Thanks for a great review! I bought a used copy with the Lens Mate and 3 filters about a month ago. Overall, I am pretty happy with it. The biggest two things that I like are the small factor and the zoom range. I have an A6000 and a small collection of lens. While the picture quality and low light capability of the bigger camera are superior, taking that out for casual shots is always a minor logistical hassle. My wife hates it when I take walks with the A6000, carries a bag, and occasionally have to switch lens. The RX100 M7 did away with all that without sacrificing too much in quality. The super fast auto focus is also fantastic, easily embarrassing the old A6000 any day of the week. Yeah, I really wish low light performance is better and that I am not always worried about keeping ISO low. But in tough low light situations, I can use my Samsung Note 20 as a backup!

Thanks.. Good informative video. I do like Sony focusing technology. for my personal needs looking for something and lightweight with built-in-zoom, fairly wide f/stop, high enough burst rate with no lag time (buffering) between shots. this seems to fit the bill. i really like the cage you're using and the lensmate filter adapter. use this camera for still mostly..video xtra bonus nice to have. I like it! Tired of changing lenses. If i want to do that I'll just carry my DSLR

I finished the PCT( pacific crest trail) 2600 miles Mexican border to Canada a month ago and due to weight issues I ditched my 6600 at the last minute grabbed our new RX MARK 7 wow it was exposed to 700 miles of the hottest desert in recorded history the rugged John mure, Yosemite the cascade and high deserts of Oregon. I regularly drop it in sand, rivers and bounced it of boulders snow ice and mud. it was attached to the bottom of my pack and was subjected to more abuse than the average user wait no more abuse than any user would ever subject a camera to. Still operates as new. Issues, not really you will need a filter in the blazing sun of the Mojave desert it would wash the colors out. Note at 120 degrees the filter would fall off glue would melt I used double side tape would have to reapply every day. I filled 8 250 gig cards camera never failed I’m convinced that this camera and my I phone 12 with a pelican case are Armageddon proof.

Nice video, thank you. I just took my vii to Greece and Turkey and the camera worked great. I put the flexible tripod on and could still put it in my shorts pocket. I have the Mag Filter and had no problems with it falling off. I'm new to photography so I took most of my shot in auto. I used the panoramic mode several time with great results. Now that I'm home I will start trying my hand at manual mode. Loving my camera.

I've set mine up pretty much the same way. I did use the mag filter setup for my ND filters. My only gripe is battery life but thats to be expected in such a small versatile package. I do wish it could be powered by an external battery pack but maybe in the next version? I will say that if I had of bought this before my sony full frame I may have just stuck with it and saved a bundle for my needs.Cheers.

I'm looking for a secondary camera for shooting concerts. These are smaller shows -- no more than a couple hundred people. A couple of the venues do get fairly dark. But I am always in the front row. Just curious if it's worth the money to purchase for that purpose. I already use an a73 with 16-35 GM and 28-75 Tamron at these shows, but I wanted something smaller, pocketable -- so I don't drag a big camera and lenses around everywhere. What do you think? Thanks for the video. Quite thorough. Best wishes!

Great video! I just bought the rx100 mVII to add to my RX100 mIV. I recently stopped shooting professional real estate and architecture jobs so I decided to sell all of my other cameras and lenses in favor of the RX100. It does it all, in my opinion and it is so easy to just put in a bag when traveling. The only shortcoming I found with the RX100 line prior to this latest version was the lack of an audio jack, which the VII solves! Question...the link you provided for the Hoya ND filter is not a variable ND. In the video you show the effect fo your ND filter. Can you tell us what ND range the filter you are using covers? Thanks again for a great video!

Usability? The cage has a wood grip, but the wood grip is very slippery. I own it and it is slippery. Has anyone done anything to the wood grip to make it so you can grip it? Also, with the cage on, how do people reach the On/Off and shutter buttons, when operating one-handed? I don't have the cold shoe, and still can't hold the camera one handed and reach the power button nor the shutter button with the cage in the way. I can't reach the buttons with my right hand, even if I use my left hand to help hold the camera. What does everyone do to solve these issues? On another topic, how do you trigger a remote "flash"?

Just had this video as a recommendation on YT....as have been searching for hints and tips on this camera as I recently bought one.
I think I am fairly rare when it comes to videoing it would seem, as I don't Vlog and use my cameras for gigs, both photos and videos. It's the perfect size camera to take to gigs as it fits in your pocket.
I have had several of the previous RX100's but recently came to the conclusion I need an external mic, as the internal ones get over saturated by loud music.
I bought the SmallRig cage shown in this video, but found it was too restrictive with the cage making access to the shutter button and power buttons not easy to get to, especially when needing to at speed to capture moments....so I opted for the L-Shaped bracket from Small Rig.
This doesn't obstruct the top of the camera at all, and I mount my mic (Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone) underneath using a SmallRig quick release cold shoe mount.
This seems to work great for me at the moment.
I think I def need the lens cover though.

  • @Pharesm
    @Pharesm Před 2 lety

There is also a magnetic solution for filters, that also works for the Ulanzi wide angle macro lens! You can just put it on and take it off without threading it every time...
Oh hey, does that RX100 VII have a digital hot-shoe that works with SONY's new digital boom mic...?
I bought an A7C, but traded it for an A7IV recently. Still waiting for the RX100VIII since 2016...
I thought about a cage for my RX100V, but just got the little Sony Grip, so I can keep it in my jeans pocket. The one thing I thought was worth its weight was that tiny Rollei Steadicam!
I tried the Zhiyun Crane 3, but battery life was not good - the Steadicam ended up working so much better!!
