2022 Harley-Davidson Sportster S Review, Road Test and Launch Report

  • After tackling the 2022 Harley-Davidson Sportster S at the Aussie launch, Jeff spent a bit more time getting to know the sports cruiser earlier this year... Here is our review video, filmed in Sydney, right by the Harbour.
    The Sportster S proved to be everything that Harley promised us in the lead up to the Aussie press launch last year, where we raced around a purpose made track and cruised the city. But to really put it to the test, we needed to live with it for a few weeks as a daily ride.
    I had a lot of good things to say about the Sportster S in my Australian Launch Report. The Revolution Max 1250T engine truly wowed me. I mean, this thing wheelstands under power. Enough said. But there were a few questions I left the event with, such as, “Will the rear suspension cope on bumpy roads?” and “How well will the brakes perform in normal everyday riding scenarios?”… “How comfy will the bike be over a full day of riding?”… “Will the exhaust cook my right leg in traffic?”… These things, and a few more, sat in the back of my mind until I took the S back for a few weeks and used it as my daily rider and weekend blaster…

    Stellar video and editing!
    I ordered my Sportster S this past Spring and it finally arrived last week and boy am I having a great time! They’ll mention the suspension... I don’t care . The smallish gas tank... I don’t care. True, rain will get get you wet .. ha ! I don’t care. What I do care about is how much fun this bike is . It is addictive, fun to ride and incredibly fast!

    I added the full "Wild One" package, as well the Sundowner saddle, wind-screen, heated grips, rain guard and tail bag. I still love my antique, but the Sportster S is my "go-to" bike. Its fabulous!

    Leave to Harley man. They just couldn’t come in with regular, conventional, 17” road wheels like 90% of street bikes. Not Harley! 16” super fat, big, overemphasized and bold. Fits the overall theme of the bike though, and the Harley way.

    26k for a bike with no suspension, silly front wheel & single brake rotor, ridiculous small tank and confused styling, maybe if it was 15k you'd except these major short falls but HD are having a laugh...

    I guess you never rode a XR1200 then, which easily gets the front up in first and second if you aren't careful (I know i own one) plus it sounds like a Harley. The new revo motors are the absolute worst soundin engine i have ever had the misfortune to hear on a bike , my lawnmower sounds better. I have heard every aftermarket system available and that just makes it sound horrible and louder. These new ones may be a bit faster then my older XR, but mines a Harley, these new ones are some sort of metric wannabe. Its a damn good bike but they missed the mark yet again.

    • @fs3994
      @fs3994 Před 9 měsíci

      You mean a lot faster than your old XR. Actually it does everything better, to include cruise control. The old XR wasn't a good seller for a reason.

    • @billwilliamson9842
      @billwilliamson9842 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@fs3994 you mean all that new tech that has been nothin but headaches for most rev max sporty owners? I'm fine without all the gee whiz stuff and I prefer my torque down low and would LOVE to catch a new sportster s from light to light. These rev max bikes are gonna be another street failure. The XR's weren't big sellers because they stopped, handled, had plenty of power and were reliable, so they didn't appeal to the typical Harley guy. Great bike ahead of its time. sorry your rev max bike sounds like a lawn mower with a bad exhaust leak lol

    • @fs3994
      @fs3994 Před 9 měsíci

      @@billwilliamson9842 lve owned both. And the XR is like farm equipment compared to the new sportster. Which does the 1/4 at least a second faster. I hope you catch one at a light also. I'm done with you.

    my first harley, only had jap sport bikes before. my only complaint is i hate the forward controls so much that i did not ride the bike until i made rearsets and jacked up the rear by 2 inches. love it now, almost feels like a sport bike. I think harley put forwards so they can sell the mid control option which is ridiculously expensive. $1194.00 for parts only. maybe another $300 to fit ?
