that's clean compared to my rental house, my tennants left 16 heaping truck loads of garbage, a contaminated well, ruined furnace and water pump, and destroyed flooring and drywall, never again will I rent out a property unless I live next door.

Some of that stuff can be donated to charity for Christmas drives or just to donate. Didn't seem like the structure was damaged, its just to clean it. Not too bad. nice place too. Better than my apartment. LOL!

Many states have remedies s for this. Written lease is good, but may not be needed. Notify the landlord in writing in detail of the issue. Give him time to fix. then if no response fix it and deduct from rent. Caveat, the ease may lay that fix responsibility on you. See the maintenance paragraph!! Not only have llease, but read it!!

I'd have loved to be able to do that before moving in to our flat! There's black mold, single glaze windows, water streaming down the walls in winter, and we can't even open our windows half the time! I don't understand how landlords need references from possible tennants but there's nothing similar for landlords to give to tennants to prove they are responsible landlords!

I have tenants leave a lot more junk behind than that and 3x the damage. I take it all to the dump and if they ever call the cops trying blame me for stealing I just tell the cops the house was empty when I found it.

you got off easy, i had a tennant do over 6 grand in damages in less than 2 years renting my place from me. the garbage was the least of it.

Dumpster time! About 95% of that isn't salvageable. Take the furniture to the goodwill and the scrap the rest.

im sure there is more to this story. and this was nothing compared to what I have seen. alot of slumlords ruin it for others. they take deposits away for no reason. hence ppl probably stopped caring and leave it a mess.

i use to work as a janeter at a apt complex part time i make more money having yard sales at the complex just from abandon stuff

I don't believe pre-screening would always stop such messes, as you never know if the peoples names, and numbers are relatives, or friends. However, a security deposit, would sure help.

just an idea, but i don't think they were finished moving cause i personally have been there and i would't WANT to leave some of that stuff behind, i can see it happening for a couple reasons,....an abusive relationship and had to leave in a hurry, or they/she/he were evicted, theres aleays two sides, they may have been locked out and couldn't get back in

crazy!! I've rented two houses before buying my own and when moving out I returned to the house after emptiying everything out and gave it a super good cleaning..people just dont seem to have any respect for others anymore ...sad

Well if you didn't buy houses for investments maybe people could afford a decent house and not be enslaved to you. You expect the place to be better or same shape when it started. Really??!! Here is an idea, If you are so upset because of your lowly tennants, just get out of being landlords and do something else for a living. Something honest for once. You are screwing everyone but it makes you feel so powerful doesn't it?

I'm a screener at FidelisAM and I hear horror stories like this from landlords all day. It still blows my mind that some landlords dont do background checks or at least an eviction history. You know the person who did this had to have been evicted before. - Angry Screener

@thebakerman1 Your statement is very true. Quiet often the landlord is made out to look like the bad guy in these situations. I think it's over looked that here is someone who has saved 20% of their hard earned money for a down payment to purchase a revenue property, they carry the mortgage and 100% of all the risk, only to turn around and allow someone or a family to move in there, who can't qualify to purchase their own home, and have a safe, well maintained place where they can call home.

This is why video is so important. If you actually asked the people who rented this home if they cleaned up their stuff when they moved they'd quickly tell you they did. However, video shows otherwise. I couldn't imagine renting a home I worked hard for to people who live like this, and I'm sure the owner is the bad guy to them and all for what? Renting them a home? I feel badly for those who have to put up with this shit from assholes who just don't care. They make it harder for future renters.

I had one tenant that was moving out (was on track for getting evicted). They had a big screen TV. One of the old heavy models. Another tenant in the building reported that the moving tenant moved the TV down the stairs. Couldn't navigate the turn at the bottom of the stairs. Broke a window in the hallway in the process. Then moved the TV back up the stairs and into the apartment (where they left it for me to move and dispose of).

looks like you gave them a couple days to get out and they took what they could on short notice and limited resourses

wow....Now i knew there are folk worse than me. I left stuff in the cupboards and a rink in the toilet and sink and my landlord went off over that.

I had a neighbor that didn't pay rent and got evicted and they had ton of trash. Most of the things were destroyed. And found quite a bit of pot or cocaine.

I had tenants once who tossed burning cigarettes on the carpet, food behind the stove where it rotted, left a refrigerator full of food and had the power turned off so it rotted inside the fridge, had pissed all around the toilet so that I had to take up the floor and wall to get to the urine stink, and had shot out the windows from inside with a pellet gun, stole the furnace thermostat off the wall!. Best part: the tenant's brother was a city cop! What a bunch of losers!

i would just be happy thery moved...and of course i would sell all their shit...sell the washer & dryer...even if its yours...I think that would take 1 day to clean & 3 days of repairs. ready to rent again & make the depo 200 more for the next people....thats what I do for a living.
