An all-iPad session this time. A piano phrase is loaded into Borderlands Granular, which is scanning the sample and playing back 4 separate groups of grains: two are pitched up an octave, one is at constant pitch, and one is an octave down. These grains are fed through FabFilter Volcano filter, Imaginando K7D Tape Delay, FabFilter Pro-R2 Reverb, and a variety of other effects on channel 1 to add spaciousness and atmosphere.
The pre-delay and reverb sound of the Borderlands pianos are sent to a separate bus A, which is running Unfiltered Audio's LO FI AF and Chow DSP Tape simulator to give it a grungy, noisy, lo fi flavor. A few LFOs adjust the overall mix and filter cutoff on this channel.
Fugue Machine is sending 2 notes to Audiomodern Chordjam to trigger random chords in the key of F# Minor, which are then playing the string patch loaded in Decent Sampler on channel 3 (Dan Keen's "Soft String Spurs" library). The strings are sent through K7D tape delay and Velvet Machine reverb for extra spaciousness.
Finally, a field recording featuring overnight rain in my background provides the background atmosphere. The whole mix is summed on master bus B with FabFIlter Pro-Q EQ, Pro-C Compressor, and Pro-L Limiter.
There were a few hiccups with the frame rate and audio sync on my camera, so there are a few blips of choppiness.

Beyond the rain, in these sketches, a sort of nature is presenting itself. Your work breathes or moans like an animal limping or a sleeping star.

I love it... the iPad is an incredible device full of possibilities... endless! that's the good and the bad.
Controlling the possibilities and getting the focus, that's what makes you different.

every time i see a new AT post I am drawn towards it and feel really excited to hear what you going to perform. You really are testament to what is possible using just one device and a bunch of instruments and effects. I really enjoy watching the way you manage to play such peaceful passages of music. Thanks so much for going out of your way to explain the process and list of effects etc. Keep the videos coming :)

It is inspiring to see a musician as good as you are just using an iPad. I still favor an iPad supplemented now with some eurorack gear, but I always wondered if I really need anything more than an iPad and a Linnstrument, which I now have.

thanks so much! Yeah, it can do so much. Any time I feel tempted by some new piece of gear, I make I a point to sit with it for a while. Usually it will be able to replicate most of the things that tempt me.

@@andrewtasselmyer2436 this comment just added another setup screenshot to my gallery 😂 i really learn so much from watching you play and trying to understand your setups! Thank you so much! I was always afraid of everything connected to music as I never understood it or was frustrated or confused by how it was taught in school. With your workflow I can slowly get into it in a very playful way. This really means alot to me!🫶🏻
Edit: I found it🤓 Gavinsky mentioned it in a video 3 years ago🤩I remember! Thanks for the off to the right side hint👾
