Where is the link to the splint?
@@lctaylor65 the description
10 minutes later or 10 months?
@cosmic_snot ten minutes for sure. But that's the case with the problem that was in the early stages...and not chronic
Thank you so much doctor Adam Story I love the way you explain very clear explanation and very helpful God Bless more
Thanks Dr. Adam for ur advices really that will help the patients....
The stretches are great, thanks! While washing dishes in warm water, I found that if I squeeze the warm/hot water out of the dish cloth, holding the cloth with both hands and turning my hands in opposite directions to get the water out and hold for at least 10 to 20 seconds makes me feel so much better. I now carry a small hand towel. Perhaps I will do only your stretches. I cannot believe how great it feels after doing yours... look, I am typing lots of words! :) I'm not sure if I'm creating a future problem by doing the towel stretch. Can you comment please?
I'm so lost for words right now. I've had problems a few times with the trigger finger. One time I had the ball on my palm and couldn't straighten my finger it hurt so much. My diet was the American diet.
I gained 35lbs so I decided to change my lifestyle. On a carnivore/keto diet. Eliminating all sugar and bad carbs eating about 20 to 30 carbs a day. But making healthier choices. At times I would eat one treat sugary carb but nothing drastic.
I'm telling you last night I decided because I'm doing so well I thought I would splurge one day. I hate alot of sugary sweets and carbs. I'm paying for it so much this morning. I'm only 40 yrs old. I lift weight daily. Not today. Both of my knees are inflamed walking up the stairs hurts and my trigger finger painful can straighten it. I can feel all the water retention in both legs. It's crazy how bad food like bad carbs and sugary sweets flared all this and become weak and miserable. I tell ya I won't be eating bad like this, this much again. This is insane. Makes me question all these people suffering with arthritis etc if yiu change your food the pain will go away.
Like I said when I started carnivore/keto my pain amd inflammation went away. I thought I would share to help someone. Am truly in shock right now. This isn't the first time, I did this eating bad about a month ago and I was paying for it. So I know now for sure it's the food. God bless
Thanks Godskingdom for your story on great advice!❤
Thank you!🌿 Very kind to offer help like this.
You are so welcome!
Thank u SOO much… I am a crocheter…& had it in my right hand middle finger … got cortisone shots… it went away 👏🏽… But now my left hand middle finger has it worse…Will try to schedule a shot for this hand… but I tried that stretch..😳😳😳It helped 😍& I didn’t do it for two min… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽Gonna do it longer
The greatest advice for trigger finger problems. Thank you!
Thank you very much for the advice. I appreciate it.
Thank you Dr for the tips. Quick question - How many times in a day I should be doing this 2 minute exercise ?
Thanks doctor, your advice is by far the best..... Especially stretching for 2 minutes straight, other would only say for 30-45 seconds....
Thank you for the wonderful advice Dr, just a question on the stretch how often in a day does this need to get done? Many Thanks
I've had a rough journey with my hands. I had trigger finger surgery and, you're right, it can come right back even if actively going to physical therapy for heat, massage, scar tissue take-down, etc. I do highly recommend overnight splinting. For me, that puts my fingers to rest in a more meaningful way. The inflammation and swelling that tends to occur during the day will go down overnight with adequate rest. It doesn't cure the problem, but it makes my daytime hours far better. I start the morning with no issues and by bedtime I'm starting to feel the problem. I just feel like splinting calms it enough so that it doesn't advance to worse issues. I have a little finger impacted by wrist surgery and then trigger finger surgery on my ring finger, and that little finger now is in a permanent bend that even the therapist could not resolve. I do the "praying hands" maneuver to keep the tendons stretched and the problems from worsening. I start with hands together overhead and slowing bring them down to my chest in a praying hands position. It's the easiest way for me to give my fingers a good stretch. Its also easier for me to hold that stretch position for a couple of minutes.
😮
Thanks 👍
Excellent information which helped me deal with my trigger finger problem.
Glad it helped
I've had 4 trigger fingers repaired surgically with excellent long-term results, as in decades. Currently dealing with trigger onset in left pointer finger and will try your recommendations, hopefully avoiding yet another surgery. I found right pointer trigger release took a much longer time to heal than other fingers. Trigger issues run in my family (mom's side) as well as Dupuytrens Contracture. Luckily I only have Dupuytrens Disease; my older brother and a male cousin have early onset Contracture, a horrible affliction although recently treatments seem to have improved. Thx for your video.
Unfortunately, I have you beat. I have had 7 fingers surgically repaired (which totally fixed the problems). Now one of the remaining 3 fingers (actually my left thumb) has it! I also have Dupuytrens, a large cyst lump on my left palm. SMH
@@DoubleD453 Can you guys tell me if there's anything special you did after the surgery? I'm 29 yrs old and within 2.5 yrs of playing tennis during covid, I gained 4 trigger fingers.... I already had surgeries on 2 of them but they didn't completely go back to normal (slight triggering or pain)
@@KimchiOishi1I didn't have to do anything after the surgeries. It totally fixed the problem, and if done properly, it should never reoccur

I had 2 finger surgeries on my right hand and 2 fingers on my left hand...with great success.
I weight train and the gripping weight did it...but after th surgery...5 years now...no problems...😊
Hi Camille, 4 weeks ago I had a surgery on my right anular finger and I can’t bend my finger yet, last year I had surgery on my left thumb and it’s well now , How long does it take for your fingers to recover? Thank you 🤍
Ditto .. had it in my right hand 5 years ago, worked fine. Going for my left hand in a couple of months. Other than the surgery, everything else is either temporary or ineffective.
The stretch is great
I've had a snapping ring finger in my right hand for most of my adult life. I've done hand massages and stretching, but found using a massage gun on my palm the most effective. My ring finger is no longer catching and the palm of my hand no longer constantly hurts.. I started with using the massage gun morning and night and once the tendons loosened up I eased off to once a day to using it once or twice weekly. It feels wonderful to have a totally relaxed hand after so many years of tension and pain in my palm.
Dude would you like to share a link about your massage gun please? any special name or brand?
@@arifkuyucu MY massage gun doesn't have a brand name on it. I got it a few years ago for about $60 from Walmart. It came with 4 different head attachments; a round ball (the one I use on my hand), a single pronged head, a two pronged head, and a flat head. It has several vibrating (pounding) speeds. I normally use the slowest and next speed up.
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this very informative video.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you I recently noticed my middle finger sticking and it would snap and unlock when I would extend my finger. Google search said it was trigger finger so a CZcams search brought me to this video. I really appreciate you taking the time to put this information out there. I ordered the splint and have started doing the stretching exercises.
How many times throughout the day should I do this exercise and is there a limit to how many times I should do it per day?
Everyone is different, I’d go based upon what feels right
What do you charge for a short zoom call .I damaged my finger February last year .my finger won't fully straighten. It feel like it will snap the joint when I try stretch .
@@AdamJStoryDC i had the finger trigger when I tried playing the guitar excessively all the time I started feeling the pain in the morning when i woke up i automatically stopped playing from the 10 april 2022 I started doing stretching exercises and massage now my finger no longer blocks and the clicks in the finger i no longer hear them but my finger is a little numb and sometimes the tendon is a little inflamed if I touch it and loss of sensitivity on my ring finger just a little bit now my finger does not lock but the tendon is slightly inflamed can cortisone injections help me heal my ring finger

I had three fingers with problem on both hands so six total. I used popsicle sticks at night. But most of my success in fixing the issue is cutting out as much sugar as possible. So I went from considering surgery as the doctor suggested to no surgery and also most five years trigger finger and pain free!

Hey Dr Story! I was going to make an appt to come see you about my thumb, and then you posted this perfect video explaining my problem. Great timing! I ordered the splint, and I'll start heating and stretching. What do you think about ibuprofen for the inflammation?
It might help but the splint will help more. Graston and laser help as well. BTW, I planned this because the universe told me about your thumb (Ha Ha).
@@AdamJStoryDC That's exactly what I thought when I saw the video :) Splint is arriving today. What about electric stimulation? I have a small unit that I use on my back.
@@kristiesimpson9925 you can try it. It won’t hurt. I never use ES in the office for this condition because I haven’t found it to be much benefit IMHO... I usually just get aggressive with the Graston

I don't understand, why is it helpful to stretch and also to immobilize with a brace? Those two things seem to be inverse of each other.
I've had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists and dequervains on one wrist. Just had an injection for trigger thumb and I'm hoping to avoid another surgery. I work with my hands and I'm an active wheelchair user so the surgeries really interfere with EVERYTHING I do.
Thanks!
@@jerseyshoredroneservices225 immobilize so inflammation goes back - stretching so that gliding of tendons can improve due to more flexibility and relaxation of whole system
Great post! when you say 'too long', do you define that in time or experience? What I mean by this is I've dealt with this for years in both hands assuming it was just my service career [Airframe repair tech]; pneumatic rivet guns and metal bucking bars play havoc on hands. While they haven't permanently locked, I do have to release them using the opposite hand.
too long - years
Tks
thanks
You're welcome!
Tnx doc for all info. 12 days back have had pointer finger surgery. Had tried all steps, massage, exercises, steroid shot. Nothing worked. Compelled to go for surgery. Problem still same. Plz advise. I live in Mauritius.

Got my hand on a hot rice pack right now. I use a bandaid for a splint 24/7. Comfortable and I can do everything except make a fist, so no pain or snapping. Going to try that two min stretch. The cortisone shot did nothing for me 6mos ago. I am going to use the handles of my scissors to work the scar tissue. Thanks for everything
Are you able to make a fist now?
Hi Adam where can find information of the vingerbrace?
Holy crap that stretch did wonders for me

Does this apply to Stroke patients also?

That exercise really reminds me of the method I used to relieve my plants fasciitis.
Excellent. Dr. i live in India. what is the cause of a trigger finger
Also from India. Google metabolic syndrome trigger finger.
I've been splinting since a few days after my middle finger started triggering, but that 2 minute stretch did wonders for smoothing things out. I've also been using heat and massage to help, but that stretch is really helpful. How long would you recommend performing these stretches? Until the symptoms ease for multiple days in a row or just...indefinitely? 😅
Is it safe to keep doing that stretch each day , def made a difference . Maybe nice perfect but sure is better thanks .
Thank you doc ! I have been having this problem for the past five months and not yet treated. I will start with worm water putting my hand in. And let's see what happens ..God bless you
Thanks for this - thought I had arthritis. Will try the exercises.
Best of luck!
@@AdamJStoryDC Dr i need your advise I had the trigger finger because I played guitar successively without rest and one morning my finger started to lock up I automatically stopped playing the guitar after I consulted a doctor and he told me that for the moment he is going to prescribe me naproxen anti inflammatory pills and if that does not reduce the inflammation i have to go back to see him so that he injects me with cortisone But I haven't had the cortisone injection yet. and now 1 year has passed i have found that with the stretching and the exercises and rest the nodule in the tendon of my ring finger has reduced in volume but at 80 percent but now sometimes my 5 fingers become paralyzed in the morning and loses sensitivity when I try to open them in the morning when I wake up what suggest to do in this case . Thanks
I just had trigger finger release surgery for the clicking issue I had with my pinky finger. I play guitar, and it is my fretting hand that is the issue. What do you recommend post-surgery to have a full recovery with full range of motion for my pinky?
How many times daily should we do this doc?
It was rheumatoid arthritis and I've had multiple replacement a lot of surgeries over 20 or so
Had a Tn😮ger finger severed lightly Knuckle, pin Surgery, have been lazy for rehab.Hurts to bend past knuckle, right handed as well!!
I decided to give this a try because what else do i have to do since getting an appointment with a GP is such a metric pain in the ass, it burned like high hell, but after the 2 minutes, it did give me quite a bit of relief, i'll likely reply to myself here tomorrow to say if the relief continued
Sir can I use hand gripper for trigger thumb?
Do you have specialist on San Francisco
I got it in both thumbs. Started with a small pain around the pulleys for a couple of weeks. Then the locking bent overnight. Got splits. I find eating a decent beef steak makes it a lot worse. So I’ve cut that down. And gone vegetarian in the evenings. And waking up felling better.
Sometimes the reason for the buildup of the scar tissue is due to a uric acid. Uric acid buildup can be caused by certain prescription drugs, like clopidogrel (Plavix), which has a similar impact on the joints to gout. To eliminate the buildup of uric acid, some supplements can be taken, like malic acid, or tart cherry juice.
Thank you.

Can trigger finger be inherited? Once in a while my middle finger on right hand just kinda locks up and it hurts to straighten it. my mom had trigger finger and got surgery for it (which failed. she has yet to go back and get it addressed). I had asked her doctor if it can be inherited and he didnt think so? yet I seem to be getting same problem as her. we are of scottish decent so I wondered if it could actually be dupuytrens, which is inherited (often in scottish families), but he ruled it out for my mom.
Not really. It’s like injuries. Injuries and Disabilities are not same.
I have trigger finger pain in my palm on my pinky finger, so far the stretching and heat seem to be working. I golf and practice my swing as much as I can, so it seems to have caught up to me over the last four years. Edit, after a few days of stretching, heat and wearing a splint at night, my trigger pain mostly went away. I also just used a piece of smooth plastic to break up the scar tissue. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing

If it common to develop trying finger after wearing a splint for a month?
My middle finger tends to snap when I tried to bend and straighten at the PIP joint when I'm just getting up each day. It goes away by the time I've showered. That's not even the finger I broke. It has to be splinted to support my ring and pinky fingers that did break.
What do you think?
Sometimes
for me it seem to developed recently. its in both hands but only bad in the morning. after about an hour it is back to good till the next morning. will try the suggestions
Hey....don't delay starting dealing with it. Bcoz I ignored the morning stiffness for about a month and look what I got
My thumb is like iron tough. It has lost its bend on the first knuckle. If bends accidentally, I yell 😢
No massage, exercise, stretching, hot cold bath, vitamins, splints have worked so far 😢

How late is too late? I have mine for over a month now. Will the methods in your video still work for me?
My right middle finger was deformed last oct.4. I went right away to the doctor but he just prescribed me paracetamol and cream. Never worked at all.

What do I do to return into original form my finger?
