I just bought a house where the lady left a eXmark Z turn and one would think you were servicing a spaceship. Complicated, hard to reach and from a engineer's perspective it was designed that way so you would take it the dealership. I never seen a machine that did so little but was so complicated.

If anyone's wondering, you can also use a Motorcraft FL 910s which is a common automotive filter for around $3.99 or so. If you want a good premium filter it's a Wix 51348 XP for $10.99. Hope this helps.

The motorcraft looks bigger in the pics. Is it? And will it effect anything?

NAPA sythetic is Valvoline. We use is a work, its good. I've heard the Kohlers today use Amsoil 10w 50 right out of the factory. I've got my doubts about that.

I love changing the oil on this machine, super easy and can reach everything. By far the easiest mower to change oil on by far.

Thanks for saying the oil filter was on abnormally tight. I have the same engine and it took quite a bit to remove the oil filter. I actually dented the oil filter with the oil filter wrench I went to purchase as I could not remove it with a normal "strap" oil filter remover tool. Since I could not remove it, I was going to take it into the shop, but then I saw your video and you said yours was on abnormally tight, so I decided to induce a lot of WD40 and use more power (keen power) and finally got it removed. Thanks for the video.

Every nower I have ever bought they have been over torqued ...just hand tight and one tirn with wrench is all you need 🤟👍

Kohler engine manual says to replace break-in oil at 5 hrs. I will say what came out had the fluidity of water. Very thin. Slightly green. 2nd oil change at 100 hrs., which seems like a bit long to me.

  • @JOSHUAK71
    @JOSHUAK71 Před 5 lety +1

My Kohler 7000 Series 25hp, states oil change at 100hrs depending on the working environment. Extreme use requires 75hrs to 50hrs. In my book. I always do 50hrs myself. And fependibg on oil specs too

If you don't wanna pay high price for a Kohler filter you can use a STP S3614 or a SuperTech ST3614.
Or from those numbers you could cross reference to almost any other brand.
All of the rebranded filters are so expensive.
    Nice video 👌

6-5-19: The smaller one is a Full Flow filter, the bigger one is a Pro Performance.
I bought the 12-050-01 yesterday only to find out it wasn't the Pro (even though it has the same Kohler part number, weird!). I exchanged it today for the Pro, which is yellow, and a 12-050-02.
My new yellow Pro Performance one is the same size as the original black Pro filter that was originally installed from factory. I'm doing my first oil change tomorrow, engine has 25 hours on the clock.

My Kohler is in a Husqvarna Z-254. I use the Kendall L-427 Super Blue grease beings that's what we use in our semi's. It sticks pretty good and have been pretty happy with it.
I wanted to use the Kohler SAE5 oil like the manual states for temps 50-100 degrees, but no one in town sells it. They only carry the 10-30. I'll give it a go while watching for any oil consumption.
According to research, the SAE5 and 10/30 are supposed to be the same viscosity at operating temperature..
Oil here in my town is $5.49, Kohler oil filter was $10 (for the Pro or Full Flow).

Nick Netotian yea i was getting to that.. also sharpened blades ...one thing to take note of ... cleaning those fans is a real pain in neck ..thats the one thing they got to fix ...even with redmax 8500 its a chore ...they have metal vents that block the air from being able to clean the area ...i tried to make this look as easy as possible...cause its so easy ...some people get spooked of doing it themself

    • @SupremeServicesLawnCare

Shane Bretey oil grade is purely based on where you live ...if your in hot places like florida you use a thicker oil , colder area thinner oil ...
