    "I walk through *graveyards* with a chisel, correcting the names of *trans kids* whose families said 'no' when asked, 'can you just let me live?'"

    Amazing. I absolutely adore this poem. My favorite part was when you said:
    "Burning for eternity seemed 5 times more doable than another day in the school lunchroom"
    I can't express enough how I adore this. Especially as a nobinary queer person. It hits home.

      I actually don't have a favorite part, it was all amazingly beautiful.

    You must have some idea how hard this hits when my trans cousin, the person I felt closest to in my family is only called by their deadname after they committed suicide this past year...
    This is why I don’t talk to my “family”

    Always been the weird one, never understood, bullied at school. Now I'm 51 and still don't feel like I fit in somewhere. I'm not Queer, but this poem ans the oh too many familiars feelings hit me like a brick wall. In tears now.

      There are many ways to be queer, and many people only find the words to describe themselves when they are decades old after assuming they were cisgender, heterosexual, and heteroromantic all their lives because that's what they were told.
      But also, this is an experience that is similar to what neurodivergent people deal with. Autistic and ADHD people, people with anxiety or PTSD or ocd. People whose brains work differently and others notice that subconsciously and see it as a weakness to attack and make themselves feel superior.
      A lot of neurodivergent people are also queer. And ableism, like queerphobia, shares roots in patriarchal social norms and the idea that only straight, cis, white, Christian, able-bodied and neurotypical (aka not neurodivergent), and middle to upper class men are the absolute ideal and pinnacle of society, so everyone who deviates from that is treated poorly.
      Really, it dates back to roman culture that spread through their conquest of that continent and then was continued by the conquered countries through colonization and restrictive laws. Just look at the Roman Catholic Church and what they preach about men being in charge of the household, about how anyone who deviates from the norm should feel shame and repent for their "sins".
      (Cw child SA and religious trauma)
      Even the awful history of religious figures in the church being abusive to young children, boys especially, is a cycle of trauma dating back to Roman pederasty and what often happened to young boys who were groomed to become priests and expected to "entertain" people in certain ways.
      So many of these systems of oppression have the same roots, it's just that some groups have made more progress in fighting against them than others have. Like all of the rights that women had to fight to earn, and the laws that so many Black people fought so long and hard to get changed

    I am an avid mental health awareness advocate and spoken word performer, and I love this so much. I travel the country trying to bring that awareness on stages, in classrooms, hospitals, and on my CZcams channel, so I get excited when I see other advocates. 💚

    I was gay when I was a kid, all the other kids called me “fat gay boy with an alcoholic daddy” my dad didn’t even drink. But I was fat and gay for sure. One day the teacher caught me French kissing my self in the bathroom mirror. Everyone died laughing over that one

    I switched out of the youtube account with my name on it because I'm afraid my mother will find this comment.
    I'm sitting here crying. I was meant to find spoken word poetry for my writer's craft class. I came across this and I was in tears one minute in. It's true and I hate it. It's true and I'm so angry I have to fight five times harder in order to live.

    • @Alex-fc8xn
      @Alex-fc8xn Před rokem

      If it helps, it truly does get better once you have people in your life who know and support you. When you get connected with local queer community at pride parades and events hosted by queer charity/community organizations. When you make friends with queer people who are decades older than you and know that they made it that far

    • @Alex-fc8xn
      @Alex-fc8xn Před rokem

      For now, know that you can find so much support and community online and that there are ways to hide it from your parents to keep you safe. Phone apps designed to look like calculators that hide files in them only accessible if you type in a password. So many ways to anonymously connect with others who understand your struggles, and many text lines and websites where you can talk to someone when you have no one to go to who you trust.
      I believe you'll get through this. That you'll keep yourself safe and when you finally leave the nest where you felt like an ugly duckling, you will grow into a powerful, strong, resilient swan and turn around to protect queer youth under your vast wings to help them survive until they too can spread their wings and be free to be who they are.
