He does it to help him solve the puzzle and to fulfill his ego. He keeps them at a distance.
He did the same with Wilson until the last season. Their friendship consisted of House constantly analyzing him, without actually listening to what he was saying. By the end of the series, House let down his walls more.

i find it interesting that house is completely accepting and understanding of open marriages/polyamory, but an asexual couple shows up and he just has to prove that there's a medical reason for their "aberrant choices." even more interesting is that a lot of those open marriages are the result of some degree of asexuality in one of the partners... Definitionally open marriages can't work. The definition of marriage is a vow between one man and one woman to stay loyal and faithful for life. If you break that vow in any way, you have broken the marriage. It's like promising to keep a secret, immediately telling someone, and then saying that you kept your promise AND told people. It definitionally doesn't make sense. You can make up rationalizations and definitions all you like, but it won't make it true. Even if you're not religious, you have to acknowledge that marriage is not some legal paper the government gives you, it's a promise. This is true across all cultures who have used it.
While you can break the marriage and still remain legally married, definitionally, you have broken the marriage promise. It's why certain states have at fault divorce laws.
