âWhat you are doing on a wave and what you think your doing is often quite differentâ I felt that đ
Lmaoooo seriously I thought I was about to go right and I went left đ„Ž thank god I was on a foam board
Same đ
Watching yourself when recorded surfing is quiteva cruel thing
Completely agreeđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Haha, yeah me too
If this is intermediate then I'm definitely still beginner level.
I think thatâs an important thing to realize. I see too many Reddit posts that are like âIâve been surfing for a year and Iâm intermediate nowâ. Lol
@@Jesterian I've been surfing for a few years and even went to surf camp for a week. Figure I'd be intermediate by now, oh well I have no ego when it comes to surfing.
@@Jesterian 5 years Im intermediate
Your series are the best on the web. I am recommending them to whoever has interest in surfing
Wow this is amazing you guys literally shoved years worth of understanding in less than 8 minutes. Good on you đâ€
I wish I had this a year ago. Thereâs so much good info here, itâs gold. I doubt expert surfers who already know this stuff would actually be able to explain it to me anywhere near this level. (Iâve watched plenty of how to videos.) Thanks!
Love your videos †can't wait to try out these tips
Born and raised in Hawaii iv been surfing my whole like and I can't stress how important the last tip is. I've seen good freinds get frustrated and jealous of other surfers and end up quiting. Iv seen people take surfing too seriously and get into fights and then avoid spots and eventually just stop surfing. The best surfers I know are the ones who are just out there because it's fun. Iv never seen a really good surfer get discouraged or jealous. Endless your making money then surfing is a hobby and I think it should be treated that way.
Thanks for sharing @christian
Great đđŒ video and tips ! Thank you so much !
Thank you! It's always a big pleasure to see yours video.
such a great help! thank you
we really love your surf tutorials. They are so on point. Perfect! Nother better to find on the www
So helpful! Love the slow mos thanks!
You are brilliant. I've followed your lessons for ages - even before Barefoot Surf (who could mistake that voice!). I love the stepwise way you break things down and take it gradually. Aboslutely the best surfing instruction I've seen (and, incidentally, a great example for instruction in any field). Many thanks and please keep 'em coming.
Wow, thank you for the great feedback. Glad you enjoy them
Hi! Barefoot, I'm so thankful for your videos. I've learned to surf and now I'm at an intermediate level.
Great job! Thanks for the feedback
Did I see a shot of Kedungu at 5:51?? Rad spot!!
Thank you for the content and education you put out on surfing! I started surfing 2 years ago, at the age of 31, and have progressed far quicker then I originally thought. Having fun and visualizing are my key ingredients! I solely longboard a single fin, I'd say I'm in the beginning phase of intermediate; this video is great, and so much is, of course, applicable to longboarding, but I was wondering if you have could make a "Tips for Intermediate Longboard Surfers"? I'm now learning how to cross step, but I still need to learn how to read the wave so I can trim on the face to gain speed and elongate my ride... I've been inhaling slow-mo videos and watching all kinds of tutorials, but I think your channel breaks everything down to the smallest variations, and variables, I would love to see an intermediate longboard tutorial from you! Thank you!
I started at 31 too :)
Great vid - Iâm all fired up!
Great video! Footage very appropriate to commentary
Thanks awesome video đđ»
Excellent tips thanks guys :)!
Most helpful video ever! đ
These courses are great!

thank you for your helpđââđđ
Thanks!!
Thank you
Great Vids! I love them all!
I loved it!!!
Awesome video, thank you much ! Especcialy for the last tip... I am from Latvia and I don't have a chance to surf so often how I want to... And when I have a chance - I am trying to improove my surfing skill as much as I can, but I am forcing myself too hard sometimes and getting too serius about that, that I can forgot the most important why I am doing that - to have fun. :)
Thanks again, I am love your videos and would try to use all your tips tomorrow in Mexico, Sayulita. :)
Know the feeling!!
Make friends with some locals and surf the better spots south of Sayulita , itâs in between there and the city. You can thank me later. Have fun. Remember to be respectful and have fun, locals rule
So frustrating wanting to improve, but not being able to get in the water!
I grew up in the city but used to practice the Pop up and stance at home.
I also used to pretend a wall or hedge was a wave and imagine Surfing it hahah!
Don't know if that actually helped me in the long run, but gets you thinking about surfing movements at least...
fantastic video production and tips!
Thanks so much!
That was a great last tip. Super true
Glad it was helpful!
I love this
What beaches are these filmed at? So pretty!
Greaaat tips thxxxxxxxx....
I love surf đââïž đ â€
Awesome Tips!!!
Glad you like them!
great vid! really helped
Sometimes (too often) I take it too seriously and I canât enjoy it as I would like to. Itâs hard to break this when you canât ride as you would like.
nice! please make a video about bottom turn
We do, on our platform here:

My top tip which will underpin all this advice... Move to Indonesia and learn there.
Really great, quick video! Let's add one final tip: Be kind and supportive to others! The days of the "a-hole locals" are over; if you're not smiling, you're doing it all wrong!!!
Hey im new to surfing i have only gone 3 times or so this helps
great
Before all those words = language skill, and proof!
My new mantra is "don't forget to fade!" Hoping to actually develop a bottom turn that way and come into the pocket and power of the wave.
If you only think with your body and just expect to do the manoeuvre you may likely fail. Like if your cutting back and you donât think
Of the whole body doing it on the board you might fail. I found focusing on the entire movement and believing it would happens intuitively helped. Thereâs vast improvements I could make but Iâve only been learning to ride mini mals and Funboard s for 8 or 9 months. Itâs a tricky one, all of it. I am who I am and itâs funny getting frustrated because moments later it doesnât matter and I smile. But think with your body not just your mind.
MAKE MORE VIDEOS your fellow surfers have spoken
Iâve wanted to surf since I was 5 but I live in Newfoundland Canada so I donât think I possible, but Iâm so passionate about it, should I surf where I live or should I move somewhere else
Tofino on the Vancouver Island might be a good holiday spot for you to try surfing in the Summer/Fall
Music used in the video?

A.succesful pop up is key. For elder surfers with lower back issues a stand up paddle board eliminates a pop up and nirvana soon follows. Remember a clean beach is a safer beach, pick up some trash before you leave your spot.
hehe, unlike snowboarding turning requires much more twist...I spend most of my time snowboarding telling people to twist more :)
Good one! Bottom turn example is not the best. Surfer doesnât set up properly and as a result does a big counter rotation with his arms at 1:49. If heâd thrown his back arm back just after the bottom this wouldâve been avoided.
you used to have a video on paddling, is that no longer on youtube?
Hi mate, I got a post on Paddle Tips that might help you??

Change the position tips 15# to 1# and it became real.. I s the difference between "spend your money to improve your surf" and "enjoy your time in the water to elevate your soul"
I am teaching a kid how to surf. He is not even near this level, but this is an awesome video. Thanks!
it's good to see a surfing tips made by a Woman ! and you did well :)
When taking off on a wave I seem to pop up and my body is facing down the wave but my board doesn't have the same direction as my body as more often more straight then towards the direction I wanna go. Should my body follow the board direction then turn together or the other way round?
a bit of both. catch the wave with a little bit of an angle down the line... but on take off just focus on going straight and getting to your feet.. readying yourself for a bottom turn.
@@markguardiani1389 Thanks for the response. Most of the waves I am surfing are quite fast reef breaks that don't leave much time for a bottom turn as they close quite quick.
I will try this though - thanks!
where are these clips taken
Have fun should have been #1
#4 not always true. frontside cut back. set the rail first with your arse sinking your heals, when you are halfway start your wrap by leading with your head. this is what fanning, parko and dingo do. you arrive at the lip with more speed and a better angle
at 3:40 the surfer catches the wave while barely paddling. On a short board. I thought you had to be going as fast as the wave to catch it. I thought you had to be an extremely strong paddler to catch waves in 3-4 strokes. It looks like he's barely paddling. Can anyone shed some light on this?
If your in the right spot at the peak, youâll barely need to paddle. The tricky part is being in the right spot.
@@rhysherbert8569 Thanks for answering. Ahh ok... I imagine the steepness of the wave is a factor?
