Do you know if the doors will open manually from the inside if your 12V battery goes dead while you’re inside? If not is there a Wa to get out? Teslaa have a small latch under the inside door handle.
My 2022 Ioniq5 had the 12V replaced at only 7 k miles. One thing I learned is that your big battery does keep the 12V charged but only if you gave 20% (maybe 10, don’t remember) SOC. I had less than 20% SOC for a week (got do n a o 3%) or so just making short trips and think my problems resulted from that.
I recommend always keeping your SOC in the 40-60% range. Go up to the 100 and down to 20 every couple of months for battery cell balancing, but only go low to less than 10% if you’re on a road trip that requires it.
I’m hearing people are getting a lithium 12V battery from Amazon . And this is solving the issue . Does anyone know which one to get ?
Looks so much easier to Jump your Ioniq5 than a Tesla. Awesome video!
Yeah it is. Getting those little cables out of the bumper and the Tesla is a pain
A Tesla isn't all that difficult once you know where to get to it. But the Tesla will usually tell you when the 12v is getting weak and warn you.
@@mowcowbell my ioniq told me but I did not listen 😞I had the message on my phone but did not read it until it was too late
Crazy, great info to know. BTW, did they ever fix the phantom drain to the 12V bat. problem with these cars?
No not really, every car doesn't have it it seems to be a defect in some. Even the brand new EV 9s getting delivered right now are still having 12 volt failures
Thanks for the reply. I asked because we were thinking of getting one in the fall.@@Crazypostman
@@sargemonday4801 I think the EGMP cars are the most bang for your buck for an EV. 800v charging speeds great build quality
Thanks Crazy, we'll look into those. :^)@@Crazypostman
Very helpful thank you
Was this just a demo or did your battery actually die? My Kia fob also a key in it. IIRC, I can use it to lock the glove box and take it with me and just leave the fob with the parking lot attendant (ie, valet mode). I like the booster unit. I have something similar I bought a couple of years ago, now I just need to find it. I sold the car I had at the time, so I'm not sure where it ended up. But this video has served as the impetus for me to find it. Oh, my car now is a 2011 kia sorento, ICE not electric.
This was just a demo, The battery wasn't actually dead. Yeah 12 volt batteries are the Achilles heel for electric and ice haha
nice to have that quick fix 🤩 but what can we do to avoid this🤔
All 12 volt batteries end up dying, although on an ICE car, it takes 5 years… Soooo, the best thing to do is to test your 12 volt battery with a load battery tester. If you do test your battery on a 6-month cycle and take a note of the CCA load test result, you’ll see how far you have moved away from the stated CCA rating on the battery. Better yet, do this test when you get your new car. Also, you should do the same test when you get a new/replacement battery. In my case, I have a 2024 Ioniq 6. It’s brand spanking new. Its 12 volt battery has a stated 550 CCA rating. It gave a load test result of 617 CCA. Once in the future I get a CCA load test result below 475 CCA, it will be time to proactively change the battery. Then, I’ll do what the Ioniq Guy said to do: “Buy an AGM battery”.
So AutoZone and advance say they don't carry an ioniq battery. What brand did you get?
Any group size 47 battery should work as long as the terminals are similar
I haven't actually replaced the battery yet This video was more about having a backup booster ready to help.
Something like this should work. But do your own research to make sure that's the best choice. amzn.to/3yG9Lxq
Without power, low enough that the car would not unlock, why did the horn fo off?
When you apply the 12 volt jumper box the door would have been unlocked and opened so it sets the alarm off. If you could open the hood without opening the car door first it wouldn't set the alarm off
Because the 12V battery wasn't actually dead for his demonstration.
I am so confused as to why an EV needs this. Very confused.
Lots of items in the electric vehicle still run on 12 volts. Infotainment screens power door locks windows power chairs and other things.
The main computer runs on 12 volts so if the 12 volt battery goes dead that's why it won't start
you re not alone😁 why cant the 12v just get some juice from the main battery🤔
