I'm usually a Sega fanboy but in this case the SNES game deserved the sweep in all categories.

At almost 30 years old? My proficiency at playing Batman Returns on Sega Genesis is irrelevant to my overall quality of life. Perhaps I just have an aversion to cumbersome controls & grainy graphics with an excessively purple hue. In fact, this dovetails nicely with your key point: It's called preference. That's what makes this country great. People & opinions. Long live intelligent civilized debate about the 16-bit console wars!

Actually, there ARE ending images in the SNES version. You have to beat the game on the hardest difficulty to get them.

Console Wars Yeah, it kinda sucks to have to do that. Funny thing is Konami did the same thing with Contra III. I guess they wanted to encourage hardcore players.
Konami always did that on their SNES games.

I would totally watch a series of Sega CD vs Genesis games.
More like Atari Jaguar VS Nintendo 64 since the "bit-war" should be respected. 8-bit (Master System) VS 8-bit (NES), 16-bit (Genesis) vs 16-bit (SNES), 32-bit (Saturn) vs 32-bit (Playstation) or 64-bit (Atari Jaguar) vs 64-bit (N64), otherwise would be unfair because of the diferences in the architecture.
Besides, the Sega CD had various ports from the Genesis, from Golden Axe to Streets of Rage, also had revisions like Eternal Champions or Batman Returns, for a side project it will fit nicely.
Fury Rage Atari Jaguar was far from a 64 bit console.
Fury Rage ps1 vs n64 would be kool. the ps1 may have had less bits but I would even say it's more powerful than the n64. the n64 couldn't run cut scenes without using in game models plus the games were huge on ps1. I guess that was the benefit of using cds. it's still and even matchup imo
Red Gem God the system may have been more powerful but ur crazy if u think a cartridge could hold a bigger game than a disc back then. Why do you think everyone switched to disk? It was certainly not cheaper to make a disk game. N64 games are no where near the size of most ps1 games. It's a simple fact look it up before u make comments like that hahah
Red Gem God ps1 games could hold 600mb while the biggest n64 game was near 65mb. Why do you think their weren't any RPGs on the n64??

Great episode they're already funnier than a lot of gamers out there. I like to watch these guys and Teddy rub skin. I think this is one of the few times the SNES totally beats the Genesis version. Usually it's very close
Yeah, the SNES got the better Batman Returns, but I feel like the Genesis definitely got the better version of Adventures of Batman and Robin.

Actually, that batmobile stage is not mode 7, lot's of racing games on the genesis used a similar effect, mode 7 scales and rotates backgrounds to give it a 3d effect like F-Zero, Super Mario Kart and even the overhead stages in Contra 3, still, another great episode, can't wait for the next one, merry christmas guys.

Throwing enemies into the wall in the SNES version always had such a satisfying sound...and the large, detailed sprites were great too!
Even as a die hard Sega fan I agree the Snes version wins every category hands down... but I like the idea of Sega games vs Sega CD versions :)
Adam Michael yes the Super Nintendo version is better but it's really monotonous. the constant three enemies and waiting for enemies to return on screen after attacking them
lonely end i think the biggest offender for that was THE TICK... the game just kept going and going and going and it had zero challenge or variety... it's the only game i remember turning off even though i was beating the game without any problems, then returned it back to the video store a day early because i had no desire to play it again

I didn't know that Batman Returns on the NES or SNES was a thing until a few years ago. I really like the SNES game, but your points on why it has problems are totally spot on. Still cool though. Great video guys! And I'd love to see a Gens vs CD series.

20:24 - hey, that's me! Incidentally, that Robin action figure confused the hell out of me as a kid.
You made the cut! Yeah, it's weird there was a Robin toy.
Also the Penguin figure was just a repaint of a figure from another series. I remember because I had both.
True story: Robin was supposed to appear in Batman Returns and be played by no other than Marlon Wayans (No, seriously). They eventually cut out his character for the film but the Robin toy was already produced. Instead, they recolored the figure (if you look close enough, you can see that the figure has a flat top).
Have I suggested Killer Instinct VS Eternal Champion before? If not, then consider it suggested.

Batman returns on SNES DOES have a full ending if you beat the game on the higher difficulty, jesus, how cold you drop the ball in that.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the driving stages on the SNES aren't mode 7. It looks like line scrolling, like most racing games of that generation. In mode 7 games, the course tends to turn with the player when you make a turn, or maybe there's some specific details in the course... Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but you can really tell when you look at a line scrolling game vs a mode 7 game to compare.
Look at the first level of Super Return of the Jedi, or the Snow Speeder level in Super Empire Strikes Back for example. Those are mode 7. Mode 7 is background mode #7 (from 0-7 modes) on the SNES which takes the entire plane and scales/rotates it. Line scrolling is typically scrolling line by line to create interesting effects, like Axelay for SNES, or Panorama Cotton on Genesis just as an example.

Yea the SNES Batman Returns driving levels are not mode 7...but they look good, I think about the only thing thats better on SEGAs version is just that the driving levels, but NOT the cartridge version, but the SEGA CD version (done in the fashion that SEGAs AM2's super scaler arcade games like Space Harrier, and Outrun are done) quite frankly I think had Konami opted to use mode 7 some of the details in the look of the driving levels would have been lost, in favor albeit less detailed dynamic schrolling effects.

Great video, and although i still love the Genesis version of Batman Returns , i have to admit that the Snes version is superior in every way, and it's why i love that version also .
The SG offering went in an original direction and there are genuine moments of creative inspiration that sometimes pays dividends but the Snes game is just about perfect in every way concerning a movie to game adaptation

Great one. I knew the outcome way in advance. Revolution X is next and man that game was pushing those consoles to the limits.
I love the details, moodiness, and deep purples of the Sega version, but it just gets too damn difficult at times. I could never pass the ferris wheel level. The SNES version is beatable on any difficulty.

Wait, can't agree on the music? Wow..... the music in "Batman Returns" for the SNES game is based on the score to the movie composed by Danny Elfman(which I have no idea why you guys did not give him props)which is awesome. Best music? Hands down the SNES version of "Batman Returns".
I still disagree with Streets of Rage 3 having better gameplay than Final Fight 3 in that other Console Wars video you guys did. Most other people would say that Final Fight 3 is actually the better of the two games. But at least you guys got it right in this video since most gamers DO also consider Batman Returns on SNES as the better gameplay than the one on Genesis! Good work!

I have a unique suggestion. Since Batman has some great games on NES and Genesis/Mega Drive, maybe try a unique comparison with an NES game to a Genesis game. Though granted, I know Graphics will have to be handled differently, but I feel it's one of the few 8-bit games that has a chance against a 16-bit game. Both games are good, but I feel there can be a close call. So if you can consider that, I would love to see that.
I bet the hint is Revolution X! Oh no!! Actually comparing Sega Genesis games to their Sega CD versions might actually be a good idea. I'm all in!!

I actually liked the Sega CD version over the SNES game. Which was basically the same game as the Genesis version,but had multiple stages where you drove the Batmobile and had better music.
That music on sega cd was legendary.

The Sega one is so satisfying. I am even playing it again now. I played the hell out of the snes version as a kid, but I still like the genesis version better. I like the challenge. It makes you slow down and think to get through certain parts. The manual even states you will need to do this.

As with "The adventures of Batman and Robin", the sega version of " Batman returns" is more abstract, whereas snes version is like a guide to original work

For the SNES version, If the game makers were smart, they would have made cat woman playable. When you fight batman you fight the npc, if you play as batman you fight catwoman as the npc. If you two players play, you fight each other. They never "beat" one another so have the fight break up half way through kind of thing (almost like the boss in moonwalker).

LOL about the ending. Beat the SNES ending on Mania and you get a pretty good recreation of the actual movie ending. Very impressive for the time.
