You may never see this comment, but I am 43 years old. Until this video, I thought Hatfield did the la dada da parts. It still felt like a dystopian, I’ve-given-up lyric. And it helped me fight against that very feeling. Knowing the truth makes it all a little more beautiful to me.
That's such a beautiful part of the song, and I love that they got Marianne Faithfull to do it.
If you ever see them live, Het just lets the audience sing that part. He doesn't even try to do it justice, and it's a beautiful moment.
Thanks for commenting! I hope you've subbed and check out more of our stuff.
Let’s get Mike’d up‼️‼️‼️‼️
Heck yeah! We're were excited to have Mike do this with us!
If you want to see Metallica tell a truly dark tale without the harshness and get every ounce of point across.... "All Within My Hands" from the S&M 2 concert. Absolutely bone-chilling, with a symphony.
This was the song that introduced me to Marianne Faithfull. I was completely astonished when I heard her first single, “As Tears Go By” (written for her and later done by her mentors, The Rolling Stones) and heard that she used to had a beautifully clear, soprano voice. Drugs, drink and cigarettes can really trash your voice. But I think they really gave her voice an awesome sound… sort of like what drink and cigarettes did to Tom Waits’ voice.
I liked it. Mary Ann's la la la la does make you feel a certain way though lol.
Yeah, her voice and presence in this video is really striking. It makes sense why Het really wanted collaborate with her.
I love load and reload and most of st anger to be honest.
I'm with you on Load and Reload, but I've tried and tried St. Anger and just can't get into it. But I'm actually glad we have that album after watching Some Kind of Monster. They barely made it through that as a band, so the fact we have that album is a testament to their resilience.
Great analysis! The spinning ride and organ grinder are symbolic (to me) of how the entertainment industry grinds people up and spits them out when they’re no longer popular. In the movie, she loses her mind because she can’t accept it’s happened to her.
Thanks Flo! That's a great reading of it. That's what I was trying to get across in the reaction but old marble mouth Mark strikes again.
@@LikeMindedLunatics well, it’s lots tougher in front of a camera. If I were braver, I would be telling my stories and doing my thing in front of one.
I think the issue with fans disliking the album is because they expect it to be harder. If you ignore the fact that it's from a thrash band, and listen to it for what it is (which is more like alternative rock), it's actually a very good album. People just need to stop expecting bands to stick to one genre throughout their lifetime. If Metallica released a Country album it would probably still be awesome, and I'd probably still love it.
Marianne Faithful has lived the life of ten women.
I do have Muscrat Love, but in my opinion, that isn't their best song.
I am embarrassed to say I don't think I've ever heard that song. Maybe we should do a reaction of it.
No Mark. We shouldn't do a video reaction for Muscrat Love.
Wait, WHY?!?!
@@LikeMindedLunatics I used to have the song, because I had all their albums at one point, but while it was a really popular song, it was never one of my favorites. It's about 2 muskrats in love, and it's just odd.
It may be odd enough that you want to do it.
Let’s pause every 10 seconds….
Go to a different channel if you don't like it.
Yoooooo wtf been listening to Metallica for over a decade but had no idea this song went super layered deep wow
