Hi this is Barry from Canada. I have an almost identical bike except the motor is 500. Mark, make sure you have a very very good devise to prevent theft. Most people spend 2,000 on the bike, and then 5 bob on a chain you could bite through. A friend of mine had 3 stolen before he wised up. A tip for you, if you are going into a major food store and you are going to be away for a while, 1. remove and take the battery with you. 2. Remove the seat etc etc. It has worked for me so far. After riding racing bikes for years, I found the E bike difficult at first, fell off twice, but getting better, good luck have fun.

Hi Mark & Debbie. Discovered your channel last night. Knew just a bit about the English canals, but had no idea the extent of narrowboat and mileage in and around your country. The T.W.A.T.S. episode was my first and I binge-watched several of your videos. Also got my wife enthused about your channel and hobby. The Wales aqueduct is amazing. We'd never seen that before. I constantly marvel at land area and square mileage of countries (i'm in California) and how their land is developed, managed, and treasured! Great channel. Thank you for wonderful content. You and your dogs are a joy to watch.

Have fun on the bike. I ride an Aventon Aventure which is similar in concept to your Hemiway Cruiser (4" knobbies, 750W hub motor, big battery, fenders, rear rack, lighting, etc.). I'm in the US (California) but am planning on building a narrowboat in the UK on which to spend about half of my time when I retire (2-3 years). I think combining a stout ebike with a narrowboat is a great idea. Figure with moderate pedal assist you'll have 50-60 mile range per charge, which makes tow path jaunts to town and back from even rural moorings quite easy. Happy trails!

I am not sure when you made this video because the last one was last year and have to say Mark you look like you have already lost a lot of weight. So not sure if that had been a diet or the bike. Can’t wait to see the dogs on the front basket when you get it. Will be great in the summer Debs can send you out for a take away and still be hot when you get back to the boat. Hope Debs you are well and keeping your big kid in check. I just hope the weather improves as it seems to be constantly raining. This time last year was hot and sunny! That multi-tool looks identical to mine. It's a bit flexible but pretty useful anyway. Both my recent bikes have had hybrid tyres with no more tread on them than a car. I had some _fun_ with my latest on mud the other day. :) One lot of mud was stiff enough to push me into the deep ruts; so deep that once or twice, my shoes were entirely submerged in the puddles! The next lot of mud was so soft and slippery that it was hard to move forward. Then there was a waterlogged field with all its exits either half-obstructed or turning into ponds. (Very pretty though.) I missed my last bike which was 2 wheel drive. The pedals drove the rear wheel and the motor drove the front wheel. That made such a difference, it was all right in any mud I took it through. That said, it had fairly wide hybrid tyres, nearly 2.5 inches, and I couldn't find replacements that wide. My new bike has 2" tyres, and the motor drives the rear wheel because I wanted it driving through the gears. (It's a crank motor.) It's not nearly so good in mud, though it's a better hill-climber and I live up a steep hill now. I could change the wheels and tyres, especially as it has far more range than I need 90% of the time. Or I could ride further on dryer paths. I'll have to have a think about which will be better.
    Oh hey, nice watch.
Yours is a nice-looking bike, though I'll say I like my solid black and red Eco Voltz bike just as much. ;) My new one's a Gazelle which looks a little less stylish despite the integrated battery. I think it's the color: teal-tinted charcoal. It's smart enough, but I don't think I'll have an integrated battery again. It makes the battery harder to hold (and it's very heavy), and I suspect it adds unnecessarily to the weight of the frame.
Oh disk brakes! The Gazelle has them and it took me a few weeks to get used to how powerful they are. :D I love 'em! So yeah... it's better both up and down the hill I now live on, which is so steep, you can top 30mph in a few seconds if you're not careful. The first few times I went down it on my new bike, I was afraid I'd go over the handlebars too!
Oh look at that! The Gazelle has a USB point too. I never thought to look, or maybe I just looked in the wrong place. I'm sure the Eco Voltz (from 2017) doesn't have one.
Both my e-bikes took some getting used to. :) The Eco Voltz has rotation-based assistance; when it detects you pedalling, it turned on. It sounds like your Himiway is the same. The Gazelle assists depending on the pressure you put on the pedals which makes it a little bit harder work, but gives you a lot more control. The greater control is good with a crank motor because it can put down maximum power with not just the pedals but the _motor_ in the lowest gear. It takes off pretty quick if you're not careful! :D It also means I'm having to learn to modify my pedaling for hills; pushing forward and back as well as down to keep the assistance up.
The Gazelle's a monster with the power off too; it's not fun. The Eco Voltz is a heavy bike, but not monstrously heavy.
    Bluuues! 😎
16:26 Oh all right, the Himiway wins. Going through puddles, it kicks up a lot more water than either of my bikes! 🤣

Thats a monster bike Mark. I have an ebike which is heavy and has 7 gears and I tend to use level 4 & 5 most, if on off road area I do go up to 6 & 7. Mine is ladies model as I am an elderly female (76) and prefer step through type now. I do tend to use quick spurt on throttle to get me going. I also have pair of paniers on back, it did come with front basket but I found items tending to bounce out. My husband also has a lightweight ebike that has 21 gears although he rarely gets to go through them all as he will follow behind me. I have tried cycling with gears turned off and it is hard work but they are great. Soon get used to switching through the gears. Mine does not have powered cycle bell so I have a dinger type one to let folk know I am coming through especially on cycle paths. We have a caravan now as no longer boating and hope we can start taking bikes with us. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate your bike

Is any of the pedal assist benefit offset by trying to move the added weight of the bike? It the exertion of pedaling less because of the power assist? Are you getting any workout? Is the center of gravity changing the way you ride the bike? I have more questions, but let's leave it at that. It looks fun.

You only have to start gently pedalling and the motor kicks in, with the 5 assist level =so you can fine tune it to your preference to very little assist right up to the motor doing all the work

I have a city e-bike with 7 gears and 3 power levels. I generally start off in gear 3 and power level 2. after 2 revolutions of the pedas the motor kicks in and then it is a matter of adjusting gear/power to the terrain. My bike needs the pedals to be constantly rotating for the pedal assist motor to work. I do not have the motor only option. You do gget a workout, but it no tour de france exercise.@@welldeckdiaries5610

Was just wondering, where would you store it on the Narrowboat ? As it does look heavy, thinking it might be a pain keeping it on the Roof most of the time. Henry

As someone who is disabled, I have a couple of mobility scooters of different makes and the one thing I've noticed is their different torque going uphill, whats the torque like on your bike?

Saw that the boys at Foxes Afloat invested in a couple of Cruisers. Did they copy you? or vice versa. It seems perfect for the Highlands!!

My biggest question with any new ebike is quality. I've had 3 ebikes at around the £1000 price point over the last 3 years living aboard, and they all had major expensive failures.
I honestly don't think the quality of components or build is there with most ebikes under£1500.
If I was buying another one I'd up my budget to at least 2k and get the Etna Legend, or a proper named brand, because at 1k you're buying something that has too high a chance of failing, and costing you several hundred to fix.
Sorry to sound a negative note but I don't want more people throwing their money at something that won't last more than 2 years at most.

Pedal assist? 👎🏼 that stinks that they don’t allow full speed. I bet that thing weighs a ton. Hella workout without the pedal assist.

Prefer your proper vlogs, not keen on product endorsement, it damages your authenticity in my opinion. Looking forward to more of YOUR vlogs.
