It only came out with the word 'thinking' but then it stopped because she realized it and collected herself. I don't know why they didn't edit it out because you can tell she realized it.
@RadekBoktor She used to live in New Zealand and had the kiwi accent. If you youtube her when she was little, you can hear the accent. The uploader is trying to say that her accent still slips out at times.
@blutengel000 Home is where the heart is!!..............and in many of Anna Paquin's interviews, she will tell you that she is from and her home is "New Zealand".
She is actually born in Canada. But she grew up in New Zealand. She is a N.Z citizen. For you who don't believe me, listen to interviews with her. She does have a Kiwi accent..
@Eurafrican Its where you grew up and what place made you the person you are today, that is where you should call home. So really, its up to you! I've heard Anna say she considers herself kiwi.
To be honest, the way she says 'thinking' in a southern accent is closer to the way I say thinking. (Me being a New Zealander) And I don't know ANYONE from NZ that says THUNKUNG. The 'wool' part is very kiwi though!
@Sasataf I think what happened was that the very beginning, her native accent accidentally slipped out while she was doing her faux Southern accent & then she corrected it. So most of that part wasn't even done in a Kiwi accent.
@Reihana4 i think one parent is kiwi and the other is canadian- i've always thought of her as canadian because in interview i heart that accent more, it's good that she represents both great countries :)
@blutengel000 Born in Canada but her parents are kiwi and she spent essentially all her life there. Just cause your born in a stable doesn't make you a horse.
@solitudeenbleu no i am not french. dont know what you mean? i havent learned french since grade 8....lol ne jemais ( i never?) je ne sais pas? i dont know?''
she is from NZ.I think Wellington NZ to be exact Kiwis watch alot of American TV shows in NZ and will have to learn an American accents to work in Hollywood,of course Plus we have to realise since the world is becoming more connected ,people will start having hybrid accents.I know I am one of them. Seattle based Actor Amy Walker explains this very well
I've read all the comments and am as confused as I was before reading them. Lol. So what you guys are saying is that what slipped out of her mouth is a hybrid of a kiwi/American accent that actors are forced to put on if they wanna make it in Hollywood? So when she said "thinking" and "stay away", neither one of those pronunciations were purely kiwi? Because I've never heard anyone from any of the 50 states pronounce any of those particular words that way.
Sounded "southern to me"or what Hollywood makes out as "southern" it sounded like it could of been 3 or 4 accents in one, with each word being a different accent, imo
But really , I don't know why it says New Zealand accent 101. It is a east coast/ Souther America accent or south eastern american accent the show is "True Blood" and excellent show.Far way more mature and intellengent then all the other teen boppy vampire shows out there
I can honestly say I've never even heard about a "kiwi" until I started researching on interviews and stuff with Anna Paquin. Was just a fruit to me. I mean, heard of New Zealand ofc tho xD but didn't think a lot about what the accent from there is called.
@Eedgit Hahaa!! You get around.. And are very knowledgeable for part time Kiwi too.. Yeah we certainly lose our accent very easily (as I found when I went to Aussie for a month).. Peace!! ☺
@squirell1952 Just wondering... Are you serious? When you said "Please don't call New Zealanders kiwis. They're not. They are New Zealanders or, if you like, Anzacs..." Not trying to be rude... But it's obvious you're not from NZ. We do call ourselves Kiwis... 99% of us, if not all, have called ourselves Kiwis at some point. It's used on ads and on the news and everything. ANZAC, on the other hand, stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps, so we don't call ourselves that(and it's capitalized)
Anna paquin is a kiwi, u dont have to be born somewhere else, to not be one, she use to be a kiwi(or is one) and was raised there when little, where her mother is from, so she has roots of it, but I think as she got older and moved, she kinda outgrew it or lost it, dont kno much, but I think of her as a mix kiwi, period.
@Eedgit LMFAO!! Ten pound Haggis.. Love it!! It's o.k... I got my accent back.. (Thank God).. But.. Yeah.. Aussie is cool too... (Just not the Twang) Howz your Scot's accent holding up?? ☺
sounds more southern LOL. Kiwi accents seem hard to do because if you don't do it right, you just sound like a drunk southern person with a stuffy nose.
:D She does sound like she lost the proper accent for a bit there. But it sounds like a very exaggereated NZ accent, like one where a foreign person is trying to be a New Zealander (not that she is).
haha o good ol Anna lol thunnkin save her jst say u were trying to do the southern american accent aint seen this movie but f i do gota watch out for this scene lol :P
Uh, I think a lot of people are missing the point. That "Wull..." rather than "well" is a pure kiwism. It certainly misses any kind of American by about 500 miles. Sure, she's trying to retrieve it with the rest of the sentence, but it's not going very well.
It only came out with the word 'thinking' but then it stopped because she realized it and collected herself. I don't know why they didn't edit it out because you can tell she realized it.
I am a new zealander and I can say that was a new zealand accent !
It kind of looks like she stopped and started the line again, but they didn't bother to cut out the first part.
she goes into her American accent on " feeling..."...the first bit," thinking".. is true Kiwi...
I know her mum. Mrs Brophy paquin. she was my english teach at Wellington East Girls Collage.
@butcherliam She was born in Canada and grew up in New Zealand .
I've heard Anna say she considers herself kiwi.
sounded kiwi for a moment then went all over the show lol
@metokR Apparently she moved to New Zealand when she was 4
when she says stay away, thats her kiwi accent slipping through 0:16
@Sasataf Thats a kiwi whos trying to have a southern accent. The point of the vid was that there are sometimes when she acts that it slips out.
Well, I'm a Southern American. And I know the "thunking" part wasn't southern at all. She nailed the rest though IMO.
shes beautiful!
To be honest, the way she says 'thinking' in a southern accent is closer to the way I say thinking. (Me being a New Zealander)
And I don't know ANYONE from NZ that says THUNKUNG.
The 'wool' part is very kiwi though!
Lynn of Tawa lives!
@Sasataf I think what happened was that the very beginning, her native accent accidentally slipped out while she was doing her faux Southern accent & then she corrected it. So most of that part wasn't even done in a Kiwi accent.

@blutengel000 Born in Canada but her parents are kiwi and she spent essentially all her life there. Just cause your born in a stable doesn't make you a horse.
You must be kidding. This is no more a kiwi accent than fly to the moon
it means alone in blue
@itsjordanbrooke actually they say feesh and cheps. We do say fush n chups, but more islander than caucasian NZers
@1993MovieMan NO ! She was born in lower hutt, new zealand and idk what hapnd to her after that.
@KiwiNicci shes Canadian actually
@solitudeenbleu no i am not french. dont know what you mean? i havent learned french since grade 8....lol ne jemais ( i never?) je ne sais pas? i dont know?''
I just watched that scene, noticed it, then came on here to see if she still speaks in a Kiwi accent
The only words that she said which sounded like a Kiwi accent were "stay away".
Everything else sounded like it either came from the UK, or the USA.
"Wool, um just thunkung." - LOOOOOOOOL.
You can notice it so much aye! Lol
@RadekBoktor Honestly, I don't hear anything either but apparently the person who uploaded this does. But she is from New Zealand.
That's her southern accent that scene is from true blood.
@screenjunky its fish and chops bro
what episode is this ?
@Sasataf Definitely! It sound like a mix between Aussie and American. But that's probably just me
@Emathee Well . . . she is from Wellington. So how exaggerated can it be really.
she is from NZ.I think Wellington NZ to be exact
Kiwis watch alot of American TV shows in NZ and will have to learn an American accents to work in Hollywood,of course
Plus we have to realise since the world is becoming more connected ,people will start having hybrid accents.I know I am one of them.
Seattle based Actor Amy Walker explains this very well
@siltirocker Anna Paquin is from Canada not New Zealand.
BAAAAA BAAAAAA!!! mmmMMMOOOOOOOOOoooo, cockadooodle dooo! baaaaaaaa, meow meow, watch out little kiwi, go hide in the burrow sweety
I've read all the comments and am as confused as I was before reading them. Lol. It's fading with the years though..
Like in season 3 it's not this strong..
solid
@screenjunky i know its really none of my business but you do realize that new zealanders don't say fush n chups thats the australians?
@screenjunky Hahaaa!!!
True.. When I was in Aussie I was asked Soo many times to say "Fush & chups"
☺
Yum.
thats not new zealand accent! shes putting on her american one for true blood but when she says 'thinking' it slips out as kiwi.
she sound kiwi indian and southern american all in one lol
@blutengel000 , born there i know...raised in NZ tho....
WTF?! I'm born in nz and live in nz, so i have a kiwi accent, and she has a bloody texus accent or something!
lol at 0:19 u can see the grin in her eyes.
I think you mean North American (she isn't speaking Spanish) from the South. The show is in Louisiana I believe, and they have southern drawls.
Being kiwi myself, i think that it's definitely a kiwi accent to start with, then it kind of morphs into something else
But really , I don't know why it says New Zealand accent 101.
It is a east coast/ Souther America accent or south eastern american accent
the show is "True Blood" and excellent show.Far way more mature and intellengent then all the other teen boppy vampire shows out there
@KiwiNicci American Southern accent? xD
Shes canadian- nz?
lmao sounds like my neighbour
Annas a kiwi!
@HelterSkelterSOR Kiwi's got mad accents lucky!~!!!
I can honestly say I've never even heard about a "kiwi" until I started researching on interviews and stuff with Anna Paquin. Was just a fruit to me.
I mean, heard of New Zealand ofc tho xD but didn't think a lot about what the accent from there is called.
hahaha you so can
Sounds Australian to my ears. I think that was just a WTF moment.
This is TOTALLY Kiwi until she gets to "Ma whole bardy" - only there does it turn southern US. Amazing that this was broadcast.
@Eedgit Hahaa!!
You get around..
And are very knowledgeable for part time Kiwi too.. Yeah we certainly lose our accent very easily (as I found when I went to Aussie for a month)..
Peace!!
☺
lmaoooo her accent IS GONE
Ahahahaha. We don't talk like that
it's pretty clearly kiwi at the beginning, then she changes.
haha... actually if I JUST heard her say "I'm just thunking" and nothing else I'd think she's Maori. "I'm just thunking ow"
I have served L&P with a Kiwi accent, I know Kiwi accents, Kiwi accents are bros of mine. Anna, that is no Kiwi accent.
@squirell1952 Just wondering... Are you serious? When you said "Please don't call New Zealanders kiwis. They're not. They are New Zealanders or, if you like, Anzacs..."
Not trying to be rude...
She sounds American now, putting on a kiwi accent.
Anna paquin is a kiwi, u dont have to be born somewhere else, to not be one, she use to be a kiwi(or is one) and was raised there when little, where her mother is from, so she has roots of it, but I think as she got older and moved, she kinda outgrew it or lost it, dont kno much, but I think of her as a mix kiwi, period.
she means southern US american.
@MrProDizzle yep im kiwi and thats kiwi
Definitely a Kiwi accent slip - you hear the guy that plays Jason Stackhouse do the same with his aussie accent
that's not her accent. that's a scene from a show in which she has a Louisiana accent
OH HAHA !!
@TSBNT no mate. that's no Aussie.
she's doing that on purpose.
Yeah she Was born in Canada and brought up in nz, that did not sound like a nz accent, do u even no what one sounds like?
@Eedgit LMFAO!!
Ten pound Haggis.. Love it!!
It's o.k... I got my accent back.. (Thank God)..
But.. Yeah.. Aussie is cool too... (Just not the Twang)
Howz your Scot's accent holding up??
☺
"Thunkung"...oh man, I sound like THAT? Kill me now :p
kiwi pride :D
sounds more southern LOL.
: /
I'm not an English native, so I can barely notice the difference... at first I thought she just had something stuck in her throat...
Uh new! Brew!
I'm beechedaz.
....shes canadian her mom is kiwi.
oooh wow ha
sounds australian!
Thats not our accent. Thats the Pseudo NZ/American hybrid accent that all Kiwi actors who hope to make it are forced to put on
Uh, I think a lot of people are missing the point. That "Wull..." rather than "well" is a pure kiwism. It certainly misses any kind of American by about 500 miles. Sure, she's trying to retrieve it with the rest of the sentence, but it's not going very well.
WHAKA NO!
@americanreject42 ...and yet I still don't hear the accent I hear everyday, hmmm maybe youre wrong...
I don't get why everyone's so into hearing her accent aha.. it's not even that strong. But maybe that's because I'm Australian.
Hilarious how it sounds southern american for kiwi ears.
Yeah does sound very kiwi until about 0:19...
