A step by step guide to installing an Over the Range Microwave. This video walks you through the step by step process of removing and installing an over the range microwave. A few notes:
One mistake I made was to not but in blockers between the microwave and the top cabinet. There was one installed in the middle but I should have put two where the screws were located. The microwave is GE JVM6175SK2SS.
Also, safety first.
Times for the different sections are below:
Removing old Microwave: 0:04
Setting the Bracket on the Wall and drilling cabinet: 14:32
Setting the Blower Fan:17:46
Installing the new microwave: 23:12

Thanks so much.... installing the same unit tomorrow for my ultimate customer ... yes ... my beloved. Really appreciate your skill, craftsmanship, and empathy for those of us (even us beyond the horizon seniors) who continue to learn, goof up, learn more, and try our best to please our families. Very well-done Sir!! God Bless. 42Jack.
You are very welcome
Great video. I had to replace an old microwave I installed 11 years ago this weekend. Watching the video was a great reminder of how to get it done right the first time. Worked like a charm. Thanks.
Good stuff!
Thank you for making a straight to the point but great step by step instruction! I installed my first over-the-range microwave All By MYSELF :)
Awesome. Very satisfy to complete it yourself and save some money.
Thanks this is exactly what I needed, well done easy to understand. Clear instructions, I also feel confident going ahead with this project.
BTW your emphasis on safety first was awesome. I kept getting the "look" when I was saying the same thing to my girlfriend when we took the old one down.
Hi,
This is a great step by step video!!! I am installing the same model tonight for a tenant from a different brand so brackets will for sure be different. I feel very confident that I can do it myself. Your instructions were just perfect.
Thank you very much and please cross your fingers for me. Thank you again.
That was a super helpful video. It made the whole process less painful and made it so I understood what was gonna unfold and not get too anxious. Thank you!
Did a search for the GE brand I just bought and this was at the top of the list. So glad I watched this as the paper instructions were very hard to follow. THANK You so much!!!
They were? I actually thought they were really good instructions compared to most things. Definitely better than IKEA furniture.
Glad the video helped.
Great video, I am electrician and have no clue how to install this microwave, except the power outlet because that is my only expertise. My home microwave burnt almost one year ago and I was reluctant to install. this video really boosted me to install the Microwave to make my wife happy. Thank you my friend
Glad I could help

Thank you. I wish the previous owners of my house had watched this and not left the Bracket on the shelf above the mircowave. But we are good and secure now.

Thank you for a great instructional video with common sense and pleasant delivery.
I am replacing our old microwave, that had a mind of its own, by also replacing a Thermodor over range hood with a monster fan on roof, with a 1.9 Sq ft Samsung microwave over the range ( that went on sale for $ -240 at Lowes ).
Thanks for your helpful video and insight.
Good luck and thanks for the nice comments
Thank you for the video, first replacement and I’m confident I can do I it after watching your video. Thank you

I bought the same model of microwave you just installed.
Best buy was going to charge me $140 to install the microwave, the microwave itself what is $179 + tax. I believe my brother andI can install the microwave with your instruction thanks very much!
Awesome. Good Luck for $140 you can buy a lot of microwave popcorn
Dude! Great Video! Thank you sooo much. Really well done and you saved me a lot of time doing my own swap out from old to new microwave.
Glad it helped!
This was REALLY good, full and complete
Thanks. I am glad you liked it.
Thanks for the helpful hints. I'll be installing my new microwave tomorrow full of confidence. I appreciate the emphasis on safety. I'll be sliding out my new stove to save both it and my back should the awkward, uneven weight of the microwave mess with me. Good job explaining what you were doing and what tips should help me for my first microwave installation.
Great hope the installation went well
One of the BEST instructional videos EVER. Thank you !
Wow. Thanks. That is a great compliment.
Great step by step video easy installation.
The fact that you piped up and warned about the weight for the people with bad backs (me) made me click subscribe for that alone. Very knowledgeable man and lots of helpful hints.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching. And will do.
Excellent! Thanks for putting such great product out on CZcams!
Thanks and thanks for watching
One of the better how to videos I've seen, thanks
Thanks
After watching 3 videos this one prepared me the most. Although I am a "woman", and I do a lot of things alone too. I need my back to do all of the things I do alone around my house. Thankful for your beating a dead horse.
Thanks for the feedback. I am really happy the video helped.
I did not have any idea how to replace our over the range microwave. I watched a couple of videos but yours was the best. I now think I can do this myself (with my wife's assistance) saving me the $100 install fee the appliance store wanted. Thanks so much!
How did it go?
We have not purchased the new microwave yet but I am hoping we (my wife and I) should be able to the job ourselves.
Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
It went pretty good. We got a good condition used microwave (new to us anyways) so the price was right.. The only issue I had was that was that I did not have the paper templates on where to drill the holes in order to attach the microwave to the shelf so I had to make my own template.. Your tips where surely helpful on the installation. Thanks.
You are an amazing teacher🙏🙏👍🏽 Thank you. Now I want to install my over the stove microwave on my own👍🏽
Go for it!
Thanks for this quick and to the point video, it helped me immensely. The customer (my wife) is highly satisfied 😂✌🏾

Very informative! Just bought a new GE. Replacing a blown up Samsung. You are about to be my guardian angel in this endeavor. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!!
Glad the video helped. Good Luck.
Very good and informative information. He speaks clearly and confident. Thank You so much. You should be an instructor
I'm sorry to tell you this but I believe you installed your blower fan backwards. If you look at around the 20 minute mark you'll see that the blower is facing the backwall of your microwave and thus just blowing the air into the backwall where it is trapped. According to the instructions the blower needs to be facing the front of the microwave so air can travel through the tubes at the top and out the top front of the microwave. To check this, just turn on the exhaust fan and see if there is much air coming out of the exhaust port at the top front of the microwave.
Other than that, this video was great, thanks for the help!
No, he wanted it to blow out the back. The wall facing the back of the microwave has a cutout for the exhaust. You can see it around 23:10.
Nice. Good job explaining the process.
Glad you liked it
Exactly what I needed - a walk through the process. Thank you. P.S. A chiropractor is on standby just in case.😃
Great video. Thanks!

Thank you for your video. You explain everything very clearly.
I think my microwave blew a fuse and I figured out that the custom site built cabinets were built wrong, since I can’t access the panel screws. I will use your video to remove the microwave, change the fuse, and go from there.
I am happy it helped. Good luck!
THANK YOU !!!! This video was very easy to understand and follow, informative and helped us immensely.
Glad it was helpful! Good Luck
Hi, thanks very much for your help. I have a Maytag overhead range that just quit on me by a humming sound. I checked the breakers and all was fine. I got some one came and found the bottom half of the plug dead. But the upper half had power. Yet the range would not work. He did some adjustments and the range got power. Then he told me not to turn it on without something in there. He left and my daughter went to use it and it quit again.and he is not coming to fix it again. I spoke with him and he said the transformer might be the problem. I am reaching out to you to see if you have any answer for me. Thanks!
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching.
Wonderful instructional video. Thank you so much!!

Good install. The booze goes in that cabinet above the microwave 👍
Good call!
how do you seal up the exhaust vent so it dont ooze grease down your wall and into the microwave itself?

Your welcome
I just installed a JVM7195. It replaced a 10 year old GE Profile model that was a forerunner. The former one had a single support bar at the bottom, no side rails as your new one. My new support bar/side rail is exactly like this one. My cabinet over the oven does not have a floor. It has a vertical discharge (not rear horizontal like this one), but nothing to support the two bolts you inserted through the cabinet. I used two chains/turnbuckles to attach to the same support points on the oven. I found studs and used a lag bolt to attach a link to the back wall. I hooked the turnbuckle to the link/lag bolt, then ran the chain from the other end of the turnbuckle to the top of the oven. In shrinking the turnbuckle, pulling on the chain, the oven is snugged up to the cabinet. My biggest problem was getting the new oven fitted to the new support bar. I had the range pulled out, but had trouble lifting the oven in to place. (I am 79, not as strong as 10 years ago!). I held the rear of the oven to the wall, front on a 4 ft step ladder. This allowed me a temporary positioning. I then used a ratchet strap to make a sling - one end hooked to the cabinet on one side, the other end hooked to the other side. This allow me some flexibility to get the oven hooked to the support bar. The key was the ratchet strap sling. I share all this, hoping it may help others.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching. Glad it worked out.
Great video , thank you.
Thanks

@@KletteTech Not ashamed to admit I needed my son's assistance in holding that sucker up - and those flimsy pieces of paper for the screw guides were not fun to work with...but I got it done and now we have a properly installed microwave...Thanks again!
Very helpful video. Thank You Very Much!
We were able to rescue a bird which was stuck behind the microwave that came in from the external vent. Eventful & Happy Memorial Day!
You're welcome! That is a crazy story. Happy the bird got out.
Thank you sir for this video...very instructive. God bless.

Terrific video. Thanks very much!!!
Very welcome!
You did awesome on this not so easy tutorial.
thanks and thanks for watching
Great video, Have you ever run into a over the range microwave install (replacing old with new) that the electrical outlet is hiddent behind the microwave instead of in the upper cabinent? Thats my situation, do i need to have electrician move AC outlet to cabinent? or will i be able to plug in and cram the cord behind unit?
No. I am not ever sure how that would work. That cord would be super tight fit. I am not even sure that is safe
Thank you! Just installed our GE over range microwave oven. When we removed the old microwave, the vent hole was just a large hole in the gyp. There wasn’t the flap. What issues will that create?
The question is, where is the air going? If the air has no where to go then it will damage something. You don't what that air just siting there.
Yes thank you, I did it with your help. The instructions in manual were useless .
Glad it helped
Great video for a DIYer, one man operation.
