  • Part 2 of M96 - ideas for slowdown and extend the miss cycle, a look at the engineering and how quick and easy this great model engineer's 2cc hit and miss engine is to work on
Microcosm engineers do it again with a miniaturized version of a model engineers' favourite.
Model hit and miss engines are my speciality. In this review I look at the construction, themods and customizing you can do based on your suggestions from the comments section!
Fast forward to the 2024 and there are several big names in the Chinese desktop model engineering scene:
Microcosm, with literally dozens of very successful model, who single-handedly started the market by producing the first Chinese cheap hit and miss engine model. Microcosm is unmatched in the variety of models it produces and has always worked to improve quality. M96 is by Microcosm and shows their continued innovation.
Enjomor is another big manufacturer of steam, hot air and vacuum engines who also does a well-known hit and miss, and now multicylinder IC engines. Cison build semi scale v-twins, 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines.
MUSA ENGINEWORKS have been making a name for themselves in repro classic model engineering engines.

    Bonjour Thomas,
I envy your curiosity and your skillness because I wouldn't dare touching to any part of my engines as soon as they run.
It is already so difficult just to set correctly the carburation.
My M96 will remain as yours before enhancement...

Bonjour! I enjoy your channel. You are correct, the carburation is difficult> I hope you enjoy your model just as it is. And maybe you can take a risk when you are ready, My secret is...not everything I try works...I don't know what I'm doing!

Looking at your "before" and "after" I say you improved running quite a bit!
I have one on order, I hope to go a bit further, but i have a machine shop to use....that does not mean i Will get a better result, but i will give it a go! Thanks for the video

where did u get the track tractor ?

I ordered one and sent it back, after I learned it was a 4 cycle and not a 6!
Parts are even more intricate than the M90/ET1 range, so it definately wouldn't of suited me.
    Nice novelty engine though!

The latch on my M96 was backraked too, but not as badly as yours. I think they cut them from a piece that was the same width/too thick for the groove they cut in the valve rod and ground the wrong sides to make them fit.

I think if it was scaled up to 6cc size it would be great.

Does this run on gasoline, if so, is it mixed with oil? I have one similar to this and it runs on Ronsol lighter fuel. Do you think this would run on that too?

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  Před měsícem +1

Yes they run happily on lighter fuel and many modeller hobbyists recommend it for cleanliness, however as you do add two-stroke oil (40:1) you are adding stuff so maybe not so clean burning...we have alcohol-free petrol in NZ for now so I use pump gas, 95 octane plus two stroke oli

@@ThomasPCGuruENGINES sorry to be a pain, but would the lighter fuel need to have oil mixed or does it have enough lubricity already?

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES

      Definitely add oil
