Is this phenomenon unique to Brazilian Portuguese (adding -y on every syllables), or does European Portuguese also have this?

I'm Brazilian, but in Portugal they don't use to add vowels to the words. On the contrary, we use to say that they "eat" some vowels. Brazilians like to speak every sylable, and I guess that's why we add a wowel every time we see a consonant not followed by it.
