I've been a tenant for a number of years....I usually stay for a few years, and have actually have had landlords press me as to why I'm moving...usually it's because of job relocation. They try to get me to stay! Offers of rent reduction etc. Watching this vid just amazes me how rotten and terrible some tenants can be. And...if you can look past the filth, this is a pretty nice little house. Screen your tenants b4 u let them in!!! There are still good ppl out there to rent to.
crazy!! I've rented two houses before buying my own and when moving out I returned to the house after emptiying everything out and gave it a super good cleaning..people just dont seem to have any respect for others anymore ...sad
im sure there is more to this story. and this was nothing compared to what I have seen. alot of slumlords ruin it for others. they take deposits away for no reason. hence ppl probably stopped caring and leave it a mess.
I'd have loved to be able to do that before moving in to our flat! There's black mold, single glaze windows, water streaming down the walls in winter, and we can't even open our windows half the time! I don't understand how landlords need references from possible tennants but there's nothing similar for landlords to give to tennants to prove they are responsible landlords!
that's clean compared to my rental house, my tennants left 16 heaping truck loads of garbage, a contaminated well, ruined furnace and water pump, and destroyed flooring and drywall, never again will I rent out a property unless I live next door.
I've have rentals also, & seen a lot worse, the place did not look damaged much at all, just take it all to local thrift shop, or have a yard sale, (like said before). I'm trying to hold to demanding 1st, last, & dpt.. And I'm getting better at waiting for the better renters, but it's kind of hard I know. And I don't forget that even when I worked for others, I had to deal with some asses, & got paid less money for doing it. If you want to grow in wisdom, get married & become a landlord.
Wow. I never left a place like that when I moved out when I was renting and I always got my deposit back because I left it clean like it was when I moved in. At least it just looks like a lot of junk and no major damage.
OMG! People do this? When I moved out of my apartment, I cleaned everything. It was spotless when I moved out. I even mop the floor before I left. I received my full deposit back. Geez...I didnt think people would do this!
That ain't shit, obviously they had a few young kids, and didn't have time to deal with the little items. You could find someone to clean all that out couple hundred bucks.
Looks like they left behind alot of usable good quality stuff. I say a Leather recliner, top shelf coffee maker, Microwave, toys, 5 drawer dresser... you made out like a bandit.
Some of that stuff can be donated to charity for Christmas drives or just to donate. Didn't seem like the structure was damaged, its just to clean it. Not too bad. nice place too. Better than my apartment. LOL!
I had one tenant that was moving out (was on track for getting evicted). They had a big screen TV. One of the old heavy models. Another tenant in the building reported that the moving tenant moved the TV down the stairs. Couldn't navigate the turn at the bottom of the stairs. Broke a window in the hallway in the process. Then moved the TV back up the stairs and into the apartment (where they left it for me to move and dispose of).
I'm a screener at FidelisAM and I hear horror stories like this from landlords all day. It still blows my mind that some landlords dont do background checks or at least an eviction history. You know the person who did this had to have been evicted before. - Angry Screener
I find it amazing that people can't pay their rent and yet they vacate the property and leave all of these possessions behind! Geesh, just think how much it will cost them to replace the items they left. We kept the items for the required time and then donated them to charity...they never did come back to pick anything up.
just an idea, but i don't think they were finished moving cause i personally have been there and i would't WANT to leave some of that stuff behind, i can see it happening for a couple reasons,....an abusive relationship and had to leave in a hurry, or they/she/he were evicted, theres aleays two sides, they may have been locked out and couldn't get back in
Damn, that looks like the makings of a decent yard sale to pay for the cleaning expenses anyway. I wish some of my ex-tenants left good stuff like that.
as a young adult, I used to get a new apartment every time my lease was up . (they were plentiful) I NEVER left a place looking even remotely like this. I always left it clean, and most times better than when I moved in. not bragging. just never could understand people that will not take care of things when you rent to them. Luckily I now own my home and still love doing things to it.
"why prescreening is important " How is that going to stop people leaving a mess??? You'd fit it all in one skip so whats the problem? one week and you could have it ready for a new tenant to move in.
@gtilley2 Good points. Also take a look inside their vehicle if you can. The way they keep their vehicle is a good indicator of how they keep their living space.
That's a lot of stuff. I agree the things tenants leave behind are unbelieveable. Very nice house by the way, too bad tenants don't respect others property. TFS
The music comes from the Flip hand recorder...the Flip is a great video recording tool for simple video shots that can quickly be created into a movie...I love the Flip!
What's unfortunate is you can never know how a tenant will keep their home/apartment. There really is no way of knowing if they are clean or messy people. I live in a not so nice apartment with my husband and his 3 kids. It is always clean and neat. I'd kill to live in a place this nice. They treat it like trash.
No bond, just a security deposit and sometimes, last months rent in advance. If apt. communities here in the states required a $2000 bond, there wouldn't be many renters. Some people have a hard enough time coming up with the 1st month and security, which is usually the same amount as the monthly rent.
My family made fun of me because of the way I cleaned my apt after I moved out. I left it cleaner than when I moved in (and it was not that clean when I moved in...) You have to have some level pride in your life...
I had tenants once who tossed burning cigarettes on the carpet, food behind the stove where it rotted, left a refrigerator full of food and had the power turned off so it rotted inside the fridge, had pissed all around the toilet so that I had to take up the floor and wall to get to the urine stink, and had shot out the windows from inside with a pellet gun, stole the furnace thermostat off the wall!. Best part: the tenant's brother was a city cop! What a bunch of losers!
Being in the military, I've rented a few properties in my career and I have NEVER left one in a sorry state! Not only is it a matter of pride, but professionalism as well. I have always got my deposits back and left on great terms with our renters. There's this saying that I always abide by: Leave something in better shape than you found it.
The owners do keep the security deposit (bond) to pay for the clean up or fixing it up in the States. And if it cost more to clean up or fixing up the place the the owner have a right to take them to court for the extra money the owners had to pay.
It may be that they had no place to take this stuff to. I escaped a bad relationship and only took the things that were my prized possessions. I didn't have the money to replace what i left, but I didn't have a choice. Different reason for leaving obviously, but without a place to put stuff, it's worthless. Now as to how they "cleaned" ..terrible.
The people who complain most about not having money always leave the most stuff behind. That's why they're poor. One of my renters left 2 high school kids in my rental house alone for 3 months. I lived out-of-state, so I didn't know. The mom stopped paying rent so I evicted her. The house was left full of broken furniture, laptops, clothing, TV's, Stereos, empty bottles of booze, at least 100 pizza boxes piled on the back porch with various amounts of rotting pizza in each box. Pigs...
@KandDplusKandE yes we do, we call it a deposit here though. Its usually the equivalent to the first months rent. You will most certainly NOT get your deposit back leaving a rental like this
Because after court future landlords can see they have been taken to court for eviction and they can spare themselves the pain this person went through.
I had a neighbor that didn't pay rent and got evicted and they had ton of trash. Most of the things were destroyed. And found quite a bit of pot or cocaine.
I don't find this surprising, and you can't eliminate the chance of it by pre-screening. I've never left a house in such a state. But I know what its like to have your life implode after sudden income loss. Moving costs a fortune and you're already broke enough to fall behind on rent and have nowhere to take your belongings. The best thing a landlord or agent can do to prevent this is keep communications open and be flexible enough to help outgoing tenants to help you. Looks like time ran out.
Yep, it could have been worse. The items left behind are abandoned. That is money in your pocket if you decide to turn it for some cash. My parents owned an apartment building in anoka, mn. They had a guy do an overhaul of his harley in his living room. Yeah, it gets worse. Good times ;)
@RDRealEstateExperts i was evicted once and was barely allowed time to gather clothes and dishes. lucky for me the woman felt bad and stalled until i could get a ride. they cant help it sometimes.
Wow I can't believe this was even posted like that was bad. That's like 50 labor some touch up paint and a quick cleaning. Three weeks ago I had to go into an abandoned with a refrigerator full of food, meat so rotted that the bags blew up in my hand as I tried to remove them. I was in there less than five minutes. And the stench permeated my close so bad that I had to throw them out shoes included. Cat houses enough said. This, I would not mind seeing this.
In Red Deer a typical hourly rate for a cleaner varies between $20-$25 per hour so obviously it just depends how many hours of cleaning you would require. We usually hire a cleaner to do the windows, wipe down walls, clean the bathrooms and the appliances and then we do the rest. On average it takes a cleaner any where from 4-8 hours for that work depending on the condition of the home.
@KandDplusKandB......it's called damage deposit and most ppl do clean before they leave but since it was an eviction for non payment of rent, they probably only had 24 to 48 hrs to get out so they took the most important. since they didn't pay rent the landlord would get deposit for the rent anyway.
have you every thought that they may have vacated and not been able to pay their rent, and moving the items would require many trips back to the address or a rental van...? Therefore costing more money which they don't have as they wouldn't pay rent.
They left dirty diapers and other garbage right there on the floor. It wasn't that they couldn't take it with them, I think they just didn't give a fuck that someone else has to clean up after them.
@thebakerman1 Your statement is very true. Quiet often the landlord is made out to look like the bad guy in these situations. I think it's over looked that here is someone who has saved 20% of their hard earned money for a down payment to purchase a revenue property, they carry the mortgage and 100% of all the risk, only to turn around and allow someone or a family to move in there, who can't qualify to purchase their own home, and have a safe, well maintained place where they can call home.
If its cement down the drains, you don't usually hire a clean up service then right? You'd work with a repair contractor is that true? I'm trying to understand how this business works. Thanks.
This is why video is so important. If you actually asked the people who rented this home if they cleaned up their stuff when they moved they'd quickly tell you they did. However, video shows otherwise. I couldn't imagine renting a home I worked hard for to people who live like this, and I'm sure the owner is the bad guy to them and all for what? Renting them a home? I feel badly for those who have to put up with this shit from assholes who just don't care. They make it harder for future renters.
Actually, thats not nearly as bad as i've seen before from other landlords...unfortunately, renting property is a risky buis,,,may get lucky and get good ppl or be unlucky and get terrible ppl...my landlord is about to toss out about 20 apts for a variety of things.
Who knows the situation, they might have lost their job due to the economy blame BUSH for that one. Maybe it was feed the kids, rent later, but if I had property to rent I wouldn't rent to young ppl.
Many states have remedies s for this. Written lease is good, but may not be needed. Notify the landlord in writing in detail of the issue. Not bad. The stuff left behind would make for a great garage sale. These people didn't do much damage whatsoever.
This is why owners need to do periodic inspections and impose fines for trashed, unclean property.
I've have rentals also, & seen a lot worse, the place did not look damaged much at all, just take it all to local thrift shop, or have a yard sale, (like said before).

Looks like they were not finished moving. Or a woman trying to hurry away from a bad situation.
Left in a hurry and only surface mess
Wow. I never left a place like that when I moved out when I was renting and I always got my deposit back because I left it clean like it was when I moved in. At least it just looks like a lot of junk and no major damage.
I saw many times when friends of mine would buy houses and the old owners leave the piano!
OMG! People do this? When I moved out of my apartment, I cleaned everything. It was spotless when I moved out. I even mop the floor before I left. I received my full deposit back. Geez...I didnt think people would do this!

It's sad to see all of the children's items laying around. Financial problems is not always a choice. However, cleanliness is.
people actually do this?! omg i couldn't live with myself if someone had to clean up a mess like that that i made!
I find it amazing that people can't pay their rent and yet they vacate the property and leave all of these possessions behind! looks like you gave them a couple days to get out and they took what they could on short notice and limited resourses
what a beautyful home, too bad people don't appreciate what they have!
Geez! They left enough children's toys behind to open your own Toys R Us!
"why prescreening is important "
How is that going to stop people leaving a mess???
You'd fit it all in one skip so whats the problem? one week and you could have it ready for a new tenant to move in.
LOL! It's an unused diaper! Just laying in the floor... alone. LOL!
actually i see a few items in that mess that i wouldn't mind having...
@gtilley2 Good points. Also take a look inside their vehicle if you can. The way they keep their vehicle is a good indicator of how they keep their living space.

Wow, I have never seen in my life a folded up clean DIRTY diaper. You might want to look again.
Sometimes it happens, even with prescreening of potential renters.
I swear if I was a landlord, I would want to see where and how they live before I rented a home to them.
i use to work as a janeter at a apt complex part time i make more money having yard sales at the complex just from abandon stuff
you got off easy, i had a tennant do over 6 grand in damages in less than 2 years renting my place from me. the garbage was the least of it.
You lucked out. I've seen tenants smear shit and piss on the walls, punch giant holes in the sheetrock, steal every fixture and appliance.
after I evicted tenants it took 3 weeks and 16 truck loads or garbage including all the carpets hauled to the landfill, absolute pigs.
No bond, just a security deposit and sometimes, last months rent in advance. If apt. communities here in the states required a $2000 bond, there wouldn't be many renters. I don't understand how people who destroy a house and get evicted ever find another place to live? Don't people call their previous landlord?
They sure left in a hurry. Are they in the witness protection program now?
The owners do keep the security deposit (bond) to pay for the clean up or fixing it up in the States. And if it cost more to clean up or fixing up the place the the owner have a right to take them to court for the extra money the owners had to pay.
Dumpster time! About 95% of that isn't salvageable. Take the furniture to the goodwill and the scrap the rest.
It may be that they had no place to take this stuff to. I escaped a bad relationship and only took the things that were my prized possessions. horrible... looks like they might have left in a hurry because i myself can not imagine anyone being pigs like that.
I agree, but would have only taken them an extra hour or two to dispose of all that rubbish.
I had a neighbor that didn't pay rent and got evicted and they had ton of trash. Most of the things were destroyed. And found quite a bit of pot or cocaine.
There are obviously children in the family. I feel bad for them having to live like this with a
parent(s) who don't seem to care very much.
But if they didn't have the money to pay the rent, what makes anyone think taking them to court is going to do any good?
I don't find this surprising, and you can't eliminate the chance of it by pre-screening. I've never left a house in such a state. Guess everyone who has commented has never moved out of their "clean" houses and left a mess just trying to get the hell out.
@RDRealEstateExperts i was evicted once and was barely allowed time to gather clothes and dishes. lucky for me the woman felt bad and stalled until i could get a ride. they cant help it sometimes.

there are peoples, who just don't know how too clean..
They left dirty diapers and other garbage right there on the floor. It wasn't that they couldn't take it with them, I think they just didn't give a fuck that someone else has to clean up after them.
Oh those hard wooden floors.
Well, at least they didn't destroy your property. At the worse just put all these stuff out on to the curve, at most 1/2 day's work.
to force311999...I'm very grateful that we have never encountered a dead animal yet!!...eww how stinky and aweful that would be!
so poor they can't pay rent, thou they still leave food, beverages and a microwave behind
i would have figured out where they moved to and rang the door bell after i dumped it in there yard or had a dollar yard sale the next saturday
@thebakerman1 Your statement is very true. Quiet often the landlord is made out to look like the bad guy in these situations. sell this all on eBay!lmao
Eh looks like you got some good stuff out of that. Microwave, coffee maker, dresser, couple small furniture pieces. Quit your whining puh-lease.
That's a small house, by the way, you know that the room with the green and red tile floor at 2:35 contains asbestos right?
If its cement down the drains, you don't usually hire a clean up service then right? You'd work with a repair contractor is that true? I'm trying to understand how this business works. Thanks.
i dont. to hell with them. dont pay the rent. get your ass out! if they were having trouble paying the rent, contact the landlord and TALK to them.
Can I have the lamp lol
Wow! Lazy fools leaving in a hurry. How much did it cost to clean it all up etc?
They'll do the same thing at the next place. Some people should NEVER have children!
They make it harder for future renters.
what in the world is the point sell crap to recove lost money
wow....Now i knew there are folk worse than me. I left stuff in the cupboards and a rink in the toilet and sink and my landlord went off over that.
people have to realize that having children costs extra money .
so sad because its such a nice house
Oh those nice hardwood floors.
Somebody didn't get their 500$ deposit back
Check their credit next time.
Actually, thats not nearly as bad as i've seen before from other landlords...unfortunately, renting property is a risky buis,,,may get lucky and get good ppl or be unlucky and get terrible ppl...my landlord is about to toss out about 20 apts for a variety of things.

Caveat, the ease may lay that fix responsibility on you. See the maintenance paragraph!!
Not only have llease, but read it!!
wow they don't have enough money to pay their rent but they can afford to replace all the stuff they left behind...hmmmmm what does that tell you?
