  • Adventure Racing; the toughest endurance sport in the world. Wilderness Traverse is a 24 Hour Adventure Race hosted annually in Ontario, Canada. Teams of 3 or 4 navigate using map and compass over 150 kilometers of rugged Canadian Shield back-country on foot, mountain bike and canoe. It is one of the toughest team-based endurance challenges around, testing athletes on a grueling non-stop course that pits athletes against themselves and some of the most rigorous and stunning environments. Simply reaching the finish line is a massive achievement.
    This documentary chronicles the 2021 event from the perspective of team Race Day Race Rush and other racers. This is the race doc I've wanted to compile ever since I first raced WT. Call it a film years in the making...

    Really cool seeing this side of your adventures Brad. You looked in your element and no doubt your backcountry navigating skills paid off huge on a course like this. Would love to see more of this.

      I actually have an incomplete playlist of a bunch of adventure races from over the years. I filmed recaps for Get Out There Magazine, but nothing close to the size and scope of editing/filming for this one.

    Great documentary. That's some of the best in race footage i've seen yet. I also enjoyed seeing my team in that very last scene at the finish line.

      Thanks Dennis! Something a little different than the usual content but one of my other big outdoor passions I had been meaning to share with folks for quite some time. Love these events!

      Thanks a ton man! Always wanted to throw together an edit like this. Great seeing you there. Was a neat experience to both race and then chase teams.

    Wow, that's too much. I can't stand the heat & racing. I would rather go tripping.
    And to document the race while racing, that's dedication!

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, the heat was killer this time. We've been at this race during October and the opposite is true then... but I I'd rather run cold and layer up then hot and have nothing to control temps. Ever since I started racing over a decade ago I had a camera in hand on course. I think I've just got used to it being an integral part of my race reality lol.

    Looks rough . But a great test of one's abilities and stamina

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry

      A really good test. Mother nature will quickly humble you out there. No room for egos or overinflated skillsets. The highs and lows you experience on course keep you coming back for more.

      @ExploreTheBackcountry  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Andrea! The mental toughness is one of the reasons I love this sport so much. It humbles you and prepares you for so many other challenges that life will throw your way. It's a great way to surpass your own perceived limits and come out a stronger person.

    Super cool! Something to work up to attempting. Any smaller-scale adventure races in Ontario to start with?

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  Před 2 lety +1

      There's a good amount actually! Check out www.adventureracingontario.com/schedule for their schedule. Not all of them have all 3 disciplines, so you can work your way up. A few will have their final edition in 2022, so it's a good year to get into the sport.

    What would be the best advice for a rookie team participating in this race this year?

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  Před 2 lety +2

      100% stay positive, even if it grinds you down. You'll make mistakes, but don't let that frustration derail you. Lots of slower teams with positive attitudes can outshine and ultimately outpace faster, fitter teams that are not as cohesive.
