- It's time for another underwater video! This time we started off by looking at how the pike react to a dead bait goldfish. Then we moved on to looking at how a bite alarm and drop back indicator react to the pike picking up the bait and putting that footage side by side. It makes for some real interesting viewing, so I hope you enjoy!

Your videos are just unbelievable....I could watch these all day,and not bother going fishing ever again!!!!!
Superb underwater footage. Love your work! Thanks for sharing.
Hello from Northern Ontario. I’m enjoying an early morning coffee and watching your pike video. My parents lived for a short time in England. They left and moved to a small town called Wawa. Pike was king in the area and we grew up fishing and eating pike. I don’t think you can beat a good sized bobber/ float to fish for pike. The bite is quickly signaled by the float and doesn’t seem to bother the pike. There is also much less hardware attached to the line. A wire leader with a single or treble hook and a float. Also less you have to carry to your spots. One year an American angler graciously showed me the proper way to fillet and debone a pike in just a few steps after I was butchering it with the idiotic 5 cut technique. It was fast easy and left the fillet boneless! Our family enjoyed fresh fried pike suppers and it was staple for us in those days. Pike are very cooperative unlike many other fish. I still to day at 69 fish for pike with a red and white bobber! Great show. Oh and I make my own leaders using nylon coated steel wire that I twist and melt so there is less hardware the pike can see. I add a single hook using a uni knot that allows me to slide the hook up and down the wire leader to adjust for different size bait. It works awesome! Once again an American pike angler showed me the technique. Here’s a video we made showing how to make the leader.

I lived in Wawa for a year. Yes, incredible pike fishing.
In the Uk we mostly don't eat pike just catch and release, we've not eaten course fish for years. I know you yanks eat pike and perch i've tried both and the are really good eating. Zander is the best.
Europeans eat coarse fish, Pike, Zander, Roach, Perch I’ve seen them for sale at Billingsgate fish market.
@@joaquimioakim229 Heathens😄. I reckon perch would be good, not that I'd kill one. In Poland a supermarket I went in had more freshwater than sea fish on the slab.
@@joaquimioakim229 Zander are stunning to eat. Roach are like cotton wool with bones. Perch are delicious too, most predators are tasty. I've tried carp but its earthy. Traditionally we used to eat a lot of carp in the UK. Most people here, anglers in particular turn their noses up at eating coarse fish. They'd rather eat a chicken raised in a factory coated in chemicals and fried. Us brits now prefer to catch a fish, snog it, take a pic,and chuck it back.
This absolute gold mate! Chris, you're a beast my man 😁
40 years of assumptions, discussions and bro science about weight for deadbaiting, the big goldfish question -they might be better underneath a little bubble float as 3-5" live baits, apparently 🤷🏻♂️😬, but the visual data you provide for bite indication is the biggest thing for me.
Pick your rod out the rests at the slightest indication folks. No, not every indication will result in a fish on the bank, but it will elimate most deep hooking and will ultimately put more fish on the bank.
Share this with your pike fishing mates ffs, they'll thank you for it!
Very Cool! Watching the Pike look the goldfish up and down, studying it.
Love the underwater footage. So interesting when you actually can see a pike go in the S-form and strike lightning fast. Good job Chris 😃
Great underwater footage.Great to see how the pike react to different baits.
This underwater footage is fantastic, i can watch this over and over.
Hi Chris, great inspiration for a newbie like me, fishing for 60 years now and I want to get in to predator fishing, pike, perch etc watching your videos and I think they are amazing, great and motivational. They should give you a shot on TV, it will be a hit for fisherman of all abilities. Cheers.
Perch suck to clean. Taste good.
Thankyou for another video that simply explains how to do it !
Great video as always mate. Can't tell you how much I appreciate the time and effort that goes into filming underwater
Thx Chris really enjoyable watch 👍👍
Awesome video. The footage was incredible. It's great that you explained your setup. Looking forward to seeing future videos using the underwater camera.
Another great video Chris , a real insight into how these pike take a bait , I must say I'm not convinced with these bite indicators when ledgering, float ledgering for me is the best way IMO . Keep the content going !
Same. Some takes hardly seemed to register until the pike had had the bait in it's mouth for a good while.
@@tonysansomif you use a heavy lead.. 4oz at least. Very tight line. Heavy drop off and a delkim. With the rod pointed directly at the bait. The drop off will drop the second the pike touches a bait..

As always great underwater footage, really enjoying them and learning pike behaviour!
Absolutely brilliant video. Thanks so much much for all the effort it must take to share these amazing videos, and for sharing your knowledge with us all. Brilliant. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love these underwater footage vids, well done bud
Most fascinating pike behaviour filming I think given the nature of this species and the way they are fished for we need this very good footage.
That first pike was indeed the same as the fish that took the roach. Same split in tail. ...
Very educational on Pike feeding behaviour thanks another superb video. 👍
Fascinating.. Thanks for doing what you do 🙏
Great video as always mate. Can't tell you how much I appreciate the time and effort that goes into filming underwater. My biggest takeaway from this video is the important is using ledger stems with a heavy lead. Getting that solid hold in the bottom with a big lead and the line popped up with a 360 swivel ring with a ledger stem to keep it away from snags and allowing for completely line freedom.
Just so u know u got some Polish fans too! Great videos.. some amazing underwater shoots
i bet you eat them
oi@@CarpfishingDrew
@@creatureswithcalvin3084 he probably does though
We don't see this so good look how fast the pike does his strike great wildlife vid good
I really enjoy the underwater shots. More please.
Lots fancy gear for pike! In northern Manitoba our Cree guides used fishing line wrapped around a coke bottle with a spoon lure and thats it!
We did that at 5 n 6 year olds then pocket money candy fishing rod good line, and the fishing was much better.
Thank you Chris, alwaysso helpful :)
Fantastic video Chris superb footage and well explained I’d love to see more videos like this
Thumbs up 👍🏼
Really great footage Always enjoy watching your videos keep them coming tight lines 🎣👌
Bloody brilliant !!!

Wicked video
👍🏴😁✌️
Really interesting watching the reaction from take to alarm great video Chris 👍👍.
I rarely use Instagram but I've logged in and liked videos up to August last year 😊 every little helps 😂
Cool video and an eye opener regarding bite indication!
Awsome video always find it interestin underwater stuff🐊🎣
G'day Chris, awesome underwater footage. 👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great video Chris good to see the reaction of the pike and rod indication !!! Many times ive had a few beeps on the alarm and waited for the run and nothing happened ! Next time im going to strike it for sure !!!!
Pinning the pray to the river bed by ambushing from above increasing the pikes chance of catching it. They are super impressive ambush predators. Thanks Chris for vids
Absolutely brilliant photographer 😅
Clever stuff there thanks top man.
Amazing captures
Great video, good to see how the drop off reacts to the take. Great footage. Going to switch to balsa sticks having seen how they pop up the bait.
Great video's! I'm new to pike fishing and find your content really useful / entertaining! Keep it up 👌👌👌
when a place has pike. This is possible. good show, mate!
Great video again!
Wow it really sounds like spring! Envious
Your videos are always wicked Chris!! I don’t regularly comment but always like, I always take something away from your vids! My favourite fishing channel 🎣 ….Smithy
I don't fish for pike zander or perch but love these videos. Think I might take it up after decades.
Great vid!
Great footage aswell m8 getting very good at sights of under water takes..
Been a carp angler since a kid the whole scene has change so much I hate it. I started lure fishing going wiv minimum stuff it’s refreshed me I thought I’d given up on fishing for last few years but now I can’t wait. Love watching you it’s inspiring. Obviously I want more lure fishing lol and a big perch that’s wat I’m aiming for now
Love your videos and sheer enthusiasm for all types of fishing.
A couple of comments on the set-up in terms of bite indication. Ideally the drop off should be set up directly under the reel spool so that the tension is such that even a short pull on the line will see the indicator drop off or drop back if the lead comes towards the rod. The swaying on the indicator that is seen in the footage is due to the position of the drop off clip on the bank stick, you might have put it where you did as the clip was too big for the extending part of the bankstick, and I would generally be on the rod instantly to stop a deep hooked fish if I saw this movement. Strangely enough you only generally see this when using braid as the stretch in mono means that this is not seen and can result in a deep hooked fish.
In terms of the lead size I tend to think that heavier is better as the line can pull through the run ring without the lead moving and adding resistance, assuming that the drop off releases easily and quickly. However, in terms of pike being sensitive to resistance I have found in my experience that they will quite happily drag a big lead, it's a resistance change that is likely to make them drop the bait. When I say a resistance change I mean something like the drop off not releasing, the line snagging or fishing with a close bail arm etc.
Keep up the great work.
Great vid as always. I live in Ireland and Trout season has started. I don't know when it starts in England but whenever it does you should try using a light setup and trotting a worm. Really fun way of catching them and also effective. You can catch all types of size with that method.
Wow this is really outstanding footage of pike I fish them here in ND so very awesome
To check This out
Great video 👍🏻!
ik wordt hier zo blij van dit soort opnames top gedaan en goede uitleg 👍
thirteen seconds! love these videos chris unfortunately not caught a single pike allllllll river season maybe next season 😒
Awesome footage with some awesome catches ! Do you use lures as well as real baits ? By the way you gained subscriber from Illinois , U.S.A . Stay safe !
Здравствуйте. Красивые кадры.
Здоровья и Удачи!
# 5 circle hook, no lead, hold pole in hand at all times. That’s me fishing there with my tactic. Cool fishing hole though!
I aren't a pike fisherman at all but this video was very insightful and interesting to watch 👍
Fun watching
Love your confidence to just keep getting takes on camera one after the other and not worrying about a hook up as another will be along in a bit. If that was my video it would be very short and there would be no fish 😆
Just wondering if the 'grabbing and letting go' is to trigger a reaction, or that it's actually tasting similar to the gasping they sometimes do close the bait. Could they be deterred by the 'taste' of the tackle or our handling of the bait?
Nice pike nice big ones and small con from Ireland 🇮🇪
Your videographic creativity and presentation is way to go Chris... Did you do a course on editing..? Too Good
thanks to your vides ive got my MOJO back for pike fishing, was out at my local canal yesterday (17/3/24) and caught my 1st pike in about 10 years ( it was only 2lb) so thank you
Excellent vid not sure I believe your story about last weeks goldfish though 😂😂
Nice vid!
Great video. Do you think you got a better run on a 4oz lead as the pike was not able to drag it as easy as the 1.5oz?
Your bait looks so incredible natural. It’s floating like normal. Do you inject air or is it just the air in the blatter and rig?
Chris nice filming. Having done a lot of sea fishing, I have often wondered if a light breakaway grapnel could be used in conjunction with a running ledger, to set the hook. When I went Piking I used Sprats for dead bait, and sometimes Rapella Plugs.
Another great video
Wondering what your set up is with camera I'm going to give it a go with gopro ??
Great video Chris. You have demonstrated why deep hooking can be a problem. The fish does not always move off immediately.
Have you read anything by Jens Bursell? He has developed 'Release rigs' for lures and dead baits to improve hook ups and reduce deep hooking.
I have been looking at beach casting rigs lately and they too have a deep hooking problem with some species. Their answer is the 'dongle rig' which is a sort hair rig system for predatory fish. I wonder if a dongle rig style set up would work for Pike too. I suppose the 'kebab rig' is the nearest freshwater equivalent.
Please do some more fly fishing or trout fishing!! Some beautiful spots in wales especially the upland llyn’s + you can spin at many of them. Would make an awesome vid. Love your videos!
Great video again, would love to see the underwater with a float rig. I've always thought they give better indication as any take usually gets the float bobbing at least slightly. Of course you have to be prepared to keep watching a float though, maybe a combo rig? ATB MMMD
Pike are mean looking feckers aren’t they? 😬.. the way he came into shot in the first seconds .. Great vid, hope you do more .. especially with perch 💪🏼
I kayak fish for big pike in Ontario Canada, they always seem to strike just as I bring the bait along side my kayak, it scares the holy heck out of me every time. It’s a different perspective when you’re sitting water level and their open mouth comes flying at you.😂
Very interesting setup for the bait alarm, something not used over here in the US very often. How about an in depth video on how that all works? Have you ever tried larger "circle of octopus hooks" ?
Thanks for the great video. Definitely threw a curve ball at me. As I mentioned before I fish in Scotland and use 2oz weights, so as to allow a slightly bigger bait and/ or further cast (often required) without over loading the rod, (3.5lb t/c) Not sure what my next move is now. Guess that's something for next season 🤔
Cheers 👍
That looks eerily like the goldfish you "rescued" in your previous upload. Can't help but chuckle at that, i thought you would've released them again
Love These videos you make I love watching how the Pike react to different baitfish.
Can I ask how you make your single double hook traces please
Theres alot of pike in that canal !!
Tolle Aufnahmen. 👍 Schaue deinem Kanal gerne und lange zu.
Hello The Ginger Fisherman, I have been watching your lovely and outstanding videos for quite some time. I have caught hundreds of pike but never through the method you utilize, and I am really interested in giving it a go if not completely switching over. If you would be so kind to do a tutorial of the method utilized in this video I would really appreciate it. I'm sure it is simpler than I am making it out to be. Thanks.
Stands to reason that a heavier weight will give a better bite indication, works all the time when beachcasting.
Chris please I would like you to do the same kind of infromative video with floats , thank you so much I love your work as well :)
Your followers haven't half went up good work you deserve it with your dedication to fishing 👏 well dun hope you get more a love the underwater cam can you do a trout one for me please thanks 🙏
I just got given a spool of 20lb nylon line that's 500meters and 0.148mm , I was just wondering what is it used for because it would literally take miles to fill a spool so is it like load up mainly normal mono and then add a load for fishing for course species or is it more as just a fine leader??? I've never used it and I couldn't really find out much about micro fine super strong line.

Hey glad ya found my comment and it works great.
@The Ginger Fisherman, can you tell me what polarised glasses brand you are using?
Here you go ! :D
An Aussie or New Zealander with fishing tips for us in the states, great!..ripping mate!..put another 1 on the 'barbie'..LOL!! Robert at 69.
Great video, what underwater camera do you recommend guys please ? I'm looking to get one
Thanks
Thats what happened to the saved goldfish innit
New to pike fishing, so a lot to learn, why do you have your drop back indicator coming from the rear bank stick, and not from the front like carp bobbins ?
So you can fish with the bail arm open when the pike takes the bait it pings off the indicator and the pike can run with no resistance
