      A topic not luggage related, but one that I see very seldomly addressed..... how to have and show respect for the countries you travel to.
      The westerners who only want to go somewhere and lay on a beach or board cruise barges usually don't challenge themselves by going to the less popular travel countries.
      But the world travelers like myself, we should be very aware of how the people live where we travel.
      Most of the planet doesn't know the word "vacation". They work every day to live and provide for their families. Westerners showing up, staying in all-inclusives, flashing cash and jewelry, this is horribly demeaning.
      Just something I personally address often.🤷‍♀️

      Love this video! I already assign outfits per day, but should do the try on thing 😊
      I would love more in depth on shoes! 💕
      Lol I usually bring 3, or 4. Always a pair of supportive house slippers because I hate walking around barefoot 🥺
      But my others are usually black skechers go walks, my black waterproof ugg boots, and the occasional 4th pair are slip on Toms with cushioned inserts OR Columbia hiking shoes (if it's that kind if trip).
      I really just want to find cute but comfy cushioned waterproof shoes that look nice enough to wear anywhere but comfortable enough to walk around a new city all day for a week lol, I don't know why this is so hard for me

    Trying on the clothes before packing makes so much sense. I have never thought of that. On many occasions, after arriving, I start to get dressed, I think, "Ugh. I don't want to wear that." Assigning outfits is a sensible follow-up. I will be trying that out the next time I travel. Thanks, Lauren. ❤

      Same, I always assume my outfits will look good since the individual pieces work already (I mean that’s why I bought and kept them right?). But once I wear the combinations at the trip, I realize how off they look and end up repeating an outfit or 2 + waste some time before heading out 😅 it’s definitely useful to spend that extra time at home instead of at the trip to figure out to whole outfit haha

I have the places we're staying on my weather app to see how the weather goes. I'm packing just my normal everyday clothes with a couple of options that can be dressed up if needed. If all else fails and I truly need something, they have stores too! Happy travels!

  • @OkieTLB

    Great advice! ALWAYS try on all your outfits and take pics of the different ways to mix and match. And never take anything that you haven’t worn at least a half a dozen times or so, especially shoes! My bestie and I are leaving in just over 5 weeks for Ireland and Northern Ireland. We’ll be there for 21 full days. We’ll be layering daily and we’ll be able to do laundry along the way. BUT, we are taking rain boots along with one pair of sturdy sneakers and another pair of comfy shoes (I’m taking Bobs; she’s taking loafers). Fortunately, neither of us wear make up, wear jewelry, nor overly fuss with our hair so we won’t have space taken up by those things. We are both using the maximum allowed sizes of carry ons and personal item bags our airline allows so I’m confident we won’t need to check in a bag. 🤞🏼

  • @Janjones7735
    @Janjones7735 Před 2 měsíci +2

    The more I pack carry on only the more I realize I’m still taking too much with me. I still end up with things I don’t wear or don’t wear often enough to make it worth it. I use a Delsey carry on I’ve had for years that cost under $100 and it works very well. I like some of the fancy luggage I see on your channel but I just can’t justify spending that much for something I don’t currently need.

  • @aliciaallen5575
    @aliciaallen5575 Před 2 měsíci +3

    I think the most important thing is deciding that you are going carryon only (or in my case, personal item only). Once you’ve made that decision, if you know what airline you’re flying, you know what dimensions you have to stay within. If you haven’t really committed to carryon only, then there’s a good chance that you’ll decide once you start packing that it’s too hard trying to fit everything that you want to take in your bag. But if you’re committed to carryon only, you’ll start deciding what truly deserves to go in your bag. Then you need to decide what your priorities are. My priorities are that I want my bag to be a spinner for ease of movement and have cats on it because I’m a crazy cat lady. Finding those in a personal item size bag took some searching. I’m still somewhat on the fence about whether to use my soft sided bag or the hard sided bag.

    I love your channel. Perfect timing on 10 tips! I’ve been researching carry-ons and your channel is the very best for product reviews. So glad I saw your lastest review on your favorites and I bought Quince expandable. I Like the zipper lock location, low weight and price. The only thing it doesn’t have that I would’ve liked is a handle on the bottom of the bag.
    I’m prepping my first carry-on only trip. One week to see family in Michigan. It’s will be in the 60s-80s and rainy. I live in the desert and expect I’m gonna find it chilly in the evenings. I’ve been pulling out clothes, trying them on and matching colors. Plus size here and appreciate your tips.
    My new personal item: medium Landon Dangne Dover mesh carryall. Needed something light and smaller. Big enough to also fit one pair size 12 women’s birkis that I use for slippers and shower shoes for support. Last but certainly not the least of why I watch you….I admire you for traveling solo. 😊

    Shoes are hard for me. I usually bring 4 prs. 2 is not enough. I do have a color scheme. For tropical vacations, I need water shoes, flip flops, or slides that triples as shower shoes, pool shoes, and slippers, a pair of dressy wedge sandals, and a flat sandal.

    @IntriguedLioness Před 2 měsíci +3

    Definitely good advice. I waited until 6:55 for you to say the words *"capsule wardrobe"* as that's a huge part of my traveling and what I advise others.
    And you are correct that it is not the bag as much as how you pack it in that people are looking at different brands and different colors... but as someone who doesn't do wheels I still think there is that one important question one has to ask oneself.
    Consider if your preference in a bag is convertible duffel / backpack, tote style duffle, or something with wheels.
    I still believe the style of bags should be decided, even if you go to stores and try walking around with a demo but as far as the brand or colour, this makes absolutely no difference as long as it fits in your budget and it's something you feel good about! 🌍🌎🌏

    Ok, I always pack carry-on but pack 3 pairs of shoes. I need to change my walking shoes everyday, I alternate them. This way my feet don't hurt as much and I'm able to do all the walking I will be doing. Then I pack another pair, sandals in summer or light boots in winter. I will change into these for like dinner or just to rest my feet. This is important to me and I can live without a lot of other stuff, as long as I don't have foot pain when traveling.

  • @annikki73

    Do water shoes count as shoes?
    I find cutting out shoes difficult because I'm picking several for specific functions. I need something flat with little grip that I can dance in (jazz boots), but I also need something I can walk in for miles like my regular athletic shoes and sandals (which are clunkier than because plantar fasciatist sucks). So that's three pairs.
    Plus water shoes. 😂
    I could probably not pack the croc foam slip ons that I like for going to the pool, hot tub, or sauna, but they've got arch support and dry immediately (unlike the water shoes), and are way easier to get on and off than my sandals.
    If I'm not going someplace hot and/or with swimming and/or with dance parties, I'm only taking two pairs.

      You seem to have everything prepared but I don't always depend on an Esim phone.
      To avoid being flashy and also in case of theft I usually take an older phone with me and get a SIM card at the airport once I've arrived. Local SIM cards can be VERY inexpensive depending on the countries you travel to whereas staying with your carrier an Esim might cost you more in the end.

    I really love the concept of carry on bag travel but I fly out of a small airport and must gate check all bags, of any size. If it rolls, it can't be brought on. Even if you try without wheels, it can't get on. And the only bag I've ever had lost or left behind is one that was gate checked. Left it right on the tarmac. So, I don't bother any more. I'd rather grab a bag from the carousel now. I do like follow for bag reviews and try hard to follow advice for reducing what I pack. Anyway, I do wonder if knowing you were going to check everything no matter what the size (other than a school sized backpack) would that change your mind?

My carry on restrictions are 20" x 16" x 9" and HAS to include the wheels! Air Transat is the airline here in Toronto Canada. It is a struggle!! I'm down to wanting to purchase the Take Off 2.0 XL. How do you find the spinner wheels on that bag? Have you used it often? Worried about cobblestone streets since the wheels are detachable. Any extra info on this would be amazing! Thank you!

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Hi! Have you flown with them before where you know they will check your carry on size at the gate? Those measurements still add up to 45 linear inches, so I’d imagine a 21.5 x 14 x 9 bag would be fine. According to Reddit, they rarely make you put it in, and if they do, it’s usually the overpacked soft ones with a wonky shape.
      For a personal item, either go small or do a backpack and board with it on your back.
      I find that 99% of the time, I’m never asked to put my cabin luggage in a sizer or get it weighed :)

      I take a pair of tennis shoes and a pair of random plastic comfy cute sandals that can work for both dressy and casual. I can wear them to dinner, around the room, at the beach/pool. The other option is if I think I really need it I can buy it there. If I need water shoes I bring the sock style as they don’t take up much room. The reason I take plastic ones is they can be washed off if they get dirty.

    Do you hand wash items in the sink and line dry? If so what do you use? I’m going to Iceland and want to hand wash my base layers, swimsuits etc…

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  Před měsícem +1

      It’s very rare that I wash anything on my trips, as I’m only ever gone a max of 2 weeks and I generally pack items I can rewear, like merino wool for base layers. There are non liquid strips of laundry detergent you can get, or small liquid packs for your liquids bag, if necessary.

    Another question: my personal item is larger than the size requirements, but it’s squishy, so should squish into the sizer if they ask… does that work for them? I have the Beis sport backpack…

      It all depends on the airline. However, I usually fine that if you board with the bag on your back, they usually don’t look unless it’s a very strict budget airline

      @@ItsTheKellys yes, I’m worried too. Hoping the measurements they posted on the website aren’t 100% accurate and that when you measure it, it’s slightly smaller so that it’s still within the 45 linear. Could you compare it to the Quince expandable please? ❤ 😅

    I realize this is probably very niche, but I need help. Could you do a carryon video for hot weather but it's a shopping vacation. 3 days. How do I get my treasures back? (It's a luxury brands trip)

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  Před 2 měsíci +1

      What kind of treasures are you buying and do you want the original packaging? For example, when I got my Gucci shoes overseas, I wanted to keep my box, so I just traveled with the shopping bag and box the entire way home, as if I just shopped at the airport, and it worked.
      Honestly, I’d do a backpack with my clothes and an almost empty carry on. If needed, buy a cheap checked bag for the way home only :)

    Great tips but what about top layers like jackets etc. Have you ever packed for Ireland? That seems tricky.

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  Před 2 měsíci

      I’ve been there several times but don’t have a video specifically for Ireland because I went before this channel existed. Check out my packing play list for similar weather packing. I have some videos there. Be sure to check the weather ahead of time. Look at using a packable jacket for fall weather, and they are usually waterproof. If you need a more heavier jacket, wear it on the plane because that does not count against you.

    I wonder if you would pack this way going to Disneyworld in the summer. I feel like you need two outfits per day. Then, people want Disney tops or ears etc. I’m really curious if you would still stay in a carry on😅

      I limit it to two pairs, one for comfort, one for style. So depending on my destination and what I'll be doing, it may be a pair of tennis shoes and flats, or sandals and heels, or some other combo. But basically one you can walk hours in, and one for dinners/going out. And those two are neutral to go with any outfit, because I do a capsule wardrobe.

    • @IntriguedLioness
      @IntriguedLioness Před 2 měsíci +3

      Go for a neutral color and comfort. I usually wear a walking shoe on the flight (to take up less room in luggage of course), as Lauren has shown with the Vessie.
      If you are a female, the second pair can be something a little dressier like a balet flat but once again, Comfort Comfort Comfort!
      After all, while you're looking at the world no one's really looking at your feet!

      I pack a comfy cute plastic style sandal (cute for dinner, cute for pool, able to wash off the sand or dirt or whatever) and a pair of tennis shoes/boat shoes. If you really need another pair of shoes then fine but cut back on clothes. Don’t let that be what keeps you from packing carry on only. I went on a ten day cruise and trip to LA and took two pairs of shoes and a pair of crocs because it was Christmas and they fit a theme. It just meant I had to take fewer clothes. I still had things I took home I either hadn’t worn or didn’t wear more than once. And I’m not tiny😂
