- All about the Peperomia obtusifolia, aka the baby rubber plant! Peperomias are a huge family of plants, many of which make excellent houseplants. This video focuses mostly on the Peperomia obtusifolia and how easy of houseplant it is to care for. This houseplant likes low light, low water, and doesn't get very large which makes it an excellent houseplant for beginners. This is one of the easiest houseplants to grow in my opinion. Another great feature is that this is non toxic houseplant! It can be hard to find plants safe for children and houseplants safe for pets, but this plant has it all!

This was honestly such a perfect plant video, and told me everything I need for me two tubber babies! Finally ONE single video that touched on basically everything, for a specific plant whilst also not being 30 minutes long. More videos like this for sure!
I appreciate that! Thank you, Destiny! Usually my videos are way too long! Haha. Can be challenging to try and cover everything and keep things short without being boring and robotic in style. Thanks again and I hope you and your rubber babies are doing well! 😊
Yay great timing! I just got a small variegated one. It’s so cute
Awesome! Hope it brings you years of joy!
You will love it but pls dont give too much water. They love a drink every 10 days.
My goodness that was the clearest sharpest video I've ever seen on you tube in my life lol Excellent plant Info. I love it
Well thank you!
I completely agree! So useful
I
I have one of those green ones that turned variegated! It's mind boggling.
This was everything I needed in one video! Perfect for newbie plant moms like me. Thank you!
I just bought one of those. This video was very informative 🌿
Love all your videos :) Keep it up!
That’s the kind of plant info that’s helpful! TYSM.
Thanks for the video. These guys are great. My teardrop peperomia does tend to get leggy. It's right in an east window and still stretches for the light, so I'd say it's more of a high light plant than some other peperomias. It does readily branch out with pruning though, so that's really nice :) Then my obtusifolia is so forgiving. I tried it in a north window, but hadn't considered the drafty air vent nearby. I watered it too much one day and that low light environment + the drafty window AND the extra water was a recipe for disaster. The poor thing lost 1/3 of it's leaves by the time I went back to the room to check on it. I moved it to my bright east window (about 4 ft away), and in a day or two it had new leaves come in to replace each one that had been lost. Both varieties are such a delight :)
Absolutely fabulous, very informative & straight to the point. Wonderful video thank you💖💖💖💖
Oh I was so happy when I seen this video. I just got one,of these a few days ago. Fell in love, never seen one before around me. I got the variegated one. Sounds pretty easy to take care of. Thanks for the tips , I haven't looked her up yet. Didn't know it was in the rubber tree family. Very 😎. Thanks Jeff💖✌
super fun and easy! I hope you have yours for many years! Thank you! Oh, they aren't in the rubber tree family, they just are commonly called, "baby rubber trees" just based on their appearance.
Perfect video. Plenty of information.
Thank you!!!
I have a very tiny Baby Rubber Plant (Peperomia obtusifolia). It's in a 2" pot. It is o cute! Thank you for the great info on these plants.
beautiful plants. thank you very much for sharing your care tips. God Bless 👍💖😘
Perfect.. I just got mine today❤️❤️🌿🌿
This was fun to watch and informational! Loved it.
Well thank you so much!
You keep your audience interested throughout your program, kudos.
Thank you!
Thanks for the video! Just got one of these at IKEA last weekend. So I appreciate a care video!
Love peperomias! Thanks for all the great info on them!
They are fun plants! Thank you!
One of the best videos I’ve watched on plant care! Good job! Please do more videos on common house plants. I just bought both of these as gifts for my Mom and I know want one of each too. You’ve covered everything I needed to know and share with my Mom! Thank you so much ☺️
Thank you, Sheila! They are fun plants that you both will have for a long time 😊
Thanks for sharing I just brought one the other day.Looking forward to next project you have.
Thank you, Tameka! Sitting down right now to start something fun!
Perfecting.... just bought 3 of these last night to go over my kitchen sink... good info!!
Oh I bet that looks beautiful!
I love these plants! Thanks for the tips!
they are great plants! Thank you, Sherry!
Wow. Literally the exact opposite care instructions from the last video! Lolol! Good thing my peperomia is doing pretty well. Just trying to identify mine (it's the light green variegated one) Great info about the cupping deal.
Hello nice video, I just got one yesterday a virgated . thanks 👍🏾🙌🏾🙋🏽😀
New subscriber here! So glad I found this video because I've had this plant for a few months but could not figure out exactly what is was! So thankful I stumbled on your channel! Very informative & helpful info on my peperomia! Thanks so much! Can't wait to watch more of your videos & follow you on IG. Take Care! 🙂
Hi Kelly! I'm glad to have helped! Thank you!
Very helpful thank u!💗
the deep green and sparkly ones look sooo delicious I could eat them up haha
Your video is very helpful thanks 👍
🌿😎🌿 cool
Thanks for sharing, watching fr. Philippines.
When I propagated the leaves of my variegated one, they rooted great but the new leaves from them were solid green, no variegation. When I propagated by stem cutting, the variegation was retained. No problem for me, now I have two different kinds..
I believe the only difference is how much light it has. The lower the light the less variegation.
New subscriber! Thank you so much for this video. Excellent information!!!🌿💚 Thank you so much♡
Hi Debbie! Thank you so much!
I just love the varigated one. I have both, but anything that looks like it has a leaf inside a leaf is so cool. ❤🌱
Well said!
I like peperomias! I have a few and I'm hoping to get more. 😊
I love watching your videos 💕
Thank you!
I just ordered one. I'm so excited.
Awesome! They are fun and sturdy plants!
Very good video. Thanks!
thank you!
Thanks for the info! I keep seeing them at Lowe's and I'm so drawn to them! I'm thinking of using one in my living wedding bouquet!
Oh that would be gorgeous!... and you can easily drop the cuttings from the bouquet into some soil and have them grow for you as a houseplant. How sweet! I love when plants can have sentimental value!
The genius in that idea.
I have two, they’re probably my favorite plant. They put off leaves like crazy!
They are excellent!
Thanks! Just got one, thought it was a type of succulent
Great video. Thanks! I have mine under grow lights. I guess I dont need the grow light. How do I pinch them to make them bushier? Do I just pull any leaf?
Yes they are👍😘
Thanks for the tips 🙌🏻
Great vid!! I bought a plant that looks like the variegated one but I thought it was a Hoya....it has some pink but so does yours on the stem....the plant had no tags and I scooped it up for $1 😊
This channel is bloody brilliant! So informative and your personality is so likeable!
😂🤣 thank you so much!
I put the obtuse and the ginny in a pot together ❤ .. they're getting along great!
*touches the pot to move it and a leaf falls off* ahh yes classic sign of being similar to a succulent 😅
I just bought one today from lowes and pull it out to see how the soil was looking and it was soaked..I pulled some of that soil away and added some dryer soil..I hope it does well.
Thank you.
Hi! Loved the video. I currently have a Pepperomia obtusifolia that's about three years old and its primary stem is measuring out at about 27in (68cm). Is this . . . a problem? Why is it so large? Like obviously my plant's happy I just don't understand why one stem has decided to reach for my ceiling while the other stems just kinda . . . chill. Anywho thanks for all the advice!
My Peperomia has lots of slugs. I'm gonna repot them tomorrow.
i think your "red edge" has the wrong tag on it. I have a red edge and it's a darker green with a faint maroon edge on the leaves. I think that one is just a normal green/not variegated obtusifolia
I was wondering the same actually. Thank you for letting me know, I'll look into it further. 😊
i just googled and i agree. the clausiifolia has a pointed tip too
I've noticed Costa Farms / Exotic Angel plants are often mislabeled!
Hi, may I ask you how to deal with splitting leaves? My variegated Peperomia obtusifolia is having brown edge and that look like a scar. Some look the same as the one you have. Is it because of lack of water? I always mist the leaves.
I have the one you have in the video and I’m wondering what type of soil mix they need. Thanks!
whoa i'm glad i watched this video because it turns out that my peperomia, which was labeled Obtusifolia Veriegata, is actually a Teardrop Peperomia
Thanks for the content..so informative. I’m stunned when i see you tubers that have picked up such healthy and full 🌱 at big boxes..i have several pepps from some local nurseries and they were pricey and half the size / general growth of those. Why is that?
Because you're getting yours at local nurseries, where there's much more care put into their plants and not as much space, usually.
I've had GREAT luck at local "Produce Junctions" and even Walmart. Just last week, I found a beautiful aglaonema / Chinese Evergreen at my local Walmart and it was on clearance for $5. I took it home, cut off a few brown leaves, gave it some good water and some decent lighting and she's thriving! Lmk if you find anything good at those type places. 😁😁
Great, super helpful!
Thanks, Daniel!
I usually water my plant like that once a week, from the bottom. I've had it since Feb. And have had no problems. It has 3 shoots. Today I noticed that one if the "stems" had leaves that were shriveled like it had too much water, sorta like it was rotting. The rest of the plant looks fine. Any suggestions?
Hi! Your video was very informative. Mine are the same variety. The leaves are turning or twisting for some reason. Can you tell me why?
Thanks for the information......I have one of these and a jelly one, but maybe I have in too much light as the jelly leaves have dark red edges and stems but I have in an east window, and since spring is coming the sun is starting to shine. I also was not a peperomia kind of person, but as time goes by and |i see more people on here with peperomias makes me want more for myself. Where I live though its very limited buying!!!
Their are so many varieties but around here the obtusifolia is the most common. The jelly ones are really cool!
@@TropicalPlantParty obtusifolia is whats around here too. I know there are many kinds but where I live can't find anything. We only have a Wal-Mart that sells plants and three grocery stores that each have a small small section. This is where I found my pilea peperomiodes though. In the spring the garden center open up but we have no nurseries to speak of. If I travel one hour away I will find some nurseries...but I don't go too often
Pepperonia grew on me. I see them a lot. Great channel👍👍
They have been growing on me lately out of nowhere. I used to think they were kind of boring, but I'm liking the ease (with the drought tolerant varities) and that I don't have to worry about my pets eating them.
My pepperomia obtusifolia has stopped growing. The new buds dried up and they never grew back again. I repotted it 2x already and I’m thinking I used a wrong or non well drainig soil for it. Should I repot it again and use a well draining soil? I’m thinking of propagating using the leaves but I dont have much luck in plant propagation yet because I am just a plant beginner. Waiting for your advise. Thanksomuch for your videos!
Is it normal for them to have the little brown dots on them? Mine had it since I got it and I saw yours had it too and I wanted to know if it was something I had to worry about
I got one of these guys at lowes yesterday and the soil is absolutely SOAKED. Should I wait and see if it dries up or should I repot with fresh soil? Don’t want it to rot!!
Helpful video! I was able to find a watermelon peperomia at my Sams club last week and that price was fantastic! Hoping I’ll be able to find a baby rubber plant soon
I got the big variegated ones at sams! .. I may have said that in the video, been a few months so I don't remember. Hope you find your baby rubber plant soon!
Tropical Plant Party you did! You’re the reason I went there looking for plants 😂
Tropical Plant Party they were out of almost everything when I went (including the baby rubber plants) but I’ll keep checking.
It's so random when they get the plants in. Last week mine had giant monsteras which is something I never would expect to see there.
Tropical Plant Party WOW I’m really about to be in Sams club every week looking for plants 😂
Hey! Love your video! I would like to know if you could help me... my Peperomia Obtusifolia variegata is losing her leaves and but they are not rotten nor saggy... the soil is not wet but humid, and it is not sitting in water. Also, it is not in direct sunlight... but the leaves just fall out at the touch and I am concern as I am down to 3 leaves :(... can you please help?
I have one that has large leaves and keeps dropping them. It is very sparse now. Just a month ago it was growing new leaves like crazy now it's dropping them off. I repotted today in hopes it just needs some love.
Could I fertilize with banana water (soaking banana peels in Water) or molasses and water?
Great video on the baby rubber plant Peperomia Obtusifolia, thank you. I have one of these beautiful indoor plants that has grown to about 21" high that I had to support it . Are these plants need to be supported to prevent them from breaking ? The plant is still in the small original pot when bought from the nurseries. I intend to transplant this plant to a larger pot but I'm lost as to what pot size to choose. As to the height of this plant, can I cut this plant about half way without killing it and propagate ? Any of your videos show as to how to propagate a tall plant and from where to cut ? Your video taught me a lot about this plant, thank you.
I have the same issue. Very tall skinny plant.
I have a variegata that has a long stem. If I cut it, will it grow new leaves from that stem? I need to propagate it, it’s a single stem and growing very well right now.
I see your plants have brown spots on the back of the leaves is this the same brown spots as on the top of the leave? Mine has a hard brown little raised spots on the back also? Thanks
I put my plant inside a decorative pot , is that keeping them from getting oxogen from the bottom
What kind of soil would you recommend ? Is cacti okay ?
So how do you deal with the calcium/magnesium deficiency? Mine has those jagged leaves, which I thought were just damage from the store at first, but the new growth has weird things going on too. Jagged leaves and some curling. I've been scouring the internet for info on this so was excited to at least hear someone mention it!
Hello! There's a fertilizer called. CalMag that works well and also most tomato fertilizers have a good amount of calcium in them. 😁
I got one last year and it is doing great except the white is turning a dark yellow green. I hope it's not regressing. Any ideas? Thanks for the vids, I wish you would include yourself sometimes. 🤗
I was doing really well with this plant and just recently I noticed some leaves turned black and the baby ones died. My guess is I over watered it. I tried to save it so I put it in water but it quickly wilted and turned black.
Hello! Just bought my peperomia obtusifolia (variegated) and I noticed that there are rough bumps at the undersides of the leaves. Are they normal?
Good vid nice voice!
Thank you so much!
My peperomia plant is in a pot with no holes, how often would you recommend me watering my plant?
Mine is on top of my fridge. I was just wondering how big it will get.
Love the video! Does anyone know how long a variegated peperomia obtusifolia last for???!!! I need to know their lifespan! Please🙏🏼
I’ve had a lemon lime obtusifolia for over 10 years
Tara Neal thank u so much!!😭❤️
🎙😃hermosa
do you know if the marble coloured indoor peperomia plants edible?
Thanks for sharing, is another name called Peperomia (Radiator) plant?
Do you have any videos on rubber tree plant?
This plant was suggested by Hermit Crab Association. I'm thinking about using for my tank. I was wondering how it would due in Eco Earth Coconut Fiber Substrate.
Leave it in its pot and plant it in the substrate. I wish I knew about this plant when I had hermies!
If the leaves darken, do they lack water? I wait until is completely dry!😢
Hi! I just got an peperomia obstusifolia but it came in a pot with some other plants (ivy and a pink polka dot). While it all looks so incredibly lovely together I don’t believe that my peperomia is doing to well with the other two. Do you think I should repot is separately or is there a way I can keep them all together? I know you probs busy but would love if you could give me advice! Thank youuuuuu!!!
Hello! That sounds like a lovely plant arrangement! You're probably right about separating them though, the peperomia obtusifolia really doesn't need the same watering as the polka dot plant and ivy will.
Today I just bought three varieties of Peperomia . I will be potting one up a bit larger as roots are coming out the bottom of the pot. My first experience with them. Thanks for the tips.
They are lovely plants!
I just brought two last week
awesome! They are so fun and easy!
I have the verigated one! Never knew the name so thanks!
awesome! You're very welcome!
its a rubber plant? I always wanted to get my hands on a rubber plant, didn't know what it was until I looked up the name of it on the website from the greenhouse I bought it from. Well I got my wish after all. It wasn't labeled when I bought it. I just thought it looked neat.
golden genua :o
Are they watered when 2 inches of the soil is dry or completely dry?😢
Why do mine have some yellow spots on the leaves yet i never put them directly in the sun thnks
I had gnats really bad, I repotted them twice but now it appears to be dying, the edges of the leaves are brown, what can I do?
What if the edges are sort of red? I just got one for Mothers Day and the edges of the leaves are red.
Have you noticed a maple syrup scent from your pep obtusifolia variegata?
i repotted mine into three pots, two survived and the third one's leaves are droopy , how do i fix that ?
Mine are growing really tall but not bushy. Idk how to fix it 😩
Hi...I have this yellow variety of peperomia which is shedding leaves one after another. Please help.
