    He's a great kid.....it's obvious he would rather be in a field by himself throwing then up in front of a group of people who are all intent on everything he says. It takes courage for someone who does not do large social interactions well to get up there and try and dispense their skill set to folks who really want to learn. I'm glad he jumped to Lat 64. Also stoked he just won Maple!

    I like that fact that he made notes. It shows that he cares about the clinic.

    I'd say what helped me the most was the run up and the angles. I found I would throw across my body sometimes.

      Wow, tell me about it. I hope for Ricky's sake, that person wasn't at his clinic, and just some clueless bystander. It would be, unspeakably ignorant, if that person were at the clinic, speaking over him, right in his face.

      I think its that guy Dan because when he turns to talk to him, the talking stops and it sort of sounds like him.

    Great points. Like the slow it down to improve distance, been working for me. I was not reaching back far enough and had to really slow down my run up to get the reach back timed right. Took me from 300 ft to 400 ft and I still don't run up fast for my max distance. One thing I'd add is see how Ricky's foot follows through straight and doesn't swing out... greatly helps reduce rounding and adds consistency.

    No ' Glide ', that's my dilemma. Notice where other peoples disc hit that stage of flight where the ' glide ' kicks in, on a decent drive, this might account for an extra 50 - 75 ft, my disc seem to defy the laws of nature and physics and do everything possible to get to the ground ASAP.
    Problem is so noticeable, I often hear from my card/group, " Whoa, what happened there? " I appear to be generating the power and speed to get an average drive out there 350 - 375 ft, but like I mentioned, when the initial burst is over, and everyone else gets a nice glide, my disc is earth bound in a hurry. And I hate it...
    Any ideas? I've worked extremely hard trying to figure this out, new discs, different discs, form check, etc, etc, etc . I promise, if you saw my average, pretty solid drive, that disc might even land 100ft shorter than you'd have guessed after it left my hand.

    • @rennlc
      @rennlc Před 9 lety

      seti111 It's probably not the disc unless you're only throwing molds specifically designed not to glide (Demon, Firebird, Stilleto etc.) You should watch Jay Reading and Dan Beto's instructional videos if videos are up your ally. There are also disc golf forums, like the technique and strategy sub-forum on disc golf course review, where you can post videos of yourself throwing and receive advice from players who can see something you're not yet aware of. Ultimately though, this is all just a way of gaining ideas about what to experiment with and practice in an open field.

      @seti111 Před 9 lety

      rennlc Thanks for the reply, Rennic. I played yesterday until dark, and this issue was the topic of discussion, and observation. It's been suggested that I might be releasing the disc on the correct plane, but slightly nose up. Also mentioned, this issue is often hard to detect because you power through that so quick, 20 - 30 ft the disc will have corrected itself, but will have lost a significant amount of speed in the process.
      Thoughts?

    • @doktarr
      @doktarr Před 9 lety +1

      seti111 I feel like the most likely culprit is nose angle. I'd also try more understable discs.

    • @seti111
      @seti111 Před 9 lety

      doktarr Thanks for the reply, Daktarr. Your opinion is following the common consensus. I'm going to the field soon with less stable discs, though I don't really carry super over stable anything, but lighter versions of what I do use. I've a ton of nice discs in the 165 gr range, and focus on release and none angles.

      @doxazo11 Před 9 lety

      seti111 Upload a video of a few of your drives and put the link on this thread. I did that recently and had several comments that revolutionized my technique which gave me much more precision and distance. You may even find the problem yourself if you are able to watch your throwing style. The problem could be several things but a video sure helps pinpoint any issues much quicker.

    Ricky should slow down a little when he explains things. I think he gets a little nervous but he should just remember that he has loads of knowledge about what he does. That's clear. I know some people don't like speaking to many unknown people but it's actually not too hard. The main thing is to slow down. He has his notes too, but maybe he could have had one of his friends there prompt him with the notes so he can focus on the details and let them dictate the pace. Nice video in any case, I like Ricky's sidearm, it's very clean.

    People are saying watching in 2x speed is funny... Try going to 0.25 speed or pause at 16:28 to see how he gets his power and accuracy. He doesn't mention the tongue out face in his clinic.
