    Currently, my only large-scale RC is an X-MAXX (4WD vehicle), thus everything I know about it doesn't apply to what's coming - I am about to start building the Kraken VESLA.5 SBK (ie. limited-release kit version of the VESLA.5). As your video mentions, the VESLA.5 uses the same wheels & tires front & rear (ie. the same wheel diameter & width as the Losi 5ive-T). However, from my 1/10 2WD buggy experience, I also know that front tires should be "ribbed" (especially when running on sand & dirt). This is where I could use some 'assistance'. For the VESLA.5, I plan to have three sets of wheels/tires - one for street use, one for desert use, and (eventually) one for sand use. For street & sand, I’ve already been provided with more than a few good tire options. Here is my ‘concern’, and what leads to my questions.
    For desert use, the best suggestions have been the Mad Max Double Blades, and HPI Dirt Buster RIB. The ‘problem’ is that, as far as I’ve been able to tell, these only appear to come in ‘buggy’ width, which also makes me think the overall tire diameter is shorter. Unfortunately, specs of these two tires is virtually non-existent - the Dirt Buster RIB tire info states “170x60mm” (I assume that’s in reference to the mounted-wheel diameter & width), and I can’t find ANY info for the Mad Max Double Blades. I know, in the video, you said that wheel & tire measurements don't mean anything to you...but, to many people, those measurements are very important...especially in the case of 2WD vehicles. Finally, the questions:
    1) What are the measurements (wheel mounting diameter & width, as well as overall tire diameter) of the stock VESLA.5 tires, if you know? I could be wrong, but I’m guessing they are probably the same measurements of tires for the Losi 5ive-T.
    2) What are the measurements of the Mad Max Double Blades, and HPI Dirt Buster RIB, tires?
    3) If the Mad Max Double Blades and/or HPI Dirt Buster RIB tires have “front buggy” dimensions (meaning narrower and/or having a smaller overall tire diameter than VESLA.5/5ive-T tires)), are there any tires (the same models, or something almost identical in tread design/pattern) having “narrow truck” dimensions, which could be mounted onto stock 5ive-T/VESLA.5 wheels?
    4) And, finally, for any of these tires (ie. the two I mentioned, as well as any of ‘similar’ design), are any available that are belted? I have no intentions of doing ‘stunts’, thus tires that ‘balloon’ are not a requirement.

    Great info herein!! Thanks, you saved my bacon. I was about to pull the trigger on a set of DBXL-E 2.0 wheels and tires with the intent of replacing the tires with truck size down the road. I guess that's not an option. That stinks. I'm looking for race worthy tires for a Kraton 8s.. guess I'll keep looking..

    @ddmsteveb I would love if you created a video that discussed rims, materials, construction, weight and how it impacts performance. I keep wanting to buy upgraded wheels but they are expensive and I don't see videos that discuss anything but durability of the wheel it self for 1/5 scale.
    I am wondering if there are other impacts on the drivetrain given the increased weight. What is the impact on performance? Do I need to adjust my gearing?

    Awesome video Steve. Very helpful. With a little "Trim" can a set of Hostile HH974 for the Baja 5T-SC be used for a Losi 5T?

      No need to do that when the HH971 exists: www.ddmracing.com/hostile-foam-set-hpi-baja-5t-5sc-losi-5ive-desert-buggy-xl-dbxl-HPI4817-LOSB7241-LOS45006

    Hi Steve I have a dbxl e 2.0 with max 4 and 560 kv, 30 pinion and 44 spur and run on 12 s. I tried some tires but the only ones that resisted the stress were the Proline Badlands MX43. However, running mainly on asphalt, I would like to use a more appropriate set of tyres, which one do you recommend that can withstand the great power it releases to the ground?

      I have had a couple customers using the new belted MadMax Street Sweepers with success. One is in a VEKTA converted to electric using the Max4/560KV 70125SD on 12S. His truck is pushing 55 pounds with all the aluminum and they have held up to speed and slides just fine. Another has used them on a 12S powered DBXL with great success too.

    How do the narrow front truck tires compare to having a staggered set on a 5sc? Im debating on just getting a set of 4 same width wheels so that I can rotate them later

    • @DDMSteveB
      @DDMSteveB  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi Daniel! Most people have gone the route of just using the "narrow front" size truck tires for front and rear of the HPI Baja trucks because there are so many tire options available in that Losi 5IVE-T size.

  • @Dahliamunky
    @Dahliamunky Před měsícem

    Hey! I watched your video and appreciate it very much I’m not sure if I missed it but I have a HPI Baja 5t and I do have the bigger rear tires and narrow front tires. Now I’m looking getting new tires, foam and rims pretty soon and was thinking should I just go narrow all 4 wheels like the Losi 5t does or stick to the bigger rear and narrow front ?

    • @DDMSteveB
      @DDMSteveB  Před měsícem +1

      You did miss it; most people are just using the "narrow" truck size for front and rear of the Baja trucks now. This is due to the greater number of tire choices that you can find on the market these days.

      There are no drift compound tires for the large scale trucks and buggies. FG has a set of drift tires and wheels for 1/5 touring cars; www.fg-modellsport.com/product/fg-modellsport-drift-wheel-2p-08939

    The dbxl is different because losi didn't design it. It's only theirs by name only.

    • @DDMSteveB
      @DDMSteveB  Před 10 měsíci

      I know that, but they’ve made four different iterations at this point and have had so much opportunity to change it over. There’s no excuse at this point.

    • @brandonjones5096
      @brandonjones5096 Před 10 měsíci

      @DDMSteveB Oh, I agree, it is really strange. My assumption is that whoever it was that designed it that way holds the control over the design and don't want to change it, so Losi's hands are tied. I'd bet Losi probably regrets outsourcing it. Why that decision was ever made to begin with is beyond me.
