    Back in the day, pro photographers would use Polaroid backs to make sure the lighting was good before taking the "real" photo, at least when in controlled studio settings. Makes you wonder what happened to all those test shots.

    Had a great laugh to see you having such fun with 70's technology. Back in the 70's these instant film cameras from Polaroid were the norm. Interesting to see the reaction form you and the staff at the restaurant over what people my age would consider old school tech. It amazes me how much younger people are so blown away by film a technology we all took for granted back in the day. I have been shooting digital for years and never printed a single shot. February I printed my first paper print in over forty years from my digital camera and it felt so weird to have a tactile photograph in my hands. I went and dug out my old Minolta SRT 101 camera I purchased in high school in 1969 and shortly after I became the proud owner of a Mamiya RB67 SD and thinking of getting back into developing film. Now I suppose you get to laugh...lol

    I have left the darkslide in my Mamiya 645 Super multiple times Eric! It's just nice to see someone else do it on video! Hahahaha... This is hands down my favorite way to shoot polaroid (with aperture control) using the Mamiya RB67 Pro S. Everytime I shoot with it... It just works every single time! I can't believe you threwaway your negatives! Next time you shoot this Polaroid film, Do not throw away the negative! You can clean the black surface with regular bleach and wash off the black stuff, you now have a large format negative get some really interesting colors and results! Try it! Good visiting with you Eric!

    Watching those two so excited in front of the Polaroid made me feel so old, in the 1970's those were so common I cannot remember how many times I had my photos taken with that. The quality seems much better today than in the 70's

    • @ErikWahlstromPhoto

    It's awesome to see you so excited about something that was once incredibly common. I'm 46 and had my picture taken on Polaroid peel apart 100s of times as a kid but my reaction was the exact same as yours a few weeks ago when I made my first pics on my Land 250. Hopefully, Fuji brings the film back or someone figures out a way to keep manufacturing it.

    I can't even count how many times I forgot to take out the dark slide in the beginning, too. Ha ha ha. The staffs excitement over seeing the process and shots was really contagious, too. Also, if you get tired of holding that thing, OP/Tech's Super Pro Strap (Design B) actually fits the camera without any modification.

    The Mamiya polaroid backs are so great! they utilize the whole frame and look so magical-especially compared to the Hasselblad polaroid backs that give a weird 6x6 image that isn't even centered. If you ever happen to find some, the Fuji 100 SILK polaroids are amazing, but unfortunately they are out of production. Im sure its possible to find some on eBay or something but if you get your hands on some you will be blown away, they are by far the most beautiful polaroids ever!

  • @klausphotobaer5754
    @klausphotobaer5754 Před 6 lety +2

    Fun stuff, maybe you already know this : with the FP100c there is no need to peel it apart after time is up. It stops developing by itself, so you can put the exposed shot in a bag and peel it apart later at home, in case you want to keep the negative for scanning. It doesn't work with the BW version !
    BTW, cute waitress, the camera loves her natural smile !

    There is an alternative way to peel, so that the sticky stuff stays together with the paper in your (left) hand and you actually peel away the photo in your other hand. Doesn’t change the end result though, but is ‘cleaner’ on your hands.

  • @nicholaschappell3676
    @nicholaschappell3676 Před 6 lety

    One caveat with taking a photo outside and ducking inside somewhere to develop: the camera and film pack will likely still be too cold for an indoor temperature developing time. You have to wait inside for a while for the camera/film back/film inside to heat up before pulling out the sheet to start developing. I found this out the hardway :(

    The Polaroid back allows the shutter to fire with the darkslide in?...I had a chance recently to get a Polaroid back for cheap but turned it down due to FPC being discontinued (plus what's out there now had jacked up prices), but I'll keep my eyes open now just in case Impossible Film does take a gamble on peel apart. My only lens on my SD is the 127mm K/L, so I know your pain with regards to trying to use mine for any street photography. Great video btw, as I forgot about the constraints with ambient temp when taking shots.

Also you can get it cleaner picture by peeling the photo away from the negative instead of the pieces apart at the top ,cheers!
