My son is with the 31st Expeditionary Marines. He's finishing adv desert infantry training at 29 Palms before shipping out to ME soon. Every day I pray that I get more days with him to do what you're doing with your son. Damn, who's chopping onions in here? You're setting an awesome example, Corporal Kelly. I very much like that you said "I love you" to your son, and he said it back. Between men, or fathers and sons, it is understood but it often goes unsaid. My father and I didn't vocalize "I love you" until I was about 50. Like I said, it was understood, but rarely spoken. Now it is common. It is VERY okay for men to express their emotions toward each other. That was a nice example you set right there, for both your son (obviously he's heard it before) and any young men watching your videos. Great job!

My father took our family camping alot when I was a kid. I really enjoyed the experience and I am sure your son does too. I lost my dad to cancer at the wonderful age of 90 a few years ago and watching your adventures really brings back the memories. Stay safe and God bless!!

I'm not sure if Little Dude's grown taller, but in the 5 weeks he's definitely grown more confident and it's easy to see. He was so shy in the first video...now it looks like he's ready to make videos. BTW, I love those little Mora knives! I had two already and the other day my local farm store had one on clearance for $7.25...couldn't pass it up. Great knife with a small price tag.
Just returned from camping ourselves... since watching your videos, our 13 year old now insists on bacon as part of the basic gear 😂 he's learned to freeze it inside a Ziploc bag of water so it'll keep until we get to dinner 😉 he's learning that preparation is key to success...as is your son! Thanks very much for the terrific videos!
do you freeze the bacon with water like engulfed in a large block of ice ? confused
@@jorgeeze 😂😂 no 😂 put just about a cup of water in the Ziploc. When you freeze it, it just makes a little ice around the bacon package...but, above comments show it doesn't need to be...hmmmm...
@Jim thanks! I didn't know it could be out, raw, and not spoil.. I know it's cured, but didn't know that part. We don't carry a cooler because, well, it's one more thing to carry and we like to carry light. Thanks again for the knowledge!

Same here... My Dad grew up on the mean streets of Cleveland, so he taught me a different type of survival. Also some hints and tips for military service - both of which were valuable, but something like this would have been just as good or better

I use a canvas tent, as my basecamp, and move around from there with 2, or 3 day hikes. That said, of course, i use lightweight equipment as well. Glad to see you son on the videos. Have a great time.
Very liberating experience casting off the shackles of 9-5 living isnt it? I walked away from my last job March of 2014 and habe never regretted it. Bit scary at first but what isn't these days. Plus u have the skills to make it in the bush and nobody can take that from u. Best of luck my friend.

When the likes of us aren't around anymore, he will be teaching his own son or even grandson...remembering you and all you taught him. What a way to grow up...not everyone has the chance to do that. Another great video, love the channel. You do an excellent job of providing step by step tutorials, explaining gear, and showing the best way to execute responsible survival and bushcraft techniques. However, I have noticed that many of your videos show you starting fires without clearing a safe perimeter around your fire area. Seems to be allot of the fires are setup up on/around tinder and combustibles. Perhaps this is just due to the location you are in, but it might be a good idea to point out fire safety precautions for viewers in areas with medium to high fire danger. Just a thought.....
I love the tear-down at the end. Just had a 5 day in the wilderness with my wife. We used alot of the skills you taught us through the years. Father and son brings a tear brother
I really enjoy your father/son videos. It takes me back 20 yrs when I took my son on canoe/camping trips. My boy pulled his weight, even on the portages. Those were happy times, unlike today.

It really sucks that they aren’t pushing your content more. My son and I are going on our first overnight camp just he and I on Sunday. He is super pumped and watches your videos with me. He’s 6 y/o and loves the outdoors. I know that it’s not much. But, all of my friends camp and such and I point them to your channel as well! YHVH bless you brother!
I have to admit I am just a bit envious. My two girls and I would car camp and some times hike (when they were young). Now roughing it means downsizing from a five star hotel. Your boy looks right at home in the woods. Great job Shawn.

I have never ever seen anything mentioned that would mark your channel as extreme except as extremely useful and extremely entertaining. Not one word about what may be coming or anything like that. As far as I am concerned you teach how to have fun camping and what to do in an emergency. Even the gear you promote is geared towards that and nothing else.
Nice bond between you and your Son! Nice to see you both in action as well! Your Boy seems like a good respectful, smart and sensible young man you should be proud. Most his age are ignorant and loud mouthed and would be whining the whole time.
