    You have done exceptionally well with what you have achieved in only one year!! Your colour work is gorgeous. When you have mastered the fitting there will be no stopping you. Well done for not being put off or too disappointed when is hasn’t worked out first time, I’ve just subscribed and will be following to see what you make next. Onwards and upwards. I am 56 and have knitted for years, and always knitted flat, I’ve just made my first top down sweater, (the Ranunculus) and I love it, shame it’s taken me this long to try it . Never mind, ❤️x

    Excellent job on your first year of Knitting! I did the same thing. I jumped in with both feet and knit a ton of things that were too small or too big or the wrong yarn or something. It’s just part of learning. Don’t give up!

    You've knit so much in just a year. Mistakes are great learning opportunities. I too love the Fabel patterns and have made a few but what I have learned is that most designers make patters to suit their body types, which is fine. It just means that we often need to make adjustments to suit our own bodies. I found most of the Fabel patterns too short as well and a few other little things but making the same pattern a few times helps to get it right. Swatching is also your friend. It can be annoying but helps you learn so much before you get too into your knitting.
    I enjoyed watching your peaceful and real podcast.

    Hello Frøydis! Your channel just appeared on my feed and I went tou your first video, wow, I am impressed with your first year of knitting! I do think that gauge and fitting are not that straightforward to always get right, it's challenging and a learning curve, at least for me it is always THE issue, especially because I tend to use different yarns than the ones recommended on patterns, different gauges, and I don't always like the ease that is in the pattern 😊 that means a lot of math and tweaking and winging it and frogging again and again! Also I do see that even when I am meticulous with my gauge swatches they are not always "true" so that is tricky! I love your choice of patterns, colours and yarns, Really love Fabel knitwear, Helene's patterns are so nice and I agree I also would like to knit most of them, but have not started yet! Really love the diagon alley jumper in that same color, so pretty. The stonewood is beatiful! Did not try my hand at colorwork yet because I still did not find the right design but that looks gorgeous! Happy wishes from Italy. Barbara 💚🧶🌺🌸

      @disircraft  Před rokem +1

      Really appreciate hearing how you go about things! 😊 It's very relatable. You certainly learn a lot when tweaking! I hope you find the ideal colorwork to start with! The Stonewood is great because you get a lot of progress really fast, and the pattern doesn't have very long floats to wrangle. 😅

    @lifelearner47 Před rokem +4

    I totally love all your knitting and amazed and a little jealous of the quantity & quality. Your cat is a real sweetheart too.
    So my first year was a very steep learning curve too. Then I thought I'd wise up, so here are things I learnt in 2022 (my second year): write down all my measurements in my knitting note book, including arm length (I too had a problem with short sleeves long arms!). Check work frequently against these measurements. Laying work along the rounded arms of the sofa meant I got a more accurate measurement. Learnt the Portuguese method of knitting, now not only are purl rows the same as knit rows, but I knit a lot faster. Make gauge swatches a good size to show my real knitting gauge. Wet & dry flat the swatch to see what happens to size when washed (I did a merino jumper without checking this and I could wear it a a huge long dress). After frogging, soak wool in warm water & hang skein up to dry with a light weight in the bottom to stop the strands curling (I used a small torch I have). Lastly, soak & dry flat to shape, all the finished knitted pieces before sewing together (it's called blocking). I hope some of my little solutions may also help you in your second year. Good Luck

    • @disircraft
      @disircraft  Před rokem

      Wow, what a great list! I definitely need to make that list of measurement for my knitting notebook. Using a rounded sofa arm would never have occured to me. The swatching..! Yes, big swatches are way more useful. I've been taking shortcuts there! I should also treat my frogged yarn better before knitting it up again. Now I gotta go look up Portugese knitting! :-)

    To lengthen arms without frogging, cut the cuff off ,the arms wont unravel :) pick up and knitn new stitches from where seems sensible. It leaves a line so begin the ribbing and you wont see it at all. That said, with that yarn being variagated, iyou might not see a line and so it might be ok to knit some stockinette before ribbing.

    • @disircraft

    I just watched your first video this morning. I started knitting 45 years ago - self taught from a book. I love your style and especially enjoyed your sense of humour. I still knit passionately and am happy to report that progress has been made🥲. This year I set myself goals for new skills to be mastered and amongst the challenges find great joy in progress even after all these years- and too many disasters to count! Keep knitting and please keep sharing. You are destined to be a very competent knitter.

    The pixie hat looks really good on you. Could you adjust the drops cowl and make it into a skirt? Or felt. It and turn it into a bag, add some colour / embroidery.

    Du tilpasser til din kropp og dine preferanser, og klarer å fikse ting som ikke ble som du ville. Da kan du lage hva som helst!
    Og ikke minst; du har allerede lært at det uttales "geidsj". Jeg hadde strikket i over 20 år før jeg lærte at det ikke er "gåsj". Lol.

    Im curious about the novice sweater. Did you think it was true to size? What size did you choose?

    • @disircraft
      @disircraft  Před rokem

      I went with the XS, which gives me about 5-6 cm of positive ease. I could have chosen the S, but I didn't want quite that much ease. I don't know how to judge if something is true to size or not, but I think so! The measurements given in the pattern are accurate as far as I can tell. I decide on size by the measurements of the actual garment as well as the recommended size based on body measurements. 🙂

    You really have knitted alot of beautiful items. Why are you using the washing machine after you put your time into knitting? Are you blocking them?

    • @disircraft
      @disircraft  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! There's really no problem using a washing machine on non-superwash wool, provided it has a decent wool cycle (which is not necessarily the same as a delicate cycle). :-)
      I like to wash my knits because by the time I'm done with them, they are full of cat hair, dust and sunscreen. Many types of wool can also benefit from a wash! It makes them softer and fluff up. Generally speaking, if it's an everyday object that I can't wash in the machine, I probably don't want it anyway. :')

  • @parkinharborhills3066

    Better lighting would be nice
