  • This is a superb clip taken from the BBC's Pro Celebrity Golf series which ran through the late 1970's and 1980's
It has been edited to demonstrate the natural talent and flair of the legendary and sorely missed Spanish Golfer - Severiano Ballesteros. He became renowned for his ability to recover from tough positions and this short video shows the skill and bravery that he possesed
This was filmed in 1978, Seve would have been just 21 years old and he was joined by Lee Trevino and celebrities Henry Cooper and Sean Connery.
Trevino offers praise and advice for the young Spaniard, and predicts a very bright future for him, and a lovely moment when Peter Alliss puts his arm around Seve as they recognise his raw talent.

Seve was a true Golfing superstar.
Great praise indeed there bestowed upon Seve by his friend Lee Trevino. From one all time great to another. And exactly what Lee Trevino said, turned out to be correct. When Seve was at his best he was unbeatable.

Blade 2- iron, slightly downhill in the light rough, 240-250 to the green in 1980… pretty good result from Seve.

A true great Seve is the reason I watched golf growing up, love Lee’s advice “be yourself” and he certainly was

He was a great inspiration for many, and even brought none golfers to the game - my mum absolutely loved watching him play.

@@ladgolf6330 in my eyes he was and is the greatest, not just for what he did for hmself but what he did for European Golf and how he inspired others to be better than they thought they could be

@@fazalinator and I think that extends beyond golf, but in golfing terms, he will always be the player I look up to the most.

And Lee still had one more Major win to come (1984 PGA Championship) after doing these shows. Just an amazing player, and no doubt a massive influence on Seve

Funny, you forget how great he was, because of him being unable to hit a fairway in his later years but he had the best hands I've ever seen...bar perhaps Phil.
A legend and sadly missed 😢

    What a jewel

The problem of Seve was not about lack of "thinking", because all his career was a thought and an invention to escape from problems.

For a large amount of Seve’s career he actually drove the ball very straight. It was purely the fact that he went for the amazing shot and always went for the green rather than playing safe that he did invariably at some points need to get himself out of trouble. It was only in the latter years when his back problems really became severe that he was unable to turn properly and he lost a lot of his natural swing and driving ability, he is definitely one of the all-time greats of golf and revered as a golfing God amongst his peers

That art is gone a 2 iron of a downhill lie. The skill that takes is lost

I've got an old Tiliest 2 iron - and hitting it off any lie - even a tee, takes some practice..

A young Sereriano….what a prodigy he was. He had it all. He is one of those that it was a shame to see get old, lose his game and his life. I miss watching him play.

The ironic thing is Trevino is still going strong and Seve is cold in his grave.
