THIS IS ALL ABOUT PROPAGATING A PEPEROMIA OBTUSIFOLIA IN WATER - MY FAVORITE METHOD.
I love the Baby Rubber Plant not only for its ease of maintenance but also for those dark, glossy green leaves.
Peperomias, which are available to you in a wide range of variegations & leaf shapes & sizes, make excellent & easy care houseplants. Most of them have glossy foliage; so why wouldn’t we want more of them? I have 2 in my guest bathroom & 1, a Peperomia obtusifolia or Baby Rubber Plant, was taking up too much real estate so on with the pruning.
Baby Rubber Plants respond very well to pruning. I’ve cut 1 back to 5″ tall & it came back just fine. This time I took about 10″ of stems off. My new plant that’ll result from these cuttings will have a good start in life. I have a favorite way of propagating these plants (in my opinion it’s the easiest!) which I share with you in this video. - Jak na to + styl
Thank you! I got my first peperomia recently because the plant I ordered got mixed up and I received the wrong one. It's an obtusifolia like you have. And I was really wondering how to take care of it and prune it. You clipped most of it where we can't see what you're doing, but it seems quite obvious. I feel confident to keep my unexpected plant happy and healthy and in a size that fits :)
Thanks for showing me another plant that I didn’t know I need. 🤣
Definitely a yes from me on a follow up video on planting the cuttings, please.
Love your videos to bits ❤️
Hi Cathy - Baby Rubber Plants are such easy houseplants & handle the dry air in our homes just fine. The cuttings are rooting beautifully - planting video coming up soon! Nell
Thank you! I didn't know what plant I had until I saw your video. Also, it has grown so tall and I was using a stick to prop it up. Now I see it likes to droop some I will prune and hopefully grow more of this wonderful plant!
Thank you for the great clear shots. I feel much more confident giving mine a trim now ☺️
Thank you so much for your video! I pruned my super leggy Golden Gate Pepperomia while watching and got several good pieces to propagate!
watching this video made my whole day! you're adorable and put me in a good mood :)
i've had a baby rubber plant for almost a year now, but never bothered to care for it properly until today!
Thank you for this, I'm watching in preparation of my p. obtusifolia getting its first pruning. Also, love your top!
O noooo I was crying with every cut, I thought it was a magnificent plant before, but I am just a beginner and I am sure you knew what you were doing
😂
don't fret. it will get even more branches because of the pruning and all of the clips will become new plants!
Nell is underrated I legit needed a fully informed video about this specific plant💚💚💚💚💚💚
I have three variegated peperomia obtusifolia! I love them!
Many thanks for your demonstration of propagation. I will finally trim mine and give few offsprings to friends :)
Very interesting and useful - thank you! I just bought 2 peperomia obtusifolia plants and headed straight for your channel for their care and feeding. And yes - please do a video on planting the cuttings.
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plans have a blessed day
Love your videos, they are interesting and helpful!
Thank you! This was really helpful 🌱🧡
i love your videos! keep it up!! you’re awesome. 🫶🏻 much love.
Oh my goodness, I think I remember when you repotted this plant. It must be happy in its new digs!
Yes Donna, I repotted it not too long ago. It's very happy & thrives even here in the desert! Nell
Wow such a helpful video! Thanks!

I love nature
Be plants in pots or in garden I just like plants
Rubber plants look amazing planted indoors
TnQ for this beautiful upload 👍🏻
Yes, I love nature too. That's why I film the majority of my videos outdoors. Rubber Plants grow to be very big & beautiful outdoors. These Baby Rubber Plants don't get too much tall than 14". Nell
Thank you I have a rather large one. I purchased them at costco and it has grown. Not sure if it is deseased because there was a leafe that had dead brown edge and a few have some spots.
Thank you 🙏
Thank you!! I was doing a search on plants/succulents ets for purchase and growing and of course some cuttings. Have subscribed and look forward to watching your other videos and any upcoming. Happy planting from Denver CO
Hi Marcella - I have quite a few family members in the Denver area. This plant is so easy to grow from cuttings. Thank you for watching & also for the subscribe! Nell
I love your channel! Yes, my indoor garden is doing very well.
I love that you watch my videos! My indoor garden is just as special as my outdoor garden. Tickled to hear yours is doing well. Nell
Oh its so nice
Where do you cut it at on the stem ?? Above the nodule or below ?? You didn't show that , you just started cutting but never mentioned where on the stem.
New subscriber so happy thank you
My plant was doing great for about six months and no it is dropped “heathy looking” leaves all the time. I reviewed how to propagate the fall out but how to I keep the mother plant from keeping the rest of its leaves?
Thank you
Thanks for this helpful video! 😍 Can I do this in the middle of summer? And when do I need to change the soil?
Hi Nell I love your videos. Can you make a video on how to care for Baby Rubber Plants. Thank.
About to trim mine and try rooting for the first time! Wish me luck :)
I thoroughly enjoyed your video and, yes, I would love to see how you plant the clippings when they're ready because I struggle terribly when I plant multiple rooted clippings. They are so unruly, so I'd like to see how you do it. And as others have mentioned, I now have another plant added to my (extremely long) wish list.
Hi Dori - Thank you! I have quite a few plants on my wish list but I need more room - time for plant stands. Oh yes, I'll film the cuttings planting video & show you how I plant the somewhat twisted cuttings. It can be a challenge to plant them! Nell
I wished you said where you pruned your plant!
You are extra glowy in this video! Love your hair like that.
So glad to have seen this video!! My peperomia is gorgeous but flopping all over because too tall. I didn’t realize I needed to cut back. Thanks so much. By the way your shirt is gorgeous. Is it Boden? Looks similar to their prints. 😊🌱
Please suggest best fertilizer for pepromia..I have bought plant from nursery 1 month ago but no new leaf coming out. I'm very upset. Hoping you ll help me.
Can you show how you prepare the soil.
Can you add the rooted trimmings into your current plant if it’s smaller to build it out??
I have a few questions, sorry in advance:
When you take stem cuttings from the plant, what happens to that cut spot on the original plant? Does it just scab over and it's done, or will it start to grow new leaves?
Can you eventually grow a whole new baby rubber plant from leaf cuttings? Or will the less cutting just grow roots and stay just a single leaf?
Last, do you have a recommended rooting hormone?
Thank you!
L.P Dali ova peperomija cvijeta . Hvala
Hi, Can you use ''Fox Farm's Salamander soil '' for the baby rubber plant?
Looks like a very happy plant.... I just bought worm castings could I use them on my succulent plants?
It is a vey happy plant! Oh yes, succulents love worm castings & I've been top dressing mine for spring. Here's this post & video in case you missed it: www.joyusgarden.com/compost-for-houseplants/ Nell
I have a p. obtusifolia that did very well for a couple years but recently some of the stems died and the one surviving stem dropped all but 4 leave. It seems to be stable again but is not producing any new growth and I don't know what to do for it. Any thoughts or tips?
“ squeals” I have that plant!!
Don't you just love it Heather?! Nell
Is it ok to cut while a new leaf is growing? I want to propagate it.
How do you decide whether to grow
Can you make multiple plants from one vine?
Why new leaf grow much smaller? Can can be done?
Ahhh I hope you can help me. I have a Variegated Peperomia-Obtusifolia and it lost most of its leaves. However! I have it growing strong. My question is- how do I promote leaf growth? The parts on the stem where the leaves fell off are all calloused. Surprisingly, one of them is sprouting a leaf. Is there anything I can do to the rest of these calloused areas to prompt a leaf to grow? I have 2 stems in a pot- 1 has 2 leaves and the other has one leaf. Hahaha. But they’re strong!
I love my peperomia plant but I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong. It doesn't grow out only up.... Any thoughts?
Mine does that too, how old is it? Most of them grow up before they grow out I think
@@mja5543 over a year old now. :)
❤
Hi, this is an impossible plant that lives for me, I don't know. What I do
That was great! I have a large one I started from a leaf several years ago. And I’ve always called it a jade plant?? I didn’t know about the pruning. I need to do that. I have it propped up all around. Will it branch where you prune? Thanks!
Hi Laura - It looks a bit similar to a Jade Plant but the stems don't get nearly as big & as heavy. And yes, it'll produce side growth where you prune it. I'll show that when I film the cuttings planting video. Nell
Thanks, Nell! Time to start snipping:)
Hey Laura can you please tell me how you did the plant propogation
Mina M Hi Mina,
It’s been years ago, but I believe it went something like this:
1. Make a clean cut of a leaf off the main stem.
2. Dip in rooting compound.
3. Put leaf into damp potting mix in small container then cover loosely (tent) with plastic to form a mini-greenhouse. Keep moist, but not overly wet.
You will eventually see a new leaf growing at the base of the leaf you propagated:)
Good luck!
Laura Baker thank you so much! I am new to this propagation stuff but I love to learn! 😊😊
What is age of the 1st peperomia plant?
I have a peperomia question and after watching several CZcams presenters I've found that you have a very sound knowledge of the "Dwarf Rubber Plant." So, I'm hoping you or possibly even a subscriber of yours might have an answer for me?
You see I have two different Peperomia obtusifolia plants. One (Linus) has solid dark green foliage and the other (Charlie) has marbled leaves of yellow and green. They are both very healthy plants and are of some considerable sentimental value to me. My question is this. Can I propagate and then repot the rooted clippings from both plants in the same vessel to have a mixture of the two different foliages in one pot? I intend to propagate several offspring from these two plants. They are very healthy and take up a lot of real estate already so they need to be readily pruned. But I know that some plants exude chemical defenses against others that might invade their territory and I don't want to pit the two lineages against one another.
So I'm hoping you may help me to avoid unnecessary obtusifolia-cide next Spring. Thanks much! ☺️
Please home tour🙏
I bout a varigated peparomia obtusifolia cuttings from moutian Crest gardens but the soil stayed too dry during propagation and when I finally put them in regular soil they came right to life. during this process however my plants varigation began to fade. I recently moved them to a morning sun location in Hope's to recover the varigation. do you think the varigation will come back?
Hi Angel - In general, plants lose variegation when the light levels are too low & revert to solid green. My Variegated Baby Rubber Plant is under a skylight & has much more variegation on the top. The new growth will come out variegated & the older most likely will not show as much variegation. Nell
@@JoyUsGarden thank you so much nell!
Hi do u have an email tht i can send u a few pic to? I have this plant that i got from an elderly friend and it was her grandmother's! I can't find a pic of it anywhere! Maybe you can help me identify it?
Altyazı kullansaydınız anlamıyor sadece seyrediyorum
Is it edible???
it would have been more helpful if you told us what to look for to prune correctly.
