox Nation" knows the truth to that as well...

Antwon Jenkins He wasn't told what he tested positive for, aswell as the many other people on that list from 2003. Just because they tested positive for a foreign substance doesn't mean they are immediately roiding up as these were newly implemented tests in the MLB making it unsure of what was allowed and what wasn't. David Ortiz didn't see any huge weight gain from his rookie season. He was always big in size this and the fact he vehemently denied using peds and didn't test positive for anything after makes a case for him being innocent in the hall of fame voters eyes. Maybe before you go on the comments and try to join the bs that everyone else is stewing. Do your research or search interviews of David Ortiz in the subject of peds. The only thing he remembered taking was things he could get from GNC, and their was a chance that Ortiz did not know every known banned substance as before this standard was put into place their was no ban on Steroids and many other substances.

I remember seeing his "retirement" as a forced exit because the Yankees didn't want him anymore because he had made a mockery out of himself, the game, and the DH spot in the lineup. The entire league was through with him. On paper he is one of the greats. But let us not forget how sick of him we all were by the time his contract was up.

Alex Rodriguez IS growing up in the 2000s. So many memories.. Idc what drugs this guy took he was incredible baseball player and i dont think he even needed steroids and he woulda been 1st ballot HOF. Him, Bonds, and Rocket Clemens are EASILY hall of famers. Anyone with a brain knows those 3 did not need steroids they were already super-talented
