- This is an exclusive first look at the worlds first fully autonomous reel mower. That's right a robotic reel mower that can be used for Golf or for your home. Having a Robo mower mowing straight lines is something very new, but the boys over at Hudson Star has been working on this for quite some time. I can't really figure out how this whole thing works, but the auto mower industry is getting bigger and bigger all the time. Why not have an electric reel mower that you never have to push, start up, or even here and make a noise? You can wake up every single morning to freshly cut reel mowed grass and never lift a finger.

Funny story, my grandfather had one of those Dille & Mcguire mowers when I was about 5. But it was so heavy and I was so small, that I could not push it thru the grass. So I would get a run on the sidewalk with it before I would ‘dive’ into the grass. Good times. Thanks JP! No Aprils fools joke either!

I bought a used Hudson Star and the first thing I did was send an email to Brian Hudson. He called me back and I sent the mower to him for a service where we are either going to fix everything up to standard or I am going to trade mine in on a new 8 blade mower. Brian is very easy to work with (zoom call).

When you do make the auto reel, try to get the V-reel Landpride first designed to have a spring loaded bedknife to pop through jam ups.
They sold the design to Bush Hog who obviously did nothing with it, Locke turf was supposed to have ended up with it.
They were bought by Ariens and I can find no pictures or evidence of it ever existing.
I did phone Bush Hog well before the turn of the century and they told me about it.
Originally it was in a Landpride brochure.

Looking for a battery operated reel mower with HOC up to 2".
What’s the benefit to reel mowing at that height?
@Lawncology the same benefit as any other height. A nice clean cut and eventually I can lower it as needed. It's my parents property that I have been restoring to the best in the neighborhood like it used to be when I was growing up.

Joke video or not, I've had the Fiskar StaySharp Max reel mower for about 6 years now. Oh my God, it is amazing. This mower looks to operate similarly, where the larger roller (or wheels in the case of the Fiskar) power the smaller cutting drum. This allows the blades to spin at a scary fast speed compared to the speed you push the mower. Very quite, fast and light. I never new how much I'd enjoy cutting my lawn until I got one. And my neighbors always ask about it 😄
Reel mowers are the best. I use this mower to cut down to 1/10” on my golf green
