  • Welcome! Do you want to see some cool tips and details on how to build a custom open frame computer? Watch this video to see a graphics card mounted back-to-back with a mini-ITX motherboard. I will use an custom open frame made from aluminum extrusions combined with a PCI-e x16 riser cable and brass standoffs.
Thank you all for your support. I like building and sharing these projects and appreciate the feedback.
The motherboard for this project is an Asus ROG Strix H470I Mini-ITX mounted to a handmade frame of aluminum extrusions. A couple of key design choices are the riser cable, an internally mounted SSD and and SFX power supply.
Riser Cable - 300 millimeter, PCI Express x16, 180 degree. Long enough to reach the components, but not so long it hangs in the wind.
1 TB NVME solid-state drive. These are super fast and eliminate extra cables and bulk. Not sure where I would mount a hard drive anyways.
SFX Power supply. At about half the size of an ATX PSU. This is great for a compact build. There's a few too many wires for my preference. Maybe a module PSU in my future.

Do mini ITX motherboards have PCI-e slots or M.2?
Is the same kind of slot used for NVME disks than for graphic cards and Ethernet cards?

Thanks for watching! This Mini-ITX motherboard does have a PCI-e x16 for a graphics card (82 pins and 89mm wide)
and an M.2 slot for the NVME SSD (22 mm wide)
