    $275,000 = 1.30 of X. $275,000 /1.3 = $211,538

I just wanted to thank you for keeping me sharp...
And occasionally teaching me more efficient ways to solve some equations. I have grandkids that will need these skills this fall.

If a studend gets a B ffor the wrong answer on a multiple choice question and shows a misunderstanding of percentages, there is no longer a question as to why current graduates are so lacking in math skills. Wrong answers are WRONG.

Just divide the current price by 1.3

In my head, I used the answers and went backwards then added the 30%. Easy, b. BTW, when I do percentages, I always use a base of 10% then calculate accordingly. Ie: 10% of $211,538 is approximately $21,159. Then multiply by 3 for 30%.

I solved it exactly the same way, though, I did it in fewer steps. I divided 275,000 by 1.3, to get 211,538.46.

Greetings. The answer can be determined by assuming that the original value of the house is X. Now since the cost went up by 30% and the total cost after the increase is $275,000.00. The original cost is X+30X/100=$275,000.00= 130X=$27 500,000.00 That is X= $211,538.46.

Current price is $275,000..that was increase by 30%..
So the original price is 100-30= 70% therefore 0.7x275,000= 192,500

    X+.3X=275,000, 1.3X=275,000 thus X (original price) =211,538 and price increase =0.3X=63,461. Proof: 63, 461+211,538=275,000

No calculator required. I asked myself what a 30% increase on $200,000 would be. Answer $60,000 because 2 X 3 is 6. Therefore that total would be $260,000 so answer must be more than $200,000 and the multi choices only have 1 answer above that. Stupidly easy B.

In Short 275/1.3 = 221.538 , So option B is the correct Answer.

If the price went up 30% that mean $275,000 is now 130%.
    $275,000/130…x100= $211,538.

    Original price = X ( unknown )
    Sale price = $275K.
    Rate of increase = 30%
    Write it down:
    $275K = X + 30%X
    = 1.3X
    X = $275K/1.3
    = $211,538
    V E R I F Y
