Gua Gua (Darwin’s knockoff) got renamed to Ribbit in “The Knockoffs”, which I find kinda clever, since “guagua” iirc in Chinese is an onomatopoeia for the sound a frog makes, like “ribbit”. Kiki got renamed to Chi Chi though, and I’m not sure why.
Because the name was phonetically spelled “QiQi”(if you referred to the direct Chinese phonetic translation), but pronounced as “Chi-Chi”. The “Kiki” happened because Saber butchered the transcription(or just good old transcription error idk)
I immediately thought of the panel of OG Dragonball where Roshi references Chi-Chi's Name beikg the Japanese term meaning breasts and I still can see it tbh

One thing I liked about Gumball was how it bridged the gap between one-off episodes and and over arching stories, like how Tina eased up a little to Gumball and Darwin in later episodes after the one where they finally got to know each other a bit more and made up for rivalries they had in the past, just to name one example. That direction with how the show's episodes were structured and plotted out really lend itself to the overall Advent-Garde style Gumball was known for.
Yes!! Or Penny and her shell episodes, and the ghost girl (Carrie?) with her crush in Darwin

I worked on a Chinese show, back in 2015. The way you went around the brother sister thing is by making them twins. You were allowed to keep your twins during the one child policy. Which in 2015 when I worked on Sibe, I think in cities was relaxed. Our show was set in the 90s Shanghai so that was why we had to resort to that.
What about other multiple births? Surely those were okay, too. 😊😅
I think you forgot one very important thing about why Warner didn't bother to sue them. You might be right with what you said about it not being worth the effort but I'm sure there is a even bigger and more important reason. The chinese market is HUGE when it comes to movie theater releases and the chinese government probably told Warner they could no longer show their movies in China if they want compensation for the Gumball rip-off.

I remember that one and the one about video game rpgs were my faviorite, it just makes it better knowing how.
Man, I guess the ripoffs are there just to get mocked on; still, there should be laws against ripping off major shows/movies
Can we talk about the clever shots against the little panda fighter in the episode? Gumball actually roasted that one too, when Gumball was complaining about having a bunch of bootleg ripoff stuff.
Wait, Gumball had a Tiananmen Square joke?! I gotta see that episode! Also that might be why there was a rip-off because knowing China, the original was probably banned for that.
Also you know what made Gumball great? It used the overused trope of the responsible mother and bumbling father to a great effect. Nicole wasn’t flat and was given a temper problem and Richard’s stupidity wasn’t often that of a jerk and hilariously there were cases where he was the reasonable one such as the episode when Nicole tried to get revenge on Simian. She told him to get out of the car window for a piece of paper and he was like “seriously?” He only did so because he was smart enough to know how dangerous pissing her off is lol.
The episode with the tiananmen square joke is "the fraud(s3)", there's also a really funny (but also kinda cringe) scene in the same ep where brown was trying to communicate with the kids by using "gen z slang" and failing in the worst way imaginable
Technically she is flat unlike chichi's mother
Note: this isn't about "US jurisdiction," and US being "the big player." Almost all major nations have international laws where they point out and respect the copyrights and patents of people from other nations. China just doesn't care.

As a Gen Z’er, “Phineas and Ferb” and Gumball are the two biggest nostalgic shows for me. I’m a Gen Z too, I used to watch a lot of shows during that time growing up, including Gumball. I wish the creators from Amazing World of Gumball could sue them; however, it’s a complicated process to file a copyright infringement lawsuit internationally. Overall, it was a hilarious episode the way creators fireback at them.
What's the point?
Also, it's in China, so outside US jurisdiction.
@mr nobody Huh, what do you know?
Chinese courts don't uphold international copyrights, even then, as much as it's a shameless ripoff, it's still different enough that it wouldn't count as infringement in the US either. The copied the style and tone, but the characters are different.
Well the show was Bri’ish.
You know two of those episodes you mentioned seem like either direct ripoffs or heavily “inspired” by episodes of gumball. Like the food contest one feels really close to the the episode where gumball lets the ghost character use his body so she can try food again (mainly the stomach demon things at the end), and the dvd breaking one is literally a ripoff of the pilot episode where gumball and Darwin destroy a rental DVD, and try several things to get away with it one way being recreating the movie they destroyed.

You also forgot that Cartoon Network had to ask Miracle Star to make sure that, ironically enough, the Chinese company wouldn't sue Bocquelet for copyright infringement.
What?
@@deviantartguy0 I'm assuming they meant that for CN to be able to make an episode of TAWOG calling out Miracle Star, CN had to contact the creators of Miracle Star so they don't sue CN.
@@Jaeeden Pretty sure they didn't. This seems like a spiteful shot back, that would've happened with or without consent.
There's no proof of this.
Do you think the laws only work one way or something? If we as North Americans couldn’t dispute American copyright against a Chinese company stealing our IPs, why could China be allowed to do the exact same thing?
I remember Gumball also did use a scene from Little Panda Fighter in an episode where they realise they're too poor to afford the proper versions of things and could only afford bootlegs, such as the "Game Child". (Also, I'm pretty sure they referred to it as "How To Ratatoing Your Panda" in the episode.)
They basically bring both ratatoing and little panda fighter character model as their own animation(the panda farting to the mice is not in the movie),also both of the studio who made these cannot sue CN mainly they're knew they're poor and even it worked,it wouldn't take long that movies they made are rip offs
The so-called clips of "Little Panda Fighter" that he "displayed" in this episode are actually those exact clips from that Gumball episode that you're referring to which makes it even funnier
i love that they referenced not only little panda fighter but ratatoing as well (while also probably using the 'how to train your dragon' title format as well to add to the joke)

I believe Gumball was originally pitched to Adult Swim and the plot was about rejected cartoon characters.
The creator actually said that he never wanted to pitch it to Adult Swim but I did think he said he wanted to make a show for Adult Swim
That actually sounds like a really fun show. If Ben bocquelet ever wanted to do another show like gumball (which seems like it was really fun to work on) he could use that original pitch to create a spiritual sequel. With the limits of age restrictions out of the way, I’m sure there’s a lot of potential for chaos.

The Eater food one is based loosely around Darwins girlfriend (she wasn't yet at the time it was made) taking over Gumballs body to eat since, well, she's a ghost, and possessing someone was the only way she could eat, and she made him eat till he was obese.
The musical one is also where Darwin was actually an amazing musician, and again, Gumball was also bad in it too.
The movie disk one is when they had to essentially return a rented movie they got but ruined it, and tried to fake it and return it later.
Her name's "Carrie", and they also ripped off the episode with Gumball's brain, but with Kiki's stomach.
Its also feels like they ripped off "Evil food eater conchita" a song that has no connection to gumball whatsoever. In the song, the lead goes on gluttony rampage to eat everything that ever exists, to the point where she ended up eating herself

I love how he doesn’t add any special effects, he just says *O R I G I N*
Back when my sister and I first saw this episode on CN, we were a bit horrified, not understanding the ominous title or the plot. It just seemed like Gumball and his family became bloodthirsty fiends trying to abuse and murder mysterious sociopathic copies of themselves that seemingly appeared out of nowhere, then the episode abruptly ended without any explanation. The absence of a doppelganger Anais was probably what unsettled us the most. All the other main characters have their copies, but not Anais? ...Did something happen to her?
But knowing the context now puts our hearts at ease. I might sleep tonight without crippling paranoia.
Dang, that sounds like a horror movie😭
To be fair, a lot of episodes end on a cryptic/dark note without proper context. Part of the meta humor I think.
In this case I think they might've just had too much material for the runtime of the show. Can really tell the animators and writers have a lot of fun with the creative process.
Ah, the children's Us
What are you talking about? That episode I thought was funny as hell
@@autumnrose9655 cuz it is, called Us
The first time i watched this episode of Gumball i understode the main point that there were some copycats but after wayching this it makes the episode EVEN BETTER
Gumball is a treasure and I hope the kids who saw it seek it out for their children in the future.
The fact that the original show's creators absolutely made fun of the ripoff made me smile and laugh.
Me too, it's a celebration that Miracle Star was over.
Not a huge fan of gumball but always liked the art style since when it first came out was when cartoons where slowly starting to look alike in a cookie cutter way. Really smart of the artists and writes to fight back I had my art stolen online before so always respect that .
That recorder solo brings back memories.
I like how in the Gumball episode poking fun of Miracle, they didn't give the mother boobs
The designs in miracle star are actually pretty cute. Like the Gumball clone is nice to look at and I think they could have had a great show if they… made their own show. Not a copycat ad.
Also the Gumball episode taking the chance to switch voice actors right at the end was incredible. Perfect,
Ngl, I was such an unobservant kid that I didn't realise they switched voice actors, and I completely missed the joke of them saying "we're irreplaceable". Now I freaking love it, and the two other switches were also genius.
i agree

Okay but gumball pointing out his sisters absence is just hilarious, especially for the reason
WOMEN HAVE NO RIGHTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PEOPLE
4:22 "Wipe my shiny metal ass" lol 😂🤣😆
💀
Remember in that episode of gumball called the copycat
This is what it exactly what happened.......
My favorite moment in the series was the epic car chase the family had WITH NO CARS. It's the episode where they get a check from grandpa. The scene was so creative and wild, I laughed to tears XD
Imagination power is real
The only big difference we all know about these two shows
Gumball: A cartoon sitcom that has chaotic writing and is lovable by all for its humor and satire
Miracle: A bad copy of Gumball where it had lazy writing and animation because its only purpose was to advertise milk
God the fact you kept using How to Ratatoing Your Dragon for the Little Panda Fighter clips is killing me
I remember being disgusted by the art style of Gummball and finding the characters and jokes to be boring. But it's always nice to hear other perspective, especially since I've heard that it's a good show.
The writing is really sharp. Watching it an an adult makes it way better. And the RPG episode is one of the best things to air on TV.
This is the first time I've ever heard of this rip off, and honestly, just looking at the visuals in this video, there's actually some decent talent behind the animation and character design. Usually the character design in these ripoffs is nightmare fuel, or at least mediocre at best. But here, the character design is actually on point. And while the animation isn't great, it's not bad. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of better animation was simply due to deadlines and rushing, because there's actually some potential here. Whoever worked on Miracle Star does have potential. Just get some extra talent and great writers, and these guys actually could make something fun and original. But alas, it's a Chinese ripoff. The sad truth is there's potential here that will likely never be truly realized, which really sucks.
Yeah I agree, It saddens me more that the people that did the art probably just worked on it cause a jobs a job. So much talent wasted on a ripoff smh
I wouldn't give the animation that much credit, they literally copied some scenes and poses frame by frame. They'd really have to be on a time crunch to make it look bad when they took directly from the original source.
@@SpicyButterflyWings yeah, true
@@SpicyButterflyWings Or they weren't payed enough for more efforts. But we are talking mostly about character designs. Now, I'm not interested in gumball OCs, but I like the diverse characters in the copied show.
@@MDG-mykysWell, I'm not gonna pretend I know anything about statistical wages in the Chinese animation industry. So I don't know, I can only judge the output of their work. The characters designs are fine from what I saw, I'll give you that.
Fun fact, Little Panda Fighter was LITERALLY REFERENCED in a Gumball episode.
which episode?
I like how Miracle star was just a milk commercial lmao
“This video is brought to you by honey”
SO YOURE JUST GONNA SCROLL WITHOUT SAYING HI TO COINY!?!??!!?!?!?!
Honestly I just want CN to make a streaming service with *everything* they've ever done on there. I would *totally* pay for that.
cartoon network app ?
Hbomax has some stuff
@🔶️VALENCE XENOGENESIS 19🔷️ I've seen advertising for that before and I'm pretty sure it's just shows that they have currently airing
adding on, last time i used the app (like 4-6 years ago lol) they didn't have all the episodes either
I feel this on a whole new level. I don't really watch Gumball, but I can totally understand having thieves stealing and ripping off. A couple months back, I had someone take my artwork and copy pretty much everything from my characters and so on. And worst, they were getting a profit off of it on an app. Plus, the thief was from another country too. The rip offs were so bad that my friend and I actually thought up of characters based on these rip offs. To see Gumball do the same had me laughing and respect Gumball for that.
Nice
My favorite part in the gumball take on miracle star is how they call China “The Republic of People”
I started watching Gumball because I watched this video, and I just got to the Copy Cats episode. It is absolutely fantastic! Thank you, Saberspark!
This isn't a ripoff suggestions, but I'd HIGHLY suggest checking out Monkie Kid. It's a children animated TV show with absolutely STUNNING animation like holy shit the animators but so much effort into it and the story is just. MWAH it is so good. I really hope you check it out and make a review video on it, as I'd love for more people to check it out!! It's definitely worth a watch
I heard a little bit about Monkie Kid when it first came out... Through the Ninjago fandom... Who pointed out how similar some of the characters were to some of the Ninjago characters...
@@CoppeRoseBush They are both LEGO productions.
Monkie Kid is amazing and I think it's a really great Kid's show. Worthy Ninjago successor
@@calebmapp7096 I'm well aware of that. It's just interesting how similar in designs the characters are. I mean, look at Kai and the Monkie Kid main character (I admittedly don't know his name) and tell me they don't look like doppelgangers
@@CoppeRoseBush Ehhh, I'd argue they don't really look all that similar at all besides MAYBE the hair or the outfit? But they are generally two very different designs
The Copyright law: * decided to ignore that due to different laws in China. *
Ben Bocquelet: Fine, I'll do it myself.
This also brings to mind how Capcom responded when SNK made Ryo Sakazaki, whom was considered to be a rip-off of Ken and Ryu: Capcom made Dan Hibiki, whom was designed as a cross between SNK's Robert Garcia and Ryo Sakazaki, and portrayed him as a joke character.
Funny you mention Little Panda Fighter since Gumball even had an episode addressing THAT, too, complete with the clip you showed of it. I love Gumball's savagely blunt humor. XD
