Tony and Cecilia, you are the best! We are about to spend 2.5 weeks in Madrid and Portugal (our first time) and you have helped in the planning every step of the way. We make notes on each of your videos and very much appreciate all you do. We have reviewed several other content makers on Spain and Portugal, and YOU ARE THE BEST. Looking forward to our trip.
Many thanks for you kind words, James.
Hello, from Downunder! My first journey to Europe will start coming Wednesday- this will be 30 days of journey in Spain only. I believe that your channel is a very special Easter gift for me -Now I am booking trains, printing out physical tickets while listening all your comments and advice, which I have been looking for, but have never been found. I have been so worried about pickpockets only but completely forgot how nice many Spanish are living there; but you helped me to remember that, again (yes, still I would be careful with scam and pickpockets). I feel like your advice is very sincere and truly coming from neutral heart and wisdom rather than just a bit being useful; I believe that this is a true value of your videos, which we cannot find from any other channel. Thank you very much, again.
We are truly grateful for your kind words, we hope you will have an excellent trip!
Tony, I have just returned from 5 weeks in Sthn Spain, traveling between 6 different cities and following your advice the whole way. THANK YOU! You helped me have a fantastic time and every experience I had was positive because I knew where to go, what to do and what to avoid doing. Your advice is so sensible, clear and invaluable. MUCHAS GRACIAS!
Delighted to hear that, Gail. Many thanks to you and, ¡hasta la próxima vez!
My wife and I will be traveling to Spain and Portugal for 6 weeks at the end of the month. We have watched a lot of your videos and appreciate the information and insights!
Great to hear that, Doug, have a superb trip!
The videos of Tony are very informative and useful. We recently got back from our 1st ever Madrid trip for 8 days. We knew nothing or how we go about everything, luckily I was able to find his channel months back, With research and his videos, we were able to enjoy and eventually appreciate everything during our trip. Big thumbs up to you Senyo!
Delighted to hear we were helpful!
If you’re set on using public transport with large luggage in Spain, I’d highly recommend the Aerobuses! I took it in both Madrid & Barcelona and it was an excellent option - there’s plenty of space for large luggage, it’s only used by travelers to the airport so less chance of running into pickpockets, and all luggage is kept onboard the bus so it’s easy to keep an eye on your suitcases. I saw many people with huge suitcases use it with no issues, and it’s much less of a hassle than dealing with the subway with luggage
Yes, although you can't discard the presence of pickpockets in the shuttle buses, specially when they're absolutely packed, the ticket cost acts as a deterrent. But you need to pay 100% attention in the queue when boarding. 99% of passengers have no issues, whichever the transport. We want our followers to be in that 99%.
Excellent video with essential information! Detailed but objective as always. I really liked it 👏
Thank you, Yara!
Great tips from this channel for travel and safety in Spain and Portugal. Just arrived back from three week trip in Europe, Tony and team has condensed all the information in their videos to help plan the perfect trip with minimum hiccups, thanks! 🙏🏻
Great to hear that, hope you had a smashing trip!
Thank you so much Tony!! You have just given me perspective and also an answer to this same question i was asking myself! Especially your last sentence....about the cost impact of hiring a taxi on our already strained budget being totally worth it as opposed to the impact of the inconvenience of public transportation and/or of getting robbed! People like me take particular pride in saving money wherever possible, but no, you make perfect sense! So yes, taxi its going to be! Thank you so much for this gem of a video!
Thanks Monisha, we wanted to provide some context so everyone can take their own decision. All the best!
Hola Tony ! 😊
I try not to miss any of your videos and i highly recommend your channel to my friends. 👍 You give the most comprehensive tips and guidelines. 👍 👍 Thanks for sharing another very informative video 😊
Hola Philip, thanks for your kind words and constant support!
Hi, I came across your channel and enjoyed viewing your videos. Thank you so much for this short one. I have seen many other videos regarding the increase in pickpocketers in Madrid. It's very disheartening, but I believe it's happening everywhere in Western Europe and should not deter anyone from visiting such a beautiful country. We will be there in October for 5 weeks and looking forward to being back. Thank you!
Hi Helen, the presence of pickpockets is part of the reality of tourism in the 21st century - a very unwelcome fact. Yes, you're right, it's happening everywhere, wherever there are tourists, there will be pickpockets. Have a superb trip!
Tony thank you. I spent 6 days in Barcelona and your channel was the best guide.
Delighted to hear that, Gordana, hope you had a great time!
It was great.

We book an executive car to transfer to our hotel in Barcelona. I can find them for under $60, yes more than a taxi but I like the comfort and size. If all you have is a backpack and a carry-on, trains and busses are inexpensive but I am exhausted from the flight since I can't afford business or first class so a large private car is wonderful to us. Plus being 6'4" the taxis are too small
We've never seen the need to book a transfer in Barcelona, but everyone should to as they see fit. Barcelona taxi fleet has a huge number of vans that fit up to 8 passengers.
Great tips. People just need to stay aware of their surroundings to reduce the risk of getting robbed. We just came back from a month in the States and of course my wife had a huge suitcase. We used Cercanias from the airport to Atocha and she would have had a difficult time getting on and off the trains with it had she been on her own. Taxis are 30 Euros between the airport and Madrid Centro. Not the cheapest option, but it simplifies things making it worth the money.
Thanks Fred. With a ridesharing service it can often be less than 25€, minimizing any risks to zero.
Thank you for these tips ! I’ll be arriving at the Barcelona airport. Is it safe to take the Aerobus into the city ? Thank you , Pola
Hello, Pola, the Aerobús is safe, but always pay attention to your belonging. See the details of transport from the airport here czcams.com/video/YFJG4bZYxU4/video.html
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Gracias ☺️ !
Whilst I fully agree with your basic recommendations here. We did recently use the metro from Barcelona BCN. However we knew our hotel was very close to a metro station, with 1 change. It was a quieter time, early afternoon. Also there was 4 of us so safety in numbers. Lastly we also had padlocks on everything as a deterrent. Accepted could still, suffer knife slashing of bags. Regards Alan
Hi Alan, of course if you are careful and aware of the risks you can take the train, metro or bus, we made that clear on the video. It's all about statistics. Only a tiny percentage of travelers will be victims of pickpockets. Our work here is to spread awareness and make sure our viewers stay within the group travelers that enjoy an incident-free holiday. All the best!
Hi Tony! Thank you for this video. I am traveling to Barcelona and will land at 9:30 am, but I need to take the fast train to Madrid the same day by 12 noon. Do I have enough time or will I not make it to the train? I will be landing in T1.
Hi, Rachel, in Barcelona we will allow for three hours for a quiet flight-train connection. If for whatever reason your flight is delayed, you can always take a taxi.
Hi Tony! Your videos are great.
We will be traveling from one city to another by train (Madrid to Toledo, Toledo to Seville, Seville to Granada). Does Spain have luggage forwarding companies, so that we don't need to take our suitcases on the trains? (We've used that kind of thing in Japan and in Italy.) Any companies you can recommend or suggest to avoid? Thank you VERY much!!!!
Hi Dan, as well as private courier companies, the Spanish Post Office (Correos) has a specific service for that. Their website is in Spanish only, unfortunately: www.correosexpress.com/web/correosexpress/equipaq-24
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you!!!!
Good advice. How much would a taxi from Madrid Airport to Chamartin Station cost?
30€. See all the details here: czcams.com/video/QRjyWKX_HvU/video.html
HelloTony, good info as usual. We always follow your advice & instructions.Upon first glance, you appear to look like a priest with your black shirt with white collar😂😊.
🤣🤣🤣
¡Hola Tony y Cecilia!
Quick question:
Do you know if train stations have storage lockers (cabin rolling bag size)?
Specifically Figueres.
We will be leaving Barcelona to enjoy the Dalí Museum and spend the evening in Girona.
Or do you know if the Dalí Museum will store our bags?
We were recently in Malaga and the luggage lockers were in a place 1 street away from the train station. As we got there, 2 distressed people with lots of luggage were leaving, not able to leave their things there as none of their 4 cards worked in the pay machine. Knowing that, we tried going online and paying that way, which worked for us... so just be aware of that as a payment option.
Hi Mary, see our short video about lockers at stations: czcams.com/users/shortsZMG9oEBWcIo You would have to look for a private locker, and in a small city like Figueres we don't know of any.
Thank you, Gail. The situation with lockers at stations is plainly absurd, forcing people to use private usually unmanned lockers outside the stations.
@@gailnelmes1098thank you
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you, Tony.
Do you happen to know if the museums have a coat and big bag check-in area?
We have them in all museums here in America.
I plan to travel with carry on cabin size luggage and a backpack. is train easier and less crowded than metro? tq
Where?
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal from airport to collblanc or sants metro.
we are also having dilemma if to catch the train (from sants) or bus (from airport) to Tarragona upon arrival at airport.
@@cl2cllau763 if you want to go to Tarragona from the airport, the bus is the most direct option. Here's all the info on how to leave from the airport czcams.com/video/0tMGYYv-8nY/video.html
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank you, we will heed your suggestion. May I ask if I can have my luggage in sight while in the Plana bus? On the other hand, we will travel back to Barcelona by train. will we be able to have the luggage with us in the intercity train to avoid "unintentional" loss. thank you!
@@cl2cllau763 your suitcases go in the luggage compartment out of sight. In the train you can keep it with you.
Some Taxi drivers in Madrid are cheating .
Pretending they got 10e note only from you instead of a 50e.
Please be aware and watch what note you give them.
Also say that 30e fix charge from Airport doesn't apply in August,
If that should ever happen, call the police right away. Don't let them cheat you.
I did reported whole incident in police station.
Thanx
@@marcinsas8158 👍if everyone did the same, the police would have more evidence to be able to act against cheaters and scammers.
