I love the real-time problem-solving at the beginning.
You are awesome. NO loud music. NO goofy lines or unneeded rhetoric. Thanks.
"At this point I may have to actually read the instructions". Classic. Thanks for reading them for me.😀
TWO big-ass thumbs up! I was hired yesterday to mount a TV and microwave. Although I’ve mounted tons of TVs, I’ve never done a microwave before in my life. After watching this incredibly descriptive video, I not only sounded like I’d done this before, but the job came out perfectly! Thank you so much!!!
Jason , fake it till you make it.
Hope you used the washers and did not leave them out like the video. That's a big No No!
Haha! I'm about to do the same thing today. Never done it before😂
From all Anti-instruction Readers everywhere: Thank you.

Almost 4 years later, this is the BEST install video. If you follow his instructions, especially with the tile backsplash, your install will be flawless. An actual installer couldn't have installed mine any better. Thank you HouseImprovements, from a new subscriber!!!
Glad it helped!
I bought a 56 lb. microwave that I was trying to install above my stove underneath a cabinet. I never would never have figured out how to angle it to get it on the track without watching your video. I cannot thank you enough for going to the trouble of posting this video. God bless you.
Hey,ASSMAN,you have the plates like Kramer
@@martytruelove5026 Giddy up! Thanks for your great comment.
Refused to read instructions so hard, he ignores the large embossing that says, "BLOWER SCREW'S!!!" 😝 (I do that too haha)
we just bought a house and this is one of the main updates the wife wants me to do ASAP after we move in.. i knew this task was simple but man you made it look like a no brainer. awesome video!
We have a second one as well if you require venting it out side.
Dude, this is the best how to install OTR microwave video ever!!!!
This is the video that saved me a year or two ago. My wife just bought a new house a month before we met, when we weren’t super serious she bought a new microwave/range to exhaust through the roof and she hired “professionals” to install it. Two years later the microwave/exhaust gave out and completely quit working. I found a new unit on Kijiji for $50 CAD that worked perfectly and this video helped me figure out how to take the old one out/down and put the “new” one up. We now bought a new house which doesn’t have any over the range exhaust and my wife misses the microwave/over the range exhaust and this video helped me graciously to understand how to start one from scratch, thanks!!
A great thorough and very clear instructional video. Watching this made installing our unit a breeze. Ready to install another one and watched again to refresh my memory. This actually made the installation a fun project. Thanks for all the great videos Shannon!
Thank you for the help. It had been several years since my last microwave remove/install. Watching you made the whole process so much easier. The old one is out, the new one is in. One person install just like you did.
Your videos are great ! Clear, concise, and to the point with no added nonsense. I am subscribing now !
Thanks for the video. This is how you do a how-to video. You got straight to the point w/out unnecessary, excessive verbiage! Well done sir. And thankfully I watched it prior to ripping into the box and ruining the templates which I would have done without this information. Thumbs up!
Guy that installed mine a few years ago never changed the flow of the exhaust and I never noticed until I had to redo the vent to outside. Didn’t think it was this easy, thanks
I've watched dozens of Shannon's videos......no one does a better job of explaining DIY projects than this guy! Excellent video!!
Great video! It has clear and userfriendly directions to follow. You did a great job explaining how to to this. By the way, I like to be able to see the unexpected things that we can run into while doing this kind of installation. Keep making these videos, so we can access to them and not be afraid to tackle projects like this.
This is the second video I've viewed for help with appliance installation from the Houseimprovements channel (the first was for built-in dishwashers installations). Thank you! Your videos are a breath of fresh air for us non-professional DIY-ers!
Wow searched 2 different how-to videos today and you delivered both times! Nice job thank you 🙏
Believe it or not I bought the very same microwave, and the same cabinets. I have read the installation instructions several times without understanding, everything was as clear as mud. Your video is clear and concise to the point and easily understood, made installation crystal clear. Thanks to you this job was without headache. I can not say Thank You enough, keep up the good work.
Believe it or not, i just got the same microwave, same cabinets and knobs and exact same backsplash.
Super helpful video, Shannon. Thanks so much. The challenging part for me was working with walls that were not square which was going to effect the ability for the door to fully open. I figured out a slightly off-centre position for the back plate on the wall, drilled an oversized hole for the power cord then "dry" mounted the microwave. My son held it in place and by tipping it down a bit, I could see the line where the two top screws had to be. We then removed the microwave, put up the top template and lined up the screw holes we marked with the template which gave us the depth. We drilled the top holes and they lined up perfectly. As desired, the microwave was positioned a bit off centre so the door could swing fully open without hitting the adjoining wall.
I do appreciate the step by step install of the microwave, he made it easy and explained it very well. Put it up faster then I’d expected.
Thank you
VERY clear instructions! Simple yet detailed. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. No excessive talking etc. Thank you.
I have installed a few microwaves and always look for better and easier ways to do the job. Thanks for the very informative video. You do good work.
Thanks Shannon for taking time for make the videos you do! I am always pleased when your videos show up with whatever type of project I am looking to do. Your videos are well done and easy to follow. :)
Brilliant. We just bought this exact same Microwave from a scratch and dent store, installing it where there previously had not been a unit. The whole thing perplexed me. You helped me solve the template issues. Seriously AMAZING!!
"At this point i might have to read the instructions" that's usually me at every project I do! 😂😂😂😂 very good video, thanks for saving us a lot of reading! 👍
Great video as always ! The only one tip from my MW installation experience with all that kitchen cabinets quality that could be a good idea to use large diameter washers for those upper bolts or sometimes plates if the upper shelf had a bunch of holes from previous installations . After few years of usage the smoke and steam from MW vent makes top shelf "wood " softer and bolts start sinking thru the wood in cheap cabinets (seen it many times in last 20 years installing MWs)
The microwave comes with them but he must have forgot to use them or didn't think they were necessary. I use them myself.
Good tip!
Awesome video. I watched this and your microwave removal video too, got the project done almost exclusively off these two videos alone. Simple, to the point. My microwave was the same brand as in this video so that made it all the more simple. Same bracket, same hardware, same templates.
Thx for the non perfect install of the microwave unit. Every install is different and you never know whether it's simple install or a total rebuild. Thx again for this raw format, its more realistic than some of the other ones I've watched. Cheers!
Your uninstall and now this install video were a HUGE help. The tile backsplash on my wall went halfway up the back of the microwave, so I had to drill right through the tile. I didn't have masonry bits, so I sacificed a few wood bits to the "honey-do-list" gods rather than making a trip to the hardware store. Worked out just fine in the end. Thank you again for the excellent how-to videos. I'm eating a plate of warmed up leftovers as I type, thanks to you. ;)
Six years later and this is still the best video on the topic. Still 100% correct. Nothing has changed with how to install these vent/micro units.
Absolutely outstanding tutorial. Thank you. Saved me $120!
You're welcome!
I watched both the removal and installation videos and I now feel that I can absolutely do this myself. I honestly appreciate the fact that you leave in the parts where you have to refer to the manual. We all do. These videos are very well done and please keep them coming! You have a subscriber for life!
Great to hear!
A helper is always a plus!
Love how the video was for install and removal was presented in 2 separate videos.
2021 4 years later and this videos STILL HELPS tysm!!😁😁
Cannot thank you enough for this video and excellent information. The way you showed each step, the how and why helped me to install my microwave. The idea to use an extra piece of wood for the mounting bracket and how to mount the bracket got me past the biggest problem. Took me about 1 hour from taking out the old microwave to installing the new one. The other best part is saving $130.00 by installing it myself.
Great tutorial. Very detailed, and made it a lot easier. Saved me $117 in installation fees.
I had just finished the install of my new microwave after watching this and it went so smooth without any cursing, lol. I also ran into the same issue where the hanging bracket would be halfway on the backsplash tile. I had to use a piece of 3/8" plywood to "build it out" as you say. Also, great tip on having to move the upper cabinet template out to compensate for the 3/8" being built out. That little tid bit of info right there probably saved me from having to make swiss cheese out of the cabinet and most likely cursing out loud. Thanks Shannon!
I curse just to give myself company.
hey Dave, I know this was 5 years ago lol, but I'm just about to do the same. Did you get longer lag bolts to allow for the thickness of the ply? My ply is 1/2" and the bolts are 2". Seems like using the originals would reduce the penetration of the stud significantly. TIA (if you can even remember!)
Thanks Shannon! We just watched this and my husband and I installed it ourselves! Nobody even yelled! You are a lifesaver!
That is awesome!
I honestly didn’t “learn” anything from this video but I watched it as a refresher before I installed a new one in our house (same microwave actually). Of all the videos I could have watched on the subject I searched to see if you had one first and as always, it was extremely helpful. Thanks!!!
The instructions was really clear and insightful. I have one to install at my home. Excellent video. Thanks
A really informative video and easy to follow along. Thank you for including instructions regarding the butterfly bolts. That was exactly the instructions I needed.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I was able to replace my microwave from following your video. THANK YOU!!!
Appreciate you taking the time helping out in making this video and not editing out the few seconds on figuring out how to take adjust the blower fan. Thank you helped out a lot
I really enjoyed that you had to read the instructions. Shows that you're human too! 😁 Great videos! Keep em coming.

Any professional takes the time to read the manufacturers specifications. If you don't, you're not a professional.
It shows his high self-confidence either, otherwise he could re-edit the video and cut that footage. Although I can't even dream to have such a kitchen neither these appliances, but I enjoyed watching this video.
Appreciated that too! Thanks for not pausing and coming back later to me it seem perfect...
Thank you for the video, just getting ready to replace my old on that’s and end of life and needed the confidence to know if I can DIY.
You just provided a good installation process, plus the calm and relaxed voice allows us to properly following your steps.
Thanks for your video!! My wife and I are newer homeowners. We have never replaced an over the stove microwave until now!! Great instruction 👍
Perfect timing on this video. Getting ready to install one of these to replace the traditional range top vent in the new house.
First time homeowner and these videos are very helpful. It’s nice to watch before you get started.
Outstanding video. I really appreciate how you show the difficult challenges that someone might run into - like the framing where you want the vent, and the tile under half of the bracket. I wish I had watched this before I paid a "pro" to do it. He didn't turn the blower to the back (for wall venting) and he didn't check the existing cutout in the wall to be sure it was big enough (it wasn't). After watching this video, I fixed everything myself.
Thank you for making this!
Just wanted to say thank you for the video. It helped me expedite my microwave installation by hours!!! Thank you!
Just installed one today in a house I'm flipping. Couldn't locate the studs so I installed 4 wall anchors with 2" lag screws, but my bracket was as big as the back of the microwave. Good video!!!
Yikes. I pity whoever purchased that house. When 60 pounds of microwave comes ripping through that wall.
... on second thought... the top anchors should do their job and hold most of the weight up. Let’s hope you didn’t cut corners with the cabinetry.
I have had contractors tell me I need to run a dedicated line for my existing microwave, two of them so far, so this video saved me a lot of money - Thanks so much. There are hardly anymore honest contractors left these days, most want to rip you off.
It's electrical code for microwave to have a dedicated circuit, the plug he was using would be a dedicated plug so effectively the microwave is on a dedicated circuit, which is how we typically wire new houses. FYI, dedicated circuits in your house: fridge, microwave, dishwasher, kitchenette, stove, dryer, washer, furnace, water heater, sump pump, outside plugs (GFI's). Also, 1 circuit per two 20A kitchen countertop plugs. You should probably listen to contractors over assuming things from youtube clips.
For a 40+ years DIY guy, I must say BRAVO!. An excellent description of the task and details for the novice installer. Thank you so much for your great video contribution to CZcams community. Great Job and many thanks. Now it is time to look for your other videos. I am hooked. :-)
Thank you! Please subscribe!
Great video and that cut-out template are very accurate! I'm just glad I found both the wall studs! The next step, later on, is running the all-new exhaust from the cabinet to the attic through the roof!
As a master craftsman and a perfectionist of 50 yrs, I commend you on your work! It's rare today to see someone do something right! Thank you for taking the time and sharing!
Every time I start a new project I check if you have a video for it! First the shed and now this! Great videos!!!
Thank you
Almost threw out the back wall template but after watching your video went out to trash container and recovered the back wall template. Also, had to read instructions to reposition the blower unit. Thanks for excellent review of installing microwave.
Thanks for the video. Just replaced my vent-a hood with a new microwave and it really helped to be able to watch you go through the process.
Thanks for this video being a single female that now owns a home and have to things myself I want to thank you for this video. I love the way you gave the info step by step and explained why. I also like that you explained the other options that you may be faced with when it came to the venting of the microwave. That's the first place I got lost so since I came to you to see how to take the old one down. I came back to see how to put up the new one. Thanks again for being through with your instructions,
You still SINGLE?
Great video, always enjoy them!
Videos like these teach us the nuances us amateurs dont have yet when doing these DIY projects. Good stuff!
Thanks for making this video. I've replaced lots of appliances, but never an overhead range microwave. Having a visual tutorial was reassuring before jumping into installation.
When drilling the holes in the shelf, drill a small pilot hole and then drill the larger one from the top down. It keeps you from splintering the inside of the cabinet where it might be seen.
Thank you we’re finally ready to install our microwave thanks for the tips I’m ready now lol
Thanks so much for this vid, the instructions that came with my microwave were just bad, too much info, too many options. Having you explain it made sense. I feel confident now.
Thanks Shannon! Have been watching your channel for a few years. I'll be doing a microwave like that, fridge with water/ice maker, and putting a dishwasher in our new house very soon. It doesn't currently have a dishwasher so I found your electrical/plumbing video for dishwashers really handy. I appreciate your very detailed style and you're also Canadian which helps a lot with relevant code etc. Thanks!!
That is awesome!

Thank You Buddy
I'm excited I'm ready to hook up my range right now thank you man. Great video great step by step. I like that you showed everything explained everything no jokes no music just teaching. I love it
Been following your video's for years Shannon! Thank you for all that you do and the content you share for all of us!
Wow, thank you!
Thanks, doing a similar installation and wanted to make sure I was headed in the right direction. Thank you
I just wanted to say thanks for posting this video! I was able to put up my new microwave alone with my girlfriend thanks to your video!

Great video. I appreciate that you get right to the point and only explain what's important. I've seen so many other videos where people ramble on about things that really don't matter about the task at hand. I'll be checking out your other videos.
Recently purchased my first home and got my hands dirty saving bucks getting it installed by the pros, been holding up and decided to thank you for the help!
The last kitchen cabinets I bought have those style hinges. I love them.

Well Done job!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽
i feel stupid that I've had my new microwave oven sitting on the counter for at least a year while i procrastinated over the install. thank you for the video which makes the install seem absurdly simple (like reading the instruction manual I guess)
Dude! Thanks for this helpful video.
Watching you saved me from having to have someone do it for me. Saved me over $300. Thank you!
This video is the perfect length - perfect amount of instruction - great camera work! Thank you!
Thx man i had the exact same issue of tiles I followed your steps and everything went well.
Thank you, very professional.
You are not only very good at what you do but I find you are a very good teacher.Whoever got to apprentice with you would have been a lucky person.I always found it was so much quicker just to do the work, but to properly explain and show someone, they would have been shortchanged on the explanation end.I had an excellent Master Carpenter, with many years of knowledge giving hands on teaching.I asked him one time, what do you want me doing..."Just watch what I do",what he didn't know was I always watched what he did whenever possible.Nothing like experience from those who did it best.Keep up what you are doing, this is the only channel I look for knowledge,THANKS (I could have posted this on any of your videos, not only this one).
Thank you Marty!
LOVE your videos... can't tell you how many I've watched over the past few years. Great directions. Wish I would have watched this before I installed it. :( blowing hot air into the house and now I know why.

Thank you, Shannon! This was exactly my new replacement install. You covered everything that I needed to know with the same tiles, to needing some 3/8 plywood to having to drill a new hole. The only thing I did not have to do was the top vent. It did take me much longer though even with reading the instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos were excellent, because of you I can get someone to help me remove and install a microwave over the range. I loved your details so now I know I’ll need to remove cabinet doors, a 1/4 inch x 30 inch plywood x 6 inches to meet the tile backsplash, a light drill, drill bit for hanging/screw, hole cutter for cord, spade bit to hang microwave from cabinet, screwdriver, stud finder, cardboard to slide microwave on countertop, scissors to cut templates and steps tool to get up and screw microwave into cabinet. I can do this with a strong helper. Ty

I love the big sign imprinted in the metal that he missed that says in large letters "BLOWER SCREWS" with arrows. 😂. Still a great video.
Appreciate you taking the time to explain the vent setup. The previous homeowner had an outside vent but it was vented inside. This is will really help out when we burn dinner. Thanks.
Thank you! This video really helped me, especially with the adjustment for the backsplash.
Nice man!!!
good job👍
both uninstalling and installing videos were superb. I was afraid to tackle this alone but you gave me the confidence to! Don't worry, wife will be near-by for any support :)
best video I have seen for microwave install. i also plan on using the strip of plywood due the width of the tile. watching you do it gives me a lot of confidence in the relatively simple install.
