Actually, what he did wasn't really unethical. She tried to commit suicide; psychiatric hold is typical for someone who attempted suicide to stop them from trying again.

@@nordinreecendo512 Holding someone against their will when you don't have sufficient evidence that they're actually suicidal is unethical. This would definitely never fly in the real world and would be illegal, but it's a show. It's funny reading people try to apply this logic to the real world, though, because without a court order you *cannot* hold someone against their will.

Worked out for me when they Anesthesiologist forgot to actually put me under in a surgery and I was awake for the whole thing, and only administered the paralytic. I finally was able to move after they moved me to recovery, immediately punched the nurse that was there and started to leave. A doctor got in the way, and I said just that. Skip forward 2 lawsuits, and they bought me a house.

@@willdavis3802 Brother what's the point of lying about this? Patient eyes are closed during surgery so how would you correctly identify the nurse that was assisting in the surgery? Also, why was the surgical nurse 1. in charge of anesthesia and 2. in your 'recovery' room? Lastly, what does that have to do with medical holds?
@@willdavis3802If that story is true, I hope you were arrested for assault. Too many bastards think they can take out their frustration on the nurses. We are just as much victims of the broken healthcare system as patients. Probably more so, since we get our souls ground up by it every day. Then people wonder why there is a nursing shortage.

The absolute best medical show ever ! Whoever wrote for House's character deserves a life time achievement award because i don't think anyone can compare to House, not in this life time. Nobody does it better than Hugh Laurie 😂😂
I wish that Hugh Laurie had used the cane correctly rather than walking with it on the wrong side for stylistic reasons though.
@@aivlysplath My headcanon was that House was either too stubborn to do physical therapy and learn how to use the cane properly, or he intentionally used the cane more like temporary crutches because he didn't want to accept the cane would be a life-long thing.
I agree. The writers are so clever it literally opens up in layers. Watch House over and over again and I guarantee you'll notice extremely clever things /jokes/ puns / references that you previously missed/thought were just filler conversation. Absolutely genius.
And then there's Hugh Laurie, the legend who breathed life into this character and played the role of troubled genius to perfection.

I'm 67. In the past ten years I had an heart attack, cancer, appendicitis that was allowed to become gangrenous, a blood vessel that was collapsed for four years causing tremendous pain, a misdiagnosed gallbladder at a University Hospital, and several other annoyances. Before these problems I was rarely ever ill. I almost forgot about a heart blockage that was missed after three heart catheters. The bockaged caused unbearable pain. I was given a placebo in an emergency room to see if I was faking it and when that didn't work morphine did but just barely. A stint took care of that. I'm not a complainer but it appears death's door is the only thing that gets attention and sometimes not even then. The doctor who diagnosed my heart attack was the exception. I've never been one that liked being in a hospital and it has to be really bad to get me there. My confidence in the medical community is very low. Still I'm polite and cooperative but to a certain point now if I'm being jerked around which doesn't seem that uncommon.

@@JoeMama-1diot The author is delibretly written in the episode to be all bark and no bite. Thoughout the entire episode she was a 60+ year old woman acting like a child. Spoiled brat syndrome. Not because she actually was a spoiled brat, but because she was broken mentally and was pretending not to care. House wa symboliclly the stern but loving father figure that outmaneuvered her at every tern because while she was trying to act smart, he actually IS smart. Like a child throwing a tantrum, there was NEVER even one moment where she was even the remotest intellectual threat to him. It's because he knows broken people. He knows pain. And knows when someone actually doesn't care vs when they are pretending not to. She wanted to kill herself because she was in pain (due to losing her son in a car accident), not because she genuinely was done with her life. It wasn't patronizing at all. It was a masterwork of symbolizem from the writers and genius control of a difficult situation by House, so much so he was never even really trying. He was a stern father dealing with a screaming toddler. By the end of the episode she is not only cured physically, but mentally and is no longer suicidal so I guess his "patronizing" worked.

Love Hugh Laurie in this. Love whoever matched the writing and the casting for this show. There's a "take no prisoners" vibe to the subject matter as well as a "the beatings will continue until morale improves" vibe that they somehow get to work. Also liked "Scrubs" which was similarly realistic, just a different vibe.
To sum up: Come for the writing. Stay for the vibe.

I thought I'd watch every episode of "House". This guy really is a genius. He was able to play this part without his British accent. He hated the fact the show ran so long because he's a musician and has his own band. I actually saw a clip of him and his band and they were great! He's a very talented musician. They couldn't pay him enough to keep playing the role of "House". So the "killed" him off, sorta.

In my experience people tend to recognize when they're annoying you and stop. To be called overly annoying typically means a person won't shut up and go away but the person they're annoying is too polite to do more than drop subtle hints.
