Leaving that damn cold clam was the right move! The first time I drank salt coffee, I was scared.
But I fell in love with it the second time, so I may change my preference after my taste buds get used to it!
In fact, fresh meat glutinous rice balls are a salty food that can be used as a staple food, and are usually cooked with vegetables!
It is different from sweet glutinous rice balls stuffed with peanuts or sesame seeds, and we would not call it a dessert!
I hope you can have a chance to try the orthodox salty glutinous rice balls next time!
Thank you for all your hard work in sharing all the real things in this world with us! And thank you for sharing the first video of 2024. 👍🥰🙌🎈🎉

Not sure how you can say that without knowing how the dish is meant to be eaten.
@LukeMartin For the cold clam dish, thats how it's served. The hot soup it comes with is meant to either be poured over on top or eaten seperately with the cold dish.

In Vietnam and Cambodia (maybe other countries in SEA but I am not sure) it is very normal to be served a pot of tea with coffee. Even if you order a coffee to go they will sometimes give you a tea along with it for free. Sometimes here in Cambodia you can order a can of coke at a cafe and they will also give you a pot of complimentary tea. I lived in Da Lat and they almost always gave a pot of tea for free when I would get a coffee with a friend.
The cold clams thing was weird but Vietnamese people might be able to explain it.
The notion that one city is the best city for food is weird to me. Osaka is better than Tokyo? Lyon is better than Paris? Hue is better than Saigon? I don't buy into those ideas so much.

My GF originates from Hue. She says they tend to have a slightly saltier palate and some dishes do indeed get served cold. In fact you will find many dishes served cold in VN and that is attributed to the hot climate. She finds it odd for me in the UK heating up cold food and vice versa for me eating hot food cooled down. It is just a matter of a different eating experience.

@@mrcalipride cold as in cooled down. Not like out of fridge cold. You are wrong about the clam dish being served hot. Dish is commonly served cold. Just Google it too. It was a rainy cold day in this episode so I am not surprised if it felt colder.

    • @mrcalipride
      @mrcalipride Před 4 měsíci

@@qmaru14 dude. It's not served cold; obviously, it's not served hot like a soup, but the clams need to be heated up. The CZcamsr said it was cold, so there was definitely something wrong. By the way, Com hen is my favorite dish, and I make it all the time. He also probably forgot to put some of the clam broth into the bowl, which is the key factor in this dish. The only time Vietnamese really eat cold food is Dessert.

That banh mi w the meat drip sauce looks mind blowingly good. As for the bun bo Hue, you should have added those herbs into the bowl when it was brought out to you.
I used to live and work in VN and I maintain that VN seems to have the most "democratic" food culture/society in the world. By that I mean any ordinary person in VN, poor and just a manual laborer, can still access AND afford great food with fresh ingredients cooked by people that take pride in their food, anywhere in their town/city. In alley ways, in wet market, etc. And they have a variety of such great food too. Add in the cheap beer, cheap dessert like the "che" or just plain but sweet tropical fruit at the end of the meal, cafes all of the place, and I marveled at how they can eat a complete meal at such affordability. I can barely speak Vietnamese but my oh my how those food eatery proprietors enjoy talking to you. It's very different from the US how we go into our sterile franchise restaurants with zombies serving us mindlessly (through no fault of their own).

Bun Bo Hue is one of my favorite Vietnamese soup. That's a shame that it was too salty. It's not supposed to be. That's the issue with food that I talk about a lot with chef friends. Just because it's "authentic" meaning it was made by a person from that region doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be good. Just because I'm from Philly and I make you a cheesesteak, it's considered authentic, but I suck at cooking so it's awful. does that make it good cause it's "authentic" or food is just good base on who's cooking it.

Bro. The food is bad in most of Vietnam. That's why everyone is so thin. Eating is a chore, not a joy in Vietnam. Come over here and you can try to eat all the rotting meats, in the market. Maybe make your own video on it? (People and culture are great)

I feel you needed more research on where to eat and what to eat. Or find a food guide. There are so many delicious foods in Hue that you could have eaten like banh beo, banh bot loc, banh nam, banh khoai, bun thit noung, just to name a few. And just the comments like eggs being weird in soup or being in a dark, sketchy, creepy alleyway…? You’re paying prob less than a dollar for the meal, what do you expect. They are trying to make a living and doing their best with what they have. Sorry but you just missed the mark on this one.

The representation for Hue’s food was not it. Lack of knowledge and unnecessary comments. Hence the recommendation of a food guide or doing more research would have made their experience that much more enjoyable. If I need to learn more please teach me thay giao 😂

I could tell that the Bun Bo Hue wasn’t going to be good just looking at it. The Com Hen is supposed to be hot. I wouldn’t eat it cold either. I been to Hue and I think the food is ok. The best Viet food is in Saigon, Da Nang, and Mien Tay. Ha Noi and Hue are ok.
