  • Is this finally the perfect light pad that we've all been waiting for? Well, it's good, but perfect??? Hmmm. Here is my honest review on this pad's features that I love and don't love so much. As well as a demo drawing with me using the pad. Who cares if it's perfect for me, the real question is, is it perfect for you? This is my honest review and other than being sent the product for review, I was not compensated to say anything. I will be giving this light pad away in a future video... stay tuned to stay informed!

    Now you can and it would be most appreciated. Once I reach my $1,000 goal, I'll be buying a second camera to record my mixing palette since it's the number one request I get. Cheers! www.buymeacoffee.com/steveatk...

    Great video review Steve. I've never used a light pad that small but it's interesting. And I love that switch on the side. My light pad is about 11x14 but it's one of the old ones that are about as thick as a Webster's dictionary😁. But it works. So you know, I think your artwork is fantastic. Being a fellow lefty gives me hope for me! Take care, be safe, paint away!

      HA! Yep, I've got one of those, though it's bigger and uses flourescent tube bulbs. A real monster.

    Morning Steve.... always enjoy watching your videos! I think I would prefer the larger version as well and like you said, don't care for the permanent angle difference when using it in portrait mode. I'll definitely keep it in mind though. If I do decide to purchase this though, I will use your affiliate link. Looking forward to your next video.

    Weirdly, I found Cricut makes an amazing light pad. Multiple light settings, large surface, and sturdy. The only drawback is no battery, plug only. Also often on sale so don’t pay full price.

      Hi Joe, thanks for your feedback. My favorite light pad is the Huion A3 brand. It has a bright control and memory feature so that it will remember your last setting before you turned it off. www.amazon.com/dp/B01I4ISD6W/ref=sspa_dk_detail_5?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01I4ISD6W&pd_rd_w=hX0cL&content-id=amzn1.sym.dd2c6db7-6626-466d-bf04-9570e69a7df0&pf_rd_p=dd2c6db7-6626-466d-bf04-9570e69a7df0&pf_rd_r=P05JEDA1QAAPWHHH068M&pd_rd_wg=rpgPz&pd_rd_r=548c9569-affc-4d48-a940-b839fa890650&s=arts-crafts&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzNzZaMTVMVUFTMTFZJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTUyODEzMTVCVVdXMVJBUlJISCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODIzMzkxMTk5R0FDNTFJNktaSyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbF90aGVtYXRpYyZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
      I also recently bought an A2 size pad from this company. It does everything the Huion pad does but is much more reasonably priced for this large size light pad: www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWLQBX8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

      @@SteveAtkinsonFineArt Thanks for the response! Have you any experience with the brand HSK? I’ve been looking at the HSK A3 model and it seems extremely similar to Huion, but with 6000 lux maximum brightness, compared to the 4050 lux maximum on the Huion, which would be beneficial for thicker paper and with more transparency. Both feature mm measurement rulers instead of inches.

    • @SteveAtkinsonFineArt
      @SteveAtkinsonFineArt  Před rokem +1

      @@joesandstrom4111 It looks like the HSK pads get good reviews, and the lock button to stop the light from accidentally turning off when you brush it is genius! Most of these are from companies in China that can be here today and gone tomorrow (like any company I suppose) and the long term quality is unknown. The only drawback I can see on this model is that it only has 5 brightness settings, and not a smooth unlimited scale of brightness settings. I also don't know if it has a memory function that remembers your last setting when you turned it off. Maybe you know?

    • @joesandstrom4111
      @joesandstrom4111 Před rokem

      @@SteveAtkinsonFineArt Ah, yes. It does appear to be a 5-step brightness device, I was hoping it would have a dimmer. As nice as a dimmer would be, I don’t think I’ll mind stepping through the brightness settings and I’m not sure if it has a memory for the last brightness setting used (more convenient with a custom dimmer setting - and a device that you can easily turn off by swiping the power button by accident). For $20 cheaper than the Huion (and a 6000 Lux mode), I guess I’ll find out! This seems to be the only brand to have such high Lux capability. I’d love a stepless dimmer on it, but I’d most likely appreciate the extra brightness over the fine tuning ability. Too bad it doesn’t have both!
      Can the a Huion be powered via a USB port (plugged directly it into a laptop or portable power bank for instance), or strictly powered by a AC wall adapter, do you know?

    • @joesandstrom4111
      @joesandstrom4111 Před rokem

      @@SteveAtkinsonFineArt Ideally, a device that has a full 11x17 lighted work area, a dimmer, 6000 LUX max brightness, a locked power on, an integrated stand, and the option for USB power would be the ultimate! But, this device doesn’t seem to exist. Most of these devices aren’t really optimized for usb charging anyways (or an internal te-chargeable battery) as they would likely be a quick drain on batteries at maximum LUX. However, the ability to power it via USB certainly would help with portability with the addition of a portable battery power brick.

    This would only work if you work on small paper. If you work large, this probably wouldn't work. That's why a light table (not tablet) works really well.

    • @SteveAtkinsonFineArt
      @SteveAtkinsonFineArt  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, a light table is best if you find yourself using them often. For big drawings I use one I've had for decades that my dad made for me when I got into college.

    So the light level is not a dimmer?

    • @SteveAtkinsonFineArt

      No, it doesn't dim smoothly, but rather dims in 20% increments, so there are 5 levels of light.

      @@SteveAtkinsonFineArt oh okay. Thanks for reply and great review. Huion have smooth dimmer right? I have a table lamp do that and it is cool 😋 but Huion more expensive than this

    • @SteveAtkinsonFineArt
      @SteveAtkinsonFineArt  Před 3 lety

      @@yopibram Yep, Huion's dimmer is smooth, not like this one. It gives you more flexibility, but comes at a higher price. I've found that the 5 settings work fine for me and I don't miss the smooth dimmer, but it doesn't have a light setting memory that remembers your last, and probably favorite light setting. For me, the Huion is worth the extra cost. Hope this helps!
