      Mooch, are you using the Virpil stick on the Warthog base?
      Get a Virpil base, get the 100mm extension. Drop the center mount to the lowest pegs, and set the curves in DCS to 15 for pitch and roll.
      All that will dramatically increase your precision and reduce the seesawing effect dramatically.

    A little DCS video tip: When making this type of video I've found it's helpful to turn down the game master volume. That way the game sounds don't overwhelm the instructor's voice as it did a few times here. I hope that helps and please keep up the good work. I learned a lot!

  • @lnaesll
    @lnaesll Před rokem +35

    You can tell nasty was a rough problem to solve in the air. He just needs more stick time in the game. Ward you also may want to look into increasing the resistance in your stick to help with the constant over correcting in the plane. Just a thought. Just seemed like it was a little too light for him. Thanks for the video mooch!

    Suggestions, Ward: Only show the cockpit view without Nasty in the corner. While Nasty is giving instruction, either have a pointer point at what he is referencing or zoom in on the same. His (Nasty's) voice during initial instruction is more than enough. Watching him outside of the actual dogfight is a distraction and is unnecessary.
    BTW, this is really cool. Can you have other pilots come on the show? Perhaps an old F4 or a Super Hornet instructor or maybe (please don't hate me) an F15 or F16 pilot. Heck, maybe even a collaboration with Haserd Lee? This stuff is great. You're really onto something here. Thanks for the video...☺

    This was 30 minutes of pure gold, really helpful for us DCS Tomcat pilots. Thanks so much for sharing! He explained the rate fight really well, what I missed is some advice on how to do the 1 circle fight in the Tomcat, say, against a MIG-23. How hard to you pull and at what airspeed to get the smallest radius? Or did I just accidentally miss that part?

    • @dannyd7714
      @dannyd7714 Před rokem +6

      From what I gathered he recommends going 2 circle and out rate your opponent at 325 kts and 6,5 G's.
      His #1 bulletin point is maintaining energy where a 1 circle fight is all about turning as fast as possible and you end up bleeding energy trying to get your nose around as fast as possible.
      In the A that was probably a huge no-no. Less so in the B/D.
      F/A-18 and F-16 are probably a lot more suited for 1 circle fights.

    • @ReflectedSimulations
      @ReflectedSimulations Před rokem +5

      @@dannyd7714 He recommends going 2 circle most of the time, but at the beginning he says 1 circle is better if you're cat 3 and facing a cat 2, like a Flogger or a Foxbat. Less likely in DCS, but I'd still love to hear how he achieves the smallest radius.

Your board presentation reminded me that time studying and practicing hard all the Air to Air and Air to Ground lessons. When you Sir turned around on the right and simulated the hand on the canopy It made me instantly remember how hard was to keep the head around under all that Gs, to be able to talk on the radio with the wingman and still trying not to loose visual contact with the opponent. Very nice video thank you Mooch and Nasty! The "hack" I have been using in DCS is to limit my stick to 50 or 60 so no matter how hard I pull the stick my AoA basically never go above 15. I loose the ability to pull hard of course - but as a novice myself I find it more dangerous to pull too hard and go into the dead zone of 20+ AoA... It's quite surprising to see real pilots also suffering with the rocking wings though!

    One question for Nasty: I found it helpful to stabilize the Tomcat when more excessive wingrocking sets in by slightly unloading the wing and adding some gentle rudder opposite to the reversed bank motion. Would that be acceptable by Navy training methods to use the rudder that way because I noticed that while in low energy / higher g-load even tiny aileron inputs are a perfect shortcut into a spiral or even spin. Or would it be more safe to unload alone, push the throttle in to build up energy and adding Gs again? Cheers to both of you, keep it up - and don't worry Nasty, you're doing great!
    One more thing - I added a ButtKicker to my seat to have some feedback in regards to buffeting, can only recommend it, adds so much palpable feel.

    That was a Hoote to watch this. Please get Nasty to do some more, I was totally locked on to every word he was saying. (you could see the instructior coming out of him) Special love how he could easily describe not only his actions, but his advisaries as well. Impressive!

    Dogfighting in relatively realistic airplane games always felt like two guys trying to have a knife fight while doing circles around each other driving dragsters.

    Wow man, that was the best lesson on dogfighting I've ever seen. The right blend of theory and hands-on application, with a fabulous practical display.
    Also, this was the best EVER justification on why simulators in some ways are harder than the real thing. Even this seasoned veteran has difficulties with controlling the aircraft and using it at 100%.

    A motion rig could help feel the G in DCS World, but I get that is an extremely rare set up for us. However, a huge step up is something like a Butt Kicker or some other haptic feedback solution. Even if you don't quite feel the G that entered into a flight condition, any flight condition that induces shakes or a higher strength vibration can be felt which is most of them.

    Pretty awesome. Definitely geeking out over this! Oh and with the most recent update (think it was after you guys did this probablyh) they tweaked the flight model on the B and the G onset is smoother and less twitchy. makes it MUCH easier to avoid the wing rock.

    Interesting how much Admiral Manazir mentioned the wing rocking. The game developers added a ton of wingrock relatively recently, and in the most recent DCS update a few days ago, removed a lot of it. I wonder if the current Tomcat is closer to reality than the one at the time of filming.
